YouTube has announced a new Membership feature on its platform. This is coming in days after Facebook announced the introduction of Group Member Subscription features.
YouTube "Channel Membership" is a new monetization option available to owners of YouTube channels with huge followers.
YouTube Channel Membership – How it Works
The new YouTube channel membership is where the viewers pay a monthly recurring fee of $4.99 (N1800) to get unique badges, new emoji, Members-only posts in the Community tab, and access to unique custom perks offered by creators, such as exclusive live streams, extra videos, or shout-outs.
According to Google, this has been successful with this new business model.
YouTube Channels Eligible For Membership Features
YouTube says that Channels with over 100,000 subscribers on YouTube will get this new Channel Memberships service to earn more money with their contents because it can be used together with Google Adsense for YouTubers.
YouTube also partners with teespring to offer creators a simple approach to design and sell merchandise. 20 items will be available for customization and U.S.-based channels with more than 10,000 subscribers will be eligible.
Additionally, YouTube is introducing a service called "Premieres" which is a new way for creators to upload content to YouTube. Creators will be able to debut pre-recorded videos as a live moment. A public landing page will be created by YouTube to build anticipation and hype up new content when creators want to release a premier video.
YouTube Premieres will come with Super chat and Channel membership perks.
