my heart pounded faster as my mum copied{typed out} chinwes number out from adaoras phone and i murmured as she tried to dial the number, which made her to stop for the moment, "what is the problem?" she asked me, while adaora and my sister faced me once again, "mumy i dont think it's a good idea, cos i really do not know why you choose to embarrass me in front of a stranger" i spoke without thinking and out of desperation, while everyone including adaora gasped in shock and the room became tensive and silent like a grave yard, "what do you mean by that comment?" my mum asked me, when she finally found her voice, but by then i had already reasoned out an answer even though i knew it was not plausible, "i dont really buy the idea of inviting my old friend who is like a strange over here without any reason other than this minor issue, it is an embarrassment to me, besides mummy i don't really like it" i replied desperately, while i met adaoras gaze once again and she smiled at me while i cursed her under my breath, "no one is embarrassing anyone here and you should know me better than that" my mum said angrily to me and i looked down in horrow and resignation, supposing it was any other girl, i wouldn't have been alarmed, but a girl like chinwe who had always been urging me to introduce her to my family would really be too glad to speak with my mum, without even knowing that something was amiss and then i equally knew that she will be thrilled and delighted if my mum should invite her and then jump into this trap which adaora had set perfectly well, i also knew that no one will speak ill of her, in her presence, but then the environment will really be too hot and uncomfortable for her, that she might end up embarrassing herself and she will then be made a laughing stock, cos all eyes will really be on her that day, "no i can't really let this happen" i said underneath my breath but then, there was nothing else i could do that moment, cos i saw that my mum was really curious to know the girl called 'chinwe' and adaora had cashed in on my mums curiousity, because her closeness with my mum had made her to realise that my mum is a very curious woman, "silence" she said to us breaking my thoughts, as her phone beeped and she switched it to "handsfree mode"{speaker} while i gasped in shock as we all waited for chinwe to answer her phone call.........
