My mum's phone beeped for a while, as we all waited in silence and anticipation, "hullo" chinwes sweet voice sounded on my mother's phone, breaking the deadly silence inside the room and shocking me in the process as i bit my lips, "hello dear, how are you doing, its val's mother calling" my mum greeted polietly, "wooooow good morning mummy i'm very fine and i'm also very glad in finally getting to speak with you" she answered my mum with a very happy tone, while my mum looked at me and smiled cos only her greeting's had already exposed me, "val and i are here, and he has really told me a whole lot about you" she said to her, "really!" chinwe exclaimed over the phone interrupting my mum momentarily before she continued, "i'm specially inviting you to come and spend the weekend with us, cos i and his sisters, can not wait to see you, so hope you don't have any engagement this weekend??" my mum asked her, "no mummy i don't have any engagement and i am most honoured to be invited specially by you" chinwe answered her over the phone while i sweated like a he goat and adaora continued with her smile, but then i didn't blame her, for she was really having a good time as she watched me shiver in agitation, "i will be expecting you on thursday evening, if you wont mind cos i want you to spend a long weekend with us" my mum told her and she accepted happily, "do take care of yourself and call me with this number on thursday so that i can direct you on how to come" she also said to her before ending the call, and she then gave me a very piercing look, "liar" was the approriate word she used on me that morning, cos it was really obvious to everyone inside the room that morning, that chinwe was more than an old friend to me the way she had answered the phone call, and i stood up in anger and also with the little strength i still had left, "and dont even think of going back to owerri until chinwe has come and gone, besides i know you are really doing nothing in owerri, but you just choosed to stay there in order to run away from your responsibilities at home, i'm sorry for you" she poured out on me before i left her room downcast and wounded, cos my pride has been striped off me and it seemed like judgement day has finally come calling.........
To be continued....
