Chapter 11
Aunty Faith I am not comfortable with this apartment, I Said, you would have to look for a bigger and better place for you, the kids and grandpa, am I am going to reopen for you not just a saloon, but also a beauty home and supermarket all in one. I don’t want my cousins hawking round the streets of Benin. She almost knelt down in appreciation. please aunty stand up, I am glad I can help I replied. Grandpa prayed and blessed me.
I equipped the new apartment with furniture’s, TV sets, a decoder, refrigerator, generator, food stuffs and everything that can make life comfortable for them. I opened a new shop for aunty gave her some money in case of necessity and then gave some money to grandpa. Few days later, I was on my way back to Lagos.
After I had explained everything to mom, dad and my sister, they were really surprised. Life is really unpredictable, the rejected stone has become the chief corner stone, daddy said, I am very glad you forgave them mom added. I am so proud of you, my sister said. All these wouldn’t have been possible without you all standing solidly behind me. We had a group hug, and happiness was in the air that evening.
I took Alex to Benin some weeks later so he could meet my family. Grandpa and aunt faith liked him, they asked him certain important questions about his background and he answered well, grandpa added whenever he wanted to bring his family to Benin, they would be ready to receive them. Alex was overjoyed; he thanked grandpa for his kindness.
In the cool evening I asked grandpa and aunt faith if they had ever heard from my mother? Grandpa told me she came some years back looking for me, and they told her they didn’t know my whereabouts and she left crying. Ever since then, they didn’t set eyes on her, even though some persons said they see her around Lagos looking very unkempt. I was happy she thought about me at all to come looking for me, but also felt sad upon the second report that she was unkempt.
If she is in Lagos, why haven’t I seen her? I said aloud, come on dear Lagos is a big and busy city Alex said, even if you see her, do you think you will be able to recognize her? Grandpa added, well I don’t think so, I replied, I don’t think she would recognize me either. I thought about it for some time and I knew grandpa was right, I had no memory of her, the last time I saw her I was five, that was over twenty years ago, so I decided to let go, but prayed within that God should help me find her and bring her to us, especially before my weeding.
Soon, the wedding bells were ringing, grandpa had told all his kinsmen he needed to tell, and everybody was busy preparing to make sure the day is a success. Aunty faith came to Lagos to help me with the shopping, since my sister was now very due to have her baby.
Haven stayed a week with us in Lagos, Aunty Faith was to leave the next day, the wedding was in two weeks. Myself, mom, dad and Bianca will be going to benin the next week. Dad suggested we visited “Adeola foundation for orphans and widows”. We had visited the foundation two weeks to Bianca’s wedding too, dad believes it’s a way to seek God’s blessings and blessings of the orphans and widows for the marriage.
We bought a lot of food stuffs, bathing soap, toilet roll, snacks, drinks and clothes for those in the foundation. While the management, children and women were appreciating us for the gifts, some women brought a woman in who was looking so weak and hungry. According to them, the woman who should be in her late 40s had fainted on the road, she was revived by well meaning citizens. She was given food and water. After interrogation, they found out she had no place to go and no relative. Everyone felt pity on the her.
