I stood there praying that there'd be no fight. "You know what. I'm more of a man than you'll ever be. I won't hit you. But I'll make sure you pay for it". With that, Samuel left. Nelson chuckled before he turned to me. "So you had the guts to bring your lover to my own house and threaten me?" "He's not my lover and I've never cheated on you. He's Alex's father." I explained to him and saw his eyes widened upon hearing the shocking news. I understood him. We all thought Samuel was dead at some point. But that didn't justify his actions.
I scrutinized his face to see if he'd apologize but he just nodded and went inside.
Night came and I got ready for bed. As the sleep was about to take over, I felt Nelson touching me. I was so tired. I didn't want any of this. "Nelson please, not today." I said out of annoyance. Besides, I was still feeling pains all over my body from the time he beat me up. "You're tired so what do you expect me to do? Sleep like that?" "But what's wrong if you do so". Why does he want to pester me? He got up and put on some clothes before he left the room. I was too tired to ask him where he was going.
I immediately slept off when he left. The next day, he was nowhere to be found but I wasn't worried. After all, that was not the first time I woke up to his absence. As I was preparing breakfast, Samuel called me and told me something that almost made me puke. "Last night, Nelson came to our hotel with a prostitute". Apparently, Samuel was a manager at a certain hotel. I was completely speechless. "Hello..?" Samuel said as he didn't hear anything from me. But what if it wasn't Nelson. I can't believe everything someone says about my husband. But Samuel isn't just someone. I know him to be an honest man. Maybe it was just his look alike. Nelson respects himself too much to do that. After work, I passed by Gina's house. I told her everything about Nelson and his supposed prostitute.
"Eiii, that is what he does now? Sleeping with prostitutes. Ohhhh.. My friend, if it's true, you're in danger. He'll infect you with diseases." Gina was right. If it's true, he'll infect me. But then I suddenly realized that for months, I had been having some itches *and abnormal v discharges and I got scared. I didn't want to mention that fact to Gina. I left Gina's house around 8pm. I decided to walk for a while and pick a taxi when I get to the junction. While walking, I spo* tted Nelson. He was walking towards the prostitutes who had lined up by the roadside. My eyes widened in realization. I didn't want to jump into conclusions so I watched closely. He looked at all the prostitutes one by one, checking them out very well and finally picked one after some few minutes.
He smacked the prostitutes butt and entered the Uber that seemed to be waiting for them all this while. My knees felt week after what happened right in front of me. I was absolutely sure that it wasn't his first time. That imbecile!! My chest was heavy with tears but I couldn't cry. I picked a taxi and gave my address to the driver to take me home straight. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to walk any distance. I decided to wait for him once I got home although I wasn't sure if he'd even come home today. I ask for money and he tells me he doesn't have any. But he has money for prostitutes and hotels. God! Gina was right. He takes me for a fool.
After waiting for several hours, he finally came. "I didn't know you were that cheap. A whole Nelson going in for prostitutes? You're such a shameless man with no class!!" I stopped to catch my breath. Hearing "prostitute", he knew exactly what I was talking about. "Don't insult me Cynthia. Don't or I'll" "or you'll what? Beat me again? You had the guts to lay a finger on me for being unfaithful when you were the one going after prostitutes like a dirty dog and.." pahh! He hit my head with the wooden center table and I fell down. I couldn't keep my eyes open. "Cynthia? Are you okay?" was the last thing I heard before I fell into complete darkness
