Yande sighed hard, he didn't like this job but it was the only thing between him and being kicked out of his apartment. He needed it if he was to keep going.
He entered the hospital ward and the stench that hit him first made him step back a little.
'If you are going to work with me, you have to get used to this.' Mwewa said seeing how Yande had walked out
Yande felt bad, he walked into the room and saw how he was fighting to breathe. He had a bandage on his head and the rest of his body was covered with a bedsheet. He noticed the relief bucket that was under the bed, he couldn't walk to the bathroom and two tubes were in there connected from his body. One for pee and the other for faeces.
'I am sorry.' Yande apologized
'Its fine.' Mwewa told him with a weak smile
A chair had been put for Yande in one corner with a face fan, obviously because of the scent which they didn't want him to smell. Also a bucket had been put. In another situation they would have treated Mwewa better but until then he would have to conform to this.
'In case you want to puke.' Mwewa told him seeing how he looked at the bucket
He sighed and carried it outside then switched off the fan
'You know you need it.'
'If you dont have one so I won't too.'
'I am barely living.' Mwewa said before chuckling lightly
Yande didn't smile, at the back of his head he wanted to see how Mwewa and Ellie had ended up together. What exactly was the one thing that pulled them close, already he could tell that he was on the social side whilst she wasn't much a people person.
'You obviously know why I am here, we can begin.'
He smiled
'A man that loves to get straight to the point.'
Yande hinted that both Ellie and Mwewa loved to play mind games with people, then he remembered that Ellie had told him Mwewa was the intelligent one.
'Where do you want us to start from?' Mwewa asked
'Anywhere you are comfortable with Mr. Musonda.'
He closed his eyes as if to remember something.
'Ellie was the love of my life, the only woman I ever wanted to spend my life with.'
'What changed?'
'Nothing I guess.' He said with a shrug
Yande looked at him intently
'If nothing changed then why are we here?'
He sighed.
'Maybe let's start from the time Ellen was two, the night you went home late for the first time in years.'
'She told you?' He asked with a chuckle
'Whatever I talk about with Ms. Chisenga is confidential.'
'Ms. Chisenga?'
'She prefers to be called that.' Yande responded
Mwewa smiled sadly
'Then I should tell you about it.' He said eyes closed

Being managing Director for Atlas Mara bank came with its advantages but one of the few disadvantages I hated was that I had to be at the opening ceremony for any event. I mean isn't that the reason we put people on the ground to make sure that all that was dealt with?
There was a golf tournament at Lusaka golf club and we were one of the major sponsors, I had to show up. I had to be there.
Another thing I hated about leaving the office is that I wasted a lot of time in the field when I could be in the office working and doing more valuable things.
I started off for the opening after making sure that I had sent all the important emails to my bosses all over Africa since I was managing director here in Zambia and also Acting Secretary for Southern Africa, I was working towards changing positions and getting a promotion; I needed it not just for me but I wanted my daughter and wife to get the best life possible.
I talked to my wife just before getting on the road and drove there, in less than an hour I was standing at the stand that had been set up.
I looked and felt good, my wife paid extra attention to our looks and we sure looked good together. I was wearing chino pants and a white work golf t shirt and a cap, I knew the ladies were staring at me; they always did. But I only had eyes for her.
'Good morning Sir.' One of the interns greeted
We had sent them out here to see what they could bring to the table, plus being young in the industry we knew they were eager to learn and hungry to make a statement. That's the kind of energy we needed, that's the kind of morale we fed on. 'Use them whilst they are still fresh' was one of the common sayings amongst the big fish. Even though I hated it, it worked to some extent.
The rest of the day I spent it watching how they attended to the clients and how well they were selling the business, when I was sure they were on track I decided to move around to the other stands to see what was happening.
I recognized most companies until something caught my attention, Trade kings was one of the sponsors too and they had put up a game of scrabble for people to play.
I could see that no one was playing, I used to play a lot back in high school and so decided to give it a shot.
'Do I get myself some stay soft when I win?' I asked one of the ladies I found jokingly
She smiled at me.
'If you win two games yes.' She said still smiling
'Who am I playing against?'
'Me.' She responded
I noticed the other girl wasn't paying attention to me at all, she was busy minding her own business until another man came to the stand and she went to attend to him.
Her voice was beautiful, she had this captivating smile. And when she started explaining to the man I could tell that she knew what she was talking about and it was impressive, her bosses must have been satisfied knowing they sent someone who was well vested.
We played the games and I lost both but I didn't care because I was doing it for the fun of it. When we were done, the lady I was playing with excused herself and it was just us two.
'Am Mwewa.' I said to her
She looked at me smiling with her eyes.
'Abigail.' She said
'So tell me more about Trade kings.' I said, not that I was interested but I was just trying to buy more time with her.
She smiled before she opened her mouth to offload everything she knew about it, I also got to learn things that I didn't and when she was done I thanked her and told her I would pass through later this time to play against her.
I dont know why but when it was time to leave that day I went and offered her a lift, surprisingly she accepted. Well not that I expected her to refuse but I drove her all the way to Chalala where she was staying.
'Thank you so much for the lift Mr. Musonda.' She said
'I will see you tomorrow Abigail.' I responded and she smiled at me before walking away

'Did you go straight home that day?' Yande asked
'I did, I had no idea what I had done taking her home but we talked like I had known her all my life.'
'And your wife, did she know where you had been that night?'
He breathed heavily before shaking his head.
'This is enough for today.' Yande said switching off his recorder and walking out.
