THE EXCURSION. Part 8.
We were all guarded with men handing a heavy firearms.
" you people are lucky to still be alive on this road, there are cases of kidnapping and robbery on this road, you people are really lucky. " one of them said has he held his firearm and looking around cautiously.
We sat on the floor while we were surrounded and each of them faced different places for unforseen attack.
Few minutes later, the van arrived and we were ushered in, we were transported into the barracks.
While in the van, I wept.
I felt the thin line between life and death and difference between grace and trying.
I felt emotional and wept. Tears dropped profusely.
" what if....? "
Anything can happed after that uncompleted statement.
We got into the barracks and it felt like the safest place on earth. Firearms hanged everywhere, the security lights illuminated the whole place that one could pick a grain of garri if dropped coolval stories.
We alighted from the van and the love we felt was out of this world. Lovely people with beautiful hearts.
They came for us and offered us water as we alighted from the bus, the ladies were ushered to the female section while we were ushered to the other side.
They led us to the bathroom to wash off and gave us food.
"Don't worry about your ladies, they are being taken care of, you know you can't go to their hostels now right?" The leader of the platoon explained.
"Please, what about the driver, how is he, is he alive?" We asked.
"Oh sorry I forgot, he was moved into the ICU immediately we brought him in and the doctor told is he is currently on oxygen, there are chances that he would make it" he explained and left.
I flung my clothes and went straight into the bathroom, it was a warm shower. I spent minutes under the shower and I couldn't stop crying. At this point, I didn't know why I was so emotional but I was sure I cried because I just survived what many would not.
We were ushered into the hostel where we have two step bunk, each of us on a bunk. I didn't spend 5 minute before I slept off.
I thought I'll have a sound sleep but I ended up hallucinating, everything replayed in my dream and I became restless.
I had anxiety attack and bad dreams loomed me.
Suddenly, someone grabbed me, pulled me away from the bed and held me close to herself, it was a female figure.
A female soldier, young and probably in her late 20s.
" hey! Hey!! Hey!!! I got you, I got you" I opened my eyes and found myself in her arms as she seated on the floor, patting me like a baby"
I opened my eyes and started crying again.
Then I knew what it looked like when someone is traumatized.
Virtually all us hallucinated because of our tragic experience.
It was a serious night that woke the whole barrack to our rescue.
