This Stupid Thing Called Love

Love.

There are so many things with a bitter aftertaste.

Like some types of dark chocolate

Like guava

Like Love.

Oh people are gonna talk about it

It’s the sweetest thing on earth…love is kind…love is patient…take it from me

Bullshit!

Love is stupid

Been there, done that.

Thirteen years old. My crush on Khalid Saif was crazy.

It was…love

The feeling was mutual…total bliss, I tell you

Then one day he came to school, morose

‘I can’t be with you anymore.

You are Christian

I’m Muslim. I’m sorry’

And then just like that,

I was dumped.

Sixteen years. It was pure love.

I couldn’t live without seeing him

He was crazy about me as well

Then I met his mother

Hatred at First Sight

That was the end of a great love story

Seventeen. Jerome

Sweet Handsome Jerome

Whenever I saw him my heart started thumping

My love was indescribable

He was my first

That night…ha!

I asked him a thousand times

‘Are you sure about this?’

He looked into my beautiful eyes and lied,

As he slid into my tight womanhood over and over again

And after the first, so many other times

One day he just got up and said he was done.

See what I said?

Love is stupid.

Nineteen years. Freddy.

I had my first abortion.

After that he just cut contacts with me.

I was

Heartbroken

I said to myself-

Never again.

No love allowed.

Who was I kidding?!

Twenty years.

Sam.

He was wonderful to me

And to three other girls in his workplace.

We ended with a nasty fight.

Love is stupid.

Twenty-two

I thought I’d changed

Andersen was a great boyfriend.

But he was different from the rest

He was a talker

He told people everything that was going on between us.

Private stuff

By the time we were done, people knew stuff about me even I hadn’t noticed.

Love…ha!

Then I said I’m done.

I met Howard. We had a wonderful relationship.

One night I got drunk, slept with his best friend.

The End.

He broke up with me through a simple text

‘You slut! Its over!’

Along the line I met Danny. He was a good one.

But it turned out he was gay

Nothing I did could please him.

Love is stupid.

I gave up on love.

But then…

Have you met someone

Someone completely different, THE ONE!

Someone if he would propose to you you’d say YES in a flash…!

Then all of a sudden

All communication is lost…not from your side

But his

Suddenly he’s just not that into you

And then you’re forced to pretend you didn’t like him that much

And you’re forced to pick up your heart which has been mangled.

Then he comes back, and you’re thrilled

He proposes, and you set a date

Your heart is in the right place.

You plan a beautiful wedding, all white everything.

And he never shows up

No explanations

Nothing.

Just a note sent through his apologetic mom

‘I’m sorry; I just can’t go through with this’

I’m here

In my bridal dress

Sitting on a bench. Thinking

I won’t go mad, not me

But this heart of mine

It’s turned into stone

I’m not going to do this thing call love again

All men are idiots

And their King dumped me on the aisle.

I’ll be fine

But no one is ever coming close to me

No one

Ever.

You want to judge me?

Do me a favour. Shut up.
