Kamsi lay on Ifeanyi's lap under the Ukwa Tree close to Ifeanyi's mother's farm. This was the only time and place they had for each other.. Ifeanyi had earlier passed a message to Kamsi through her younger brother Udoka to come and meet him at that time.
"I feel so complete with you around me"Kamsi whispered playing with her hands shyly as she lay on his laps.
"Uto'm (my sweetness), anytime I see your face like this eh! My heart will just be knacking band godu..nya eh, I love you too much"Ifeanyi said gesticulating funnily.
Kamsi laughed loudly
"The way you talk eh.."She said admist laughter..
"Ain't you going to start harvesting the vegetables for mama before the sun comes out?"She asked
"eh, that can wait.. Am with you now and that is just what I want"Ifeanyi said
"Ify, don't you think mama would be worried? Why don't we just harvest the vegetables for her together? "she stood up from her lying position.
"Let's stay for a while.."
"Shhhh.. I insist, get up lazy mmadu!!"She laughed dragging him up.
Soon, they were laughing and harvesting the vegetables together until they filled 3 big baskets..
Ifeanyi carried 2 baskets while Kamsi carried the other one.
They were gisting and playing along the road as they were going to Ifeanyi's house.
"Mama oo"Ifeanyi called as they got to the front of their old house which was already cracking at every corner. The old rusty zinc was leaking every rainy season.
Ifeoma, Ifeanyi's twin sister came out.
"Welcome.."She greeted as she collected the basket of Vegetables from Kamsi.
Ifeanyi sat down on the old wooden bench outside using his clothes to clean his sweaty face.
"Where is mama?"He asked
"oh! She is at the backyard roasting yam for Lunch"Ifeoma replied as she took the baskets and headed to the backyard where their kitchen was built.
"I need to get going Ify, we will see some other time"Kamsi said standing up. Ifeanyi stood up and held her hands.
"Uto'm I miss you already.. When will we meet again?"Ifeanyi said with a dull face.
"I'll communicate it with you through Udoka OK? I have to leave before your mother comes out.. You know how she is"
Ifeanyi nodded.. "Give me a kiss at least"
"ibiakwa!"Kamsi said laughing and playfully hitting him on the shoulder
"biko nu.. Just small nsusu onu"He said pouting his mouth forward.
"Just small one o"Kamsi said
"ehh.. Obere!"
Kamsi pecked him on the lips quickly
"That was too fast! Nyem ozo! (give me another one)"
"But you said small one nah!"Kamsi whined feigning annoyance
"What is happening here? Ogini na'eme??"Veronica asked coming closer to them.
Kamsi hid behind Ifeanyi in fear.
"You.. Ogbanje! Have I not warned you? Have I not warned you to take this your ukwu sugar(sugar waist) away from my son? Have I not? Or is it until I break these your tiny legs for you before you have sense?"Vero screamed.
"Mama stop it! You should be used to Kamsi by now, I love her.."Ifeanyi said
"shhhhh shut up! Hehehe, see this small boy talking to me about love, ahushie lem anya (I have suffered)"Vero clapped her hands in mockery
"mama am 27 already..am not a kid!"Ifeanyi snapped
"27 okwaya? At 27 what have you achieved? No money, No car, No wife, No children.. All your mates are building houses for their parents, buying cars everywhere but what do you do? You gallivant from one bush to the other with this ocha ka omaka! 27years indeed!!"Vero snapped angrily at them.
Kamsi was already crying behind Ifeanyi.
"Mama can't you just let them be? Haba! Ogini di? Someone cannot rest from your wahala!"Ifeoma who had just come out from inside said.
"Ara gbagbuo gi there! (May madness envelope you)... May ogwugwu twist your womb there! Anuofia! Shameless and insensitive fool.. You have mouth to talk abi? At your age, your mates are married with kids but you seat in your Father's house eating 'mama thank you'...egbe elu gbagbuo gi there(May thunder strike you there)"Vero cursed Ifeoma
"Look mama! You dare not insult me.. You wouldn't even dare because if not for your greed and selfishness, I would have been married with kids by now but you have chased all my suitors away wanting a man with big cars and houses..you are a very wicked woman and I regret coming from your womb!"Ifeoma fired back
"Ifeomachukwu, is it me you're talking to like that?"Vero asked moving menacingly towards Ifeoma who was moving back.
"You will tell me whether Papa was rich when he married you. Look at where we live.. This old and wretched house.. Why didn't you marry a rich man? Wicked woman!"Ifeoma said and ran off..
"eh? I will kill you today.. fool.. anu mpama!"Vero cursed running after Ifeoma.
Ifeanyi and Kamsi watched the drama in awe.
"Uto'm let me see you off biko"Ifeanyi said and led Kamsi out of the compound..

Kenechukwu and Ibeh were seen eating bush meat pepper soup in their small parlour when their father barged in from the front door. They tried to hide it but it was too late. He had seen them already.
"bring it out.. Bring it out osiso!!"Obi their father said pointing at them with his walking stick
They grudgingly brought it out
"I can see both of you have stolen again"Obi said as he carried the pot containing the bush meat pepper soup staring into it intently.
"Noooo"Kenechukwu said
"We didn't steal this one"Ibeh added.
"ehehn! So where did you two get it from?"Obi sat down, still with the pot of pepper soup.
"ermm. We.. "Kene stammered
"We now work as labourers at the new construction site"Ibeh said
"Yes.. Labourers.. Yes"Kene added as they laughed pretentiously
"So the money they paid us is what we used in preparing this"Ibeh said sharply
"Yes Papa.. Exactly!"Kene concurred
"That's good. I'm happy for the both of you. In fact congratulations, kwem na'aka(shake me)"Obi stretched his hand to the boys who fearfully shook him.
They stood there staring at Obi obviously waiting for him to give them back their pot of pepper soup.
"Gini?"Obi asked
"Papa.. Our food"Kene said
"Our gini? Run away from here before I descend on you!"Obi snapped at them and they grudgingly went away murmuring.
Obi kept his walking stick on top of the table and used his hand to pick a piece of meat from the pot and started chewing.
"uhuhuh..this is correct nchi.."He ate hungrily.
He lifted the pot to his mouth and drank out of the pepper soup..
"nna ehh.. There's enough osi na maggi (pepper and maggi)"
He picked another piece of meat.
"Nna eh, this meat is so sweet.. where did these children steal this one from? Otogbuom! (e sweet me die)"
