EPISODE 2 "Honey, do you think this idea of bringing in a maid is right?" David asked Angela who was already sad that her husband refused to grant her request. "Yes,i don't see anything wrong with that. let's just bring a maid. "What do we need a maid for?" David asked. He too was not happy. "So i can fully concentrate on my business. The new maid will be doing the cooking and keeping the home clean. please my dear" Angela pleaded. BecauseDavid never wanted to see her sad, he gave her the go ahead. Angela smiled as she sat on the sofa. "Mum, everyone knows to well that i am not more beautiful than you are. I am only but your photocopy and Dad's carbon copy. So the both of you are the real beauty" She gesticulated. Her mother need no soothsayer to tell her that her beloved daughter was living in harmony with david, her husband. Angela had actually visited her parents inorder to tell them about her plan of getting a maid, so her mother could help her look for one. "My daughter.i don't support this" her mother cuts in. The knock on the door an hour later,made Angela come out from the kitchen leaving the rice she was preparing.She knew it was Ebere and the most anticipated maid.When she opened the door,Ebere entered,leaving a beautiful young girl carrying a bag by the door for Angela to have a better view before she came in. "Good Evening ma"She greeted. Angela beheld her.She was indeed beautiful with her open teeth.Fair in complexion. Angela let her in with her bag. "What is your name?"She asked. EPISODE 4 The arrival of Sonia gladdened Angela heart. She was delighted. Sonia on her own part played not only the role of a maid. She felt much comfortable around her madam; she just took Angela as her elder sister. Sonia took charge of the household chores. She took charge of preparing the meals. She even offered to wash the clothes instead of taking them to the dry cleaner. She was in desperate need for money to support her mother's failing health. She was able to finish her secondary school but couldn't go further to higher institutions because of lack of finance. So, since then, she has been looking for money through any possible means inorder to keep living and support her mother who was always sick. :::::..****.:::: David bumped into Sonia as he hurried out of his room with his briefcase. He was getting late for work.She fell down as his body brushed her. "Oh.i am sorry. get up, give me your hand" David reached for her hand to help get her up from the ground. "Good morning sir.I was actually coming to tell you that your breakfast is ready" She announced as she got up from the ground. "I don't think i can still have breakfast. I have to attend an important meeting this morning and i am running out of time. Where is your madam?" David was in a hurry. "She is still sleeping" Sonia replied. She had a way of talking that made her outstanding. Talking slowly and pronouncing every word to the end. David made to Angela's room to notice her of his early leaving because of an important meeting. As David drove,he thought within himself how Sonia handles the house duties as if she was actually a member of the family. She was in good terms with both husband and wife. EPISODE 5 1pm The door bell rang.Sonia was the only one at home. Angela has gone to her shop. David was away in his office. She wondered who might be at the door. "Who is there?"she asked standing close to the door. "It's me o"A voice said from outside. "who?"Sonia asked again. "Soni you can't recognise my voice ni? Sonia smiled and opened the door.She knew it was Bisi, due to the way she asked her the last question. She had told Bisi where she now lives. Bisi her dear friend had no choice than to come and visit her there since she knew Sonia was always home alone when her employers leave for work. "Soni you are enjoying here o. you are really enjoying here" Bisi said. "That's what you think. but you are wrong my dear"Sonia defended herself. "hmmmm,soni,if i were in your shoes,i would be very very happy o"Bisi said as she glanced around the compound. "Why do you say so?"Sonia asked. Bisi smile and held her friend. "You are my friend and i won't hide anything from you. If i were you, i would get close to your madam's husband. you know what i mean" Bisi rolled her eyeballs. "Do you know what you are saying?"Sonia was calm though. "You are very pretty my dear,and that is a great asset.your mother needs money for her drugs and we know too well that you are a young woman who wishes to make money like others. this is your chance"Bisi said as if she knew exactly what she was saying. Sonia was quiet. she was actually thinking about it. "But be careful to avoid your madam's suspicions. She is a woman and will understand every step you take. I have to go before they meet me here"Bisi said and left. Sonia pondered this in her heart.Bisi has been a friend for long.They had suffered together and so share so many things in common,despite the fact that they both hailed from different places. She remembered Ebere who had called her up to take the job as a maid.Ebere had told her that she will have a discussion with her in four days time and nobody should know about it.She wondered what the kind lady might have for her. "Bisi my dear friend.you may be right but i haven't got that kind of heart"she soliloquied as she watched Bisi walk lazily out of the compound

]EPISODE 6 Life had not been fair to Sonia.All her life,she had toiled and worked to raise money.Since she finished secondary school;fees of which she saw to,she worked ardously like a man to support her mom,who had a failing health. Her mother,instead of appreciating the poor girl's efforts,made matters worst by always telling her she's a weakling.Sonia just couldn't figure out why her mother of all people should call her a weakling inasmuch as she involves herself in different types of menial jobs inorder to make both ends meets. It actually happened that she got home one day with bruises all over her body as a result of the countless number of times she fell down,climbing a ladder,carrying a headpan filled with mixed sand,concrete,cement and water. The contractors at first refused allowing her to work due to the fact that she's a women.Women were not allowed to do such work but she begged and pleadd with them to give her a chance;to test her and see how strong she was. After carrying four headpans of the heavy mixture to the second decking through a ladder slanting against a the rough wall,she felt weak,missed a step and fell from the ladder,while the headpan and its contents fell on her. It was then she confirmed that"not everything a man can do that a woman can do better" The contractor had compassion on her and paid her some money so she can go home and buy some drugs. She expected her mother to feel sorry for her,seeing those bruises on her body but instead,the provoking old woman added salt to her injuries by telling her she was too lazy. "mom,please,stop telling me that.it's breaking my heart.its killing my spirit.you know too well that i am trying my best"She sniffed,knowing she was just a step away from crying.She fought the tears that threatened and blinked them back.She was tired of shedding endless tears from the hurting words from her mother. "how many people got bruises on their body there?"the bitter woman asked. Sonia just stared at her without a word.Right from the day she started imagining and thinking with her brain,her mothers attitude towards her had always made her wonder if she was actually her biological mother To be continued

EPISODE 7 "How many people fell from the building?"Her mother asked again Sonia was not surprised at her mother.It was no new kind of question to her.Her mother had always remained a mystery to her. "mum,i was the only woman there.You know its not for women but i had to do it.I had to do it mum;to raise some money inorder to get you more drugs.i just dont know why you are always hostile to me mom"There were tears in her voice this time as she went for a seat,holding her aching leg,sobbing and moaning in pain. "you are too lazy" That was all she heard the woman she called her mother say;with a disdainful hiss. "mom, you know what? Overtime i have always wondered if i actually came out from your womb"Sonia said and stormed out of the house with the pains she felt all over her body,to get some pain killers. __Being a pretty young girl,she was so much admired by young men and even the married ones alike but she never paid them any attention.Paul,one of the young men in her neighbourhood vowed to have his way with her by all means.He had tried everything under his power to earn her friendship but she abruptly turned him down. "baby i don't mean any harm.i just want to be a friend.i wish you can just come over to my house one of these days to see where i live"Paul had one day told her. When Sonia finally visited him,after agreeing to be just a friend,Paul offered her a drink and she took it. The next thing she discovered was that she opened her eyes and found herself on the bed,stack naked.Not even a bra was on her.Blood was all over the bedspread. "noooo.Jesus nooo"she covered her face with her palms and cried out in pains. She opened her eyes again and found Paul at one corner of the room,staring at her.She quickly grabbed the bed spread and covered her nakedness. With eyes full of tears she focused her gaze on him "Paul.paul why.whyyy paul.You betrayed my trust paul.I told you i am a virgin.Do you have to do this?"She couldn't control the tears anymore as they flowed freely from her eyes.

EPISODE 8 Paul came closer to comfort her.Sonia angrily threw the pillow at him. "Don't come near me,She barked,i hate you!" "Sonia,i am sorry.i didnt know you were telling the truth"Paul pleaded.He felt bad though but he was happy he got what he actually wanted.Now he can let her be,while he goes out in search of new chicks. Sonia soon discovered that Paul no longer had interest in her,probably because he got what he had been looking for. Her heart was totally shattered when Paul told her to go her way. "You cant use and dump me"Sonia warned "I just did"Paul told her. __Sonia made up her mind to take revenge on Paul.He must pay for taking her pride away and dumping her. "I still love you paul.After that first time you made love to me,i feel like doing it with you again and again.i need you paul.i need you to make me feel like a woman again"She said as she stormed into his room. Paul's face lit up.He couldnt wait to have a taste of the sweet thing once again.She wore a dress revealing a clear view of her fair,elegant and inviting bossom. He stood up,went close and gave her a warm embrace.Sonia wrapped her lips over his and they drank in the pleasure of blissful kisses.Paul took his time romancing and caressing every part of her as she moaned softly and excited him the more.She knew she had to do this inorder for her plans to be successful because if Paul should by any means find out why she came,he might end up being the one killing her. After a hard kissing and romancing for what seemed like an eternity,paul took her off the ground like a baby and off to the bed he ran without knowing he was just a few minutes away from death. As he lay Sonia on the bed,she drew his head closer and kissed him one more time before throwing him down on the bed and sat atop him,caressing him magically. "oh you are an angel baby.Continue"Paul sang as he closed his eyes in pleasure.Sonia saw this as the perfect opportunity to attack. With one hand,she slid into her left shoe and brought out a very sharp little knife wrapped in a soundless paper. "I am going to give it to you like you never had before.just close your eyes"Sonia said and wrapped her mouth over his,in a gentle kiss inorder to prevent him from saying anything or even opening his eyes. Slowly,she drew the hand with the knife closer while her heartbeat increased tremendously. Without wasting anytime,she stabbed him severally on the chest.She watched him with great panic as he lay down there,motionless,as blood oozed from the severally stabbed spots. She glanced around.Immediately,she fled "Did anybody see me?"that was the question that kept hovering over her. To be continued

EPISODE 9 Sonia had rejoiced when Ebere called her and talked to her about taking up the maid job. She didn't know Ebere too well but all she knew was that Ebere lives somewhere down the neighbourhood.She made Sonia see reasons why she should accept the little job and if not for anything,because of the huge amount of money Angela and her husband would be paying her on a monthly basis. Ebere made her understand that she was giving her this opportunity out of her church mind but Sonia suspected there might be something more to it as Ebere told her they will have to discuss after she must have spent a month with her new home and job. She never knew the joy of having a brother or sister.Her mother was a hell to live with.She had never for once told her anything about her father.Whenever she asked,her mother,if in a good mood will only tell her that her father died when she was still a kid,and that was all she ever knew about her father;that he died when she was still a kid. The only sister she had was Bisi.Her good friend,who lived with parents not too far away. ___All these memories left Sonia with different kind of feelings.Sometimes,she cry.Sometimes,she smile;an indescribable kind of smile. ***::::::.*** "Sonia?"Angela called the second time.She was already dressed and set to leave for her shop.She had given the idea of going to the shop with Sonia a second thought but ended up discarding the idea.She didn't need a sales girl.If she needed help at the shop,she could have employed one. "Yes Aunty"Sonia answered,emerging from the kitchen,wiping her soapy hand on her dress.She must have been busy with the dishes.The poor girl was just a blessing to Angela with the way she does things.Angela has grown fond of her,taking her like a younger sibling. "I'm off to the shop.Don't forget to bring the clothes from the dry cleaner"she said. "Yes Aunty" "And before i forget,don't let me see you in this hair when i return.Make sure you go to the saloon.I'm sure the money i gave you must be enough"Angela barely finished what she was saying before her phone rang.She answered the phone Asap,bade Sonia goodbye and made to leave.It was one of her customers who just called. "Aunty please,there is something i want to tell you" Angela was already at the door.She turned in a hurry. "what is it?"she asked.She didn't want to waste any more time. "I would like to visit my mother today"She lied.Her eyes almost betraying her.It was Ebere who told her they must have a serious discussion today.Ebere equally told her to say what she just said. "You should have told me earlier so i can give you something for her"Angela said in a low voice as she searched her purse for some money. "Give this to her"she said giving Sonia some money."greet her for me.maybe on sunday we go visit her together"Angela shut the door after her. Sonia couldnt stop wondering what Ebere wants to discuss with her.Whatever it may be,in an hour or 2(hrs) later,she must find out.

EPISODE 10 Sonia made up her mind to play along with Ebere.She had earlier discussed with her mother about it;whom saw nothing wrong with it. "At least,the crime you committed will forever remain a secret and moreover,i trust you will extort enough money from him"She added,making Sonia's endless thoughts grow the more.She was right about the idea of concealing the crime but that extorting money 'thing' was what made her give the old woman the "does this woman ever wish me well at all?" stare. "What is that?"Her mother who didn't take the staring for granted asked. "Nothing"Sonia had replied. *** Sonia thought of every possible ways to carry out her plans but a question struck her mind. What if David refuses her advances and send her out of the house? What will become of her? She thought very hard to avoid any complicated issue. She had to make sure she succeeds because if she doesn't, she will loose everything.The impatient Ebere had sent her texts over the pasts days,saying she's still waiting for a call. The second week was coming to an end and she equally knew that Ebere meant every word she said. "Three weeks or you face the law" The idea of eliminating Ebere crossed her mind severally but she remembered her words again;that there was another witness who also saw the way she heartlessly stabbed paul. The pictures Ebere later showed her mde her wish she had supernatural powers powers to change things.With those pictures,Ebere really got the upper hand. "Oh my God.I didn't mean to take his life. I know it wasn't right. Vengeance,you have finished me" ::::.***:::: Angela had gone out to visit a friend. David was at home with Sonia. She saw this as the perfect opportunity to begin her plans. She thought of what to do. David was in the sitting room watching television. She wore a very short mini skirt and a little sleeveless top, which revealed a clear view of her bossom.Ebere was at the other end of the mobile phone in her back pocket. As she stepped out of her room, she stopped and gave a second thought. Her inner self told her to move on before Angela comes back. She approached the sitting and stood still, staring at him. His eyes were glued to the football match he was watching. She stepped forward, her heart beating very fast. She placed her left palm on her chest to calm the increased heart beat. She kept stepping forward slowly. She just prayed her mission gets successful. She tapped him and as he turned, his eyes landed on her bossom. Sonia noticed his countenance change. She wondered what next. She didn't want to be embarrased. "You called me sir" She said instead, looking at him boldly as if she was actually called. "I didn't call you, and why are you putting on this dress" David asked, he was having mixed feelings. He didn't know if he should shout at her or not. Frankly speaking, he was beginning to like her for the type of person she was. Very hardworking, humble and respectful, with her beauty crowning it all. But for the sake of the vow he made on the alter to Angela, he always dismissed every negative thoughts to take advantange of the poor girl. But now,here she was with him all alone. He looked at her once more. He controlled himself as a man, not knowing that Sonia had a plan in mind. "Why are you wearing this?" He asked again. Sonia knew without being told that she had failed this first attempt. "Nothing sir. just that i was feeling heat. so i decided to wear this clothes" She answered, touching the clothes as if David didn't see them. "Is the fan in your room no longer working. Go to your room" David finally said and faced the football match he was watching. "I am sorry sir" Sonia drawled and started walking away slowly."Ebere surely must be angry over there"She thought. Few hours later,Angela called and informed David that she won't be returning home that very day. She had gone to see her parents with the hope of returning that same day but something came up which made her mother ask her to call her husband and inform him she won't be returning that day. After ending the converstion on the phone with his wife, he called Sonia to inform her that her madam would not come home that day, so that would not prepare her dinner. Sonia nodded in comprehension. "Another chance"she thought and smiled to herself. When it was time to start preparing dinner, she carefully prepared it and went into her room. It was 7.45pm and David was getting hungry. Sonia ought to have called him to come and eat. "Sonia" he called. There was no answer. He kept calling her name while heading to the kitchen.She wasn't there.He headed to her room,still calling her name. Episode 11 David was shocked at the sight he beheld. As a man that he was,he got filled with mixed feelings.Should he go back and leave her alone?. He shut the door and called her name again from outside.She didn't answer.He called again.This time around,he was getting angry. "How am i sure she is still alive?"he thought. He immediately pulled the door and called her name aloud. She moved and opened her eyes.On seeing him,she quickly grabbed the bedspread and covered her self. "I am sorry sir"she said,standing up,holding the bedspread loosely.She allowed it drop down,revealling every part of her body to David. She pretended it was accidental and unintentional as she bent down to pick it up to cover herself. "I am very sorry sir.i'm sorry"she said again,standing there and looking at him as if he was a ghost. David just shook his head and made for the door. "Get me my dinner"he said before shutting the door. Sonia face changed immediately he left.she was very disappointed. "what manner of man is this? Does it mean i am not appealing to him?"she thought. "I am trying my best o.i am doing my best"This she said to Ebere on the phone before unmuting it. "That is your own business"Ebere's voice echoed from the other end before the line went dead. "I must make up for this,before he tells my madam another thing"She got dressed and went out to dish out David's dinner. As she notified him that dinner has been served,she was reluctant to leave.She scratched her head and stood still.David noticed this. "What is it?"He asked. "Emm,sir...i,i..want to apologise for what happened today.i am very sorry.Its just that i was feeling heat and i didn't like putting on the fan.i am very sorry"Sonia sounded so innocent. "It's ok.there is no problem.But let me bring to your notice,whether heat or cold in that your room,you must wear decent clothes.have i made myself clear?"David stressed out. "Yes sir"Sonia answered nodding. She smiled to herself as she went back to her room. **::::::** Two days later,She visited her mom to narrate how she had tried to lure Mr.David to lied with her which proved abortive. "Mama,i have tried my best but the man has refused.I am afraid he might find out my mission and send me packing.Mama i dont want to go to jail.That Ebere is heartless.She just wont let me be"Sonia lamented. "What do you suggest we do?"her mother asked. "Mama that is why i am here.help me out"She pleaded while her mother nodded in comprehension. :::::.***:::::: The witch doctor they visited gave Sonia a liquid in a black bottle and told her to put it in David's food for three consecutive days and he will become hers. ::::.**::::: Sonia called David to come and have breakfast.He had carefully applied the liquid as instructed by the witch doctor.She stood around to make sure David ate the food when he eventually come out of his room.She just couldn't wait to see the food pass down his throat.She had only 6 days left to do Ebere's bidding. The only thing on her mind that moment was to see David pass the food down his throat.

Episode 12 David came out from his room and headed to the dinning to have breakfast. As he sat down,he glanced at his wristwatch and muttered something,shook his head and stood up. Sonia saw this and edged closer. "Sir,you are leaving.you didnt touch your food"Sonia said gently. "I'm running out of time.I need to be at the meeting this morning in the next fifteen minutes"He explained. "But,sir,missing breakfast is not actually good.It is always advisable to eat breakfast in the morning,no matter what.Please sir,eat your breakfast"Soniasounded like a newly married wife. Just then,Angela emerged and went up to her husband. "Darling.She is right.please come and eat your food.The office and meeting can wait.your health is more important to me"she said as she took him by the hand like a baby and led him back to the dinning table. Sonia watched carefully as he chew and swallowed the food.She smiled and left. Sonia's heartbeat increased as she was set to carry out her final operations. She successfully applied it into his food and bath water. Now,the only thing left was to rub his head with her palms.She applied the liquid on her palm and stayed in a place where she knew David would pass through after bathing. Episode 13 "shine bright like a diamond" "shine bright like a diamond....." Angela tossed on her bed.The phone kept ringing.She peered at the screen,It was "Sweet mother" calling. She tossed again from one side of the bed to another.She was still enjoying her sleep.It was the ringing phone that woke her up.She glanced at the clock hanging on the wall.It was 5.25am. She wondered why her mother could be calling so early that morning. "Good morning mum"She finally spoke into the phone. "Angela.Angela are you alright?"Mrs uwa asked from the other end of telephone. "I'm alright mum.I hope there is no problem"Angela asked curiously.Her mother's voice didn't sound normal. "Angela.i had a dream that's why i called you"Mrs uwa said with a shaky voice. "A dream?"Angela asked yawning. "Angela, i had a dream.you were travelling by a bus,sitting very comfortably on your seat and then a lady came out from nowhere and started dragging the seat with you..The seat that you paid ticket for.What baffled me was that everybody in the bus kept quiet as if they didn't see what was happening.Then she finally pulled you out of the fast moving bus and you fell down on the express road.Immediately,i woke up"She narrated with a deep sigh of confusion. Angela heaved and yawned again. "Mama,it's just a dream.It's only a dream.Don't worry okay? I'm fine"Angela said. "No no no. Angela,my dreams are not just dreams.I hardly dream and when i have one,its usually a revelation because it later comes to pass.Angela,youmust pray hard.Pray real hard because i sense danger"Mrs uwa warned. Her mother's dreams comes into reality though but only one case gave her doubts.Her little sister was taken by unknown gunmen few months after her birth and they never heard anything about her again.She felt her sister could be dead;if not blood and destiny ought to have brought them together again but her mother kept saying that her lost daughter was still alive,that she dreams of it. Angela openly doubted the possibility of her still being alive. She also remembered how her mother had told them she had a dream where her aunty,her mother's sister had an accident and died.Her mother had told her sister about it and asked her to pray.They too,prayed over it.Few months later,her aunty died in a ghastly motor accident. Angela became scared.She clasped her hand together and muttered something. "Angela.You must come over so we can pray over this.Tell David about it.I'm very sure he would allow you come"Mrs uwa said before finally hanging up. Angela got up immediately and went up to David to tell him about it. David granted her the permission without wasting anytime. The pastor Angela and her mother visited,told Angela that she must fast for seven days (6am-3am) and at the end of the fast,she must come for prayers.Becauseof this,she stayed over at her parents place as instructed by her mother. ]EPISODE 13 David rolled again on the big bed,curling up at one end to see if sleep would welcome him into it's soothing arms. He kept still expecting it to come but it never came.Not even a shadow of that blessing called sleep did he see. He knew for certain that there was no way sleep can take him away in his thoughts. He was thinking,thinking about Sonia but trying to convince himself that it was his dear Angela he was thinking of. He fought those thoughts but they persisted. He found it strange how Sonia filled up his mind,heart and thoughts.They have lived for quite a longtime and he never felt like this before.He wondered if it could be because of the fact that Angela was not around. He shook his head negatively.That was not the first time Angela left the house without returning for few days. Of course the poor girl was a maid,employed to help out with the household chores;he never saw any need of thinking about her when he had Angela but tonight he just couldn't understand what was happening. He had called Angela on the phone few minutes ago and they gisted and laughed for sometime before bidding each other goodnight but still,the beautiful image of Sonia couldn't get out of his mind. It was as if someone held her picture to his face for him to see and he was trying to push it away but the person holding it refused letting go.Just like when someone tells you to shut your eyes and think about other things apart from him;surely,you must think about that person and try not to. A memory flashed into his mind.It was that day Sonia showed up when he was watching a football match.He remembered the way she had appeared and how lovely she looked. Another memory that got him up on his feet was when he saw her sleeping in her room with everything that made her a woman open for him to see.He equally remembered when she stood up and the bedspread fell down.He pictured her fair,elegant and inviting bossom,her tempting curves and shapes. He swallowed hard and made for the door as the whole incident kept replaying in his head. He headed towards her room,though he didn't know what he was going there to do but he felt like beholding her face physically;perhaps,it could help cure this new sickness of his. He walked lazily until he arrived at her door.He reasoned within him that it would be a disturbance if he called her name at that time of the night without any solid reason. He tried opening the door quietly to just steal a look at her and then go back in peace but it was locked.He rested against the door and muttered something under his breath. He finally made up his mind to knock.He knocked gently the first time,no answer. When he tried again,he heard Sonia's calm voice from within,demanding to know whom it was. "I'm the one"David's voice was weak. Sonia jumped down from the bed and adjusted her pyjamas.Her eyes went up to the clock hanging on the wall. It was 10:50pm Soon,Ebere's voice was heard on the phone. "What is it? Two days.48 hours left.The clock is ticking......." Sonia started coughing for the fear of David hearing a single thing until it was muted. She took the phone and made for the door. She opened the door and found David standing there helplessly. She halted and paid attention with her eyes.Her heartbeat increased.She thought she saw someone zoom out from one side of the bush to the other side.She observed keenly but saw no one.She turned back almost immediately but saw no one.She forged ahead with increased pace. Few seconds later,two hefty young men intercept her.One came out from the left side of the bush while the other came out from the right.The look on their faces proved they didn't come to play. Angela turned with immediate effect and started running for her dear life.They only laughed and stood their ground.She managed to look back at them,only to see them still standing there but before she could face her front again,alas,two men were already standing in her way and so,because she saw them too late,she couldn't apply the brakes at her feet as she hit them very hard and fell with a mighty thud. The other men joined them.Angela was on the ground.Silent and motionless.One of them bent close to her and chuckled. "The babe don sleep"He announced. Chike advised her to save her strength and keep quiet for her own good before she pushes him to do what she wouldn't like.This time,he spoke with a calm voice which suprisingly kept her quiet.It wasn't the threat that kept her quiet but the voice.Yes,that voice sounded familiar.She examined his face with great effort in that dark of the night. "Chike.One in town.The son of the soil"She called him.A ray of hope flashing in. Chike was startled.He turned slowly to take a closer view of this lady who knew him that well.That was the name his friends called him back then in school. He went closer and squatted opposite her,looking into her eyes. "Chike wey dey run things.Chike wey things no dey run"Angela suprised him again.That was his slogan then;"i run things.things no dey run me" "Chike it's me Angela,your own paddy.Your next door neighbour"She said finally to Chike who was already turning his face away,slowly. He took few steps backwards and peeped out to see if his members were coming back.He was indeed troubled.Angela had been a good friend to her back in school.She was like a sister to him.Helping him with even the cookings,for he could barely boil yam. She helped him during exams to make sure he passed.He never read his reads despite all Angela's struggles to see that he made reading a habit. Most of all,Angela was a decent girl whom they all respected for who she was;caring and amicable. He lamented within him why this should happen now.He knew what they stands to loose if she gets away,and the worst part of the story being that others will come after him. He looked at her again.She was in pains,she needed help.He remembered the countless number of times she helped him selflessly. The tears from her eyes affected him so much.This was the same girl that always tried to put smiles on his face.Not only on his face but on the faces on all the people. He had to act fast.He couldn't leave her there to die.He looked around,without much ado,untied her ropes and started leading her out of the forest. It wasn't up to four minutes they left the uncompleted building that a gunshot was heard in that direction.Angela inquired to know who sent them to kidnapp her but he refused revealing the person. Another gunshot was heard in there direction.Chike knew they were after them.He found a hidden place where he told Angela to stay while he hid somewhere else. He started hearing footsteps.They were running towards him.He kept still as they emerged.He saw them speed past him,heading to the exact place where Angela was hiding.Who knew if she had not urinated in her panties. He needed no one to tell him that she would be found there.He thought very hard to find a way of making them change direction but couldn't figure out any idea. He fired his riffle into the air and immediately,they dived into different directions,got up and charged towards him. He came out and told the he was looking for her. Thunder came closer to him with anger written all over his face. "Do you expect me to clap for you? She gave you her body and you swam in her.she use ur brain.abi?" "No chairmo.No be so.na piss i go piss.wen i come back i no see her again"Chike explained. "Guy u 4cup.Cheii!"Another one interjected. Episode 18 1:20pm *Sonia's mother's place* Ebere's voice was calm as she tried to get the old woman to see reasons to agree to her opinions.She knew Sonia could be serious with her words but she was so bent on getting her revenge against Angela whom she believed was the reason why Mike,her rich fiancee broke up with her few days to their wedding.That incident surely left her with pains.Deep inner pains which time can never heal.It left her a shattered woman with all the memories that refused to let her be.How she loved him with all her heart.How she surrendered her all to him.How she gave all of herself to him.It was really heartbreaking.She found it hard to console herself and move on with life whenever that instincts of hers tell her it was Angela's handwork. She had thought of running away to another country to start her life anew without the police having to find her for killing somebody but there was no money.Besides,she never had the heart to leave her harsh and ungrateful mother alone.They would hold her if she dissappears. **Sonia's mother's place** "I have a plan.A perfect plan which will see your daughter take over as David's new wife"Ebere whispered to Sonia's mother. Many questions flashed through her mind as she sat at the back of the taxi,swaying to the tune of the gallop from the pot-holes on the bad road,making her totally uncomfortable.On a normal ocassion,she ought to have barked at the driver to slow down but instead,she jeered at the driver to add more speed to the tyres.She just wished she could fly to her destination immediately. She was ready to finish what she started;to make sure Angela lose her marriage completely and if possible,her life.She blessed the day Angela whispered it into her ears that she wanted a maid. When the taxi finally came to a halt,she paid the driver,looked at both side of the road as it to make sure nobody saw her before diving into the bush.The 'baba's place was not hard to locate.Who knows how many times she had come to him for help. She removed her footwears and stood before the great shrine.Nobody was there but the eyes and the glory of the deity were believed to have watched and protected the place. She looked around the shrine,bundles of money,pictures of people and other personal items belonging to people were all over the place. The red clothes tied everywhere,the large mirror and the scary faces of the gods made the shrine a horrible sight to behold. "The eyes of the gods.The great one.Your humble daughter is here"Ebere spoke out with her head bowed low.She remained calm and quiet for sometime.Soon,the sound of the great 'Dibia' could be heard emerging from nowhere,breaking the silence "What troubles you my daughter?"He asked as he went for a seat. "Great one,my heart is heavy.Your daughter is getting older by the day.Had it been i got married to mike,by now i would be seeing my children,playing and calling me mummy.Ever since then,no man has ever said anything about marriage to me.Despite all i do for them"Ebere sobbed as she opened her handbag and brought out Angela's pictures and documents. "Great one.I...." "Hold your peace.The great one has read your mind.You want me to make her husband irresistible to her maid and at the same time,wipe her out from the face of the earth"The old man,whose teeth has turned brown,with chalk circled around his eyes,said,looking into a little calabash murmuring some incantations. "Yes.yes great one.Yes"She responded nodding. The old man smiled and pointed to a corner inside the shrine. "Go there and drop something for the gods"he said as he stood up and went before the mirror.He stood before it and started making some incantations. "Look here young woman"he ordered Ebere,pointing at the mirror. Ebere's eyes went to the mirror.She almost fell down out of shock.She couldn't believe monitoring someone with mirror can be possible but in that mirror was Sonia and David.Sonia was on bed while David was dressing up to hurry out. She glanced at her wristwatch it was 2pm.David should be at work by this time.she smiled. The 'Dibia' murmured something and sprinkled some water on the mirror.Ebere could see Sonia shiver as a result of that.Sonia felt something enter her body as she screamed out David's name. The dibia waved his hand across the mirror and everything faded. "That charm will desert her whenever they are caught together.As for the woman you want dead,organise boys to kidnap her right away.She must be brought here today"He instructed

Episode 21 **2.05pm that same day** David was already dressed up.Sonia only watched him weakly.She couldn't explain what she felt all over her body few minutes ago but she felt it.She felt the shock and the awe that invaded her. "Are you going out?"She suddenly asked. "Of course i am.I need to get back to the office"he replied as he hurried to the door.Sonia ran up and help him tight begging him to stay with her a little longer. "I cant stay here all alone"She pleaded,caressing him as she embraced him tightly. "Why not spend more time with me?"She muttered as she held him speechless with her kisses. David responded to all her moves.She was the reason why he left his office when he couldn't bear the longing desire for her any longer.But they already have had a little good time,he thought,some more may not be bad. He sucked hungrily at her lips,while his hands sought for her bossoms.Sonia just couldn't understand what was happening. This was something she has sworn to put an end to,but now and again,she couldn't bear this man walking out without satisfying her sexual urge. She worked on his shirt,carefully unbuttoning it. ____***_____ The cab pulled up in front of the compound.Angela lazily staggered out.Right since she left home,she had not been herself.She had visited the public toilet more than ten times.She couldn't remember eating anything that could be responsible for the inceasant purge which also came with headache and high body temperature.As a result,she deemed it best to go home. I dey carry for free?"The angry driver addressed Angela who was bent on getting into the house.She turned back and gave him the amount they agreed on. On getting to the compound,she saw her husbands car parked there.She wondered what he might be doing at home.He should be in the office.She gently opened the door and surveyed the parlour.Nobody was there but on the floor a cloth was lying them.She picked it up and examined it.It was the top Sonia was wearing in the morning. She held her aching head. "I hope its not what i'm thinking"She soliloquied as she made into the bedroom quietly. On approaching there,she paused to examined what she was hearing.She could hear soft moans from the bedroom. She barged into the room immediately,almost slumping at the sight she beheld.She felt her world crashing.Right before her was her dear husband on the bed with Sonia.They were not even aware of her presence. Episode 22 "David!" Angela screamed, holding her cheeks with both palms. Hot tears spontaneously rolled down from her eyes. She ran out immediately. She just couldn't stand the sight. Sonia quickly jumped down from the bed.She felt something leave her body.She felt that force which invaded her disappear immediately.Her heart was beating fast.She was totally scared,not knowing what to do next. David just took it as if nothing happened. "What is it. come back to bed please"David said. Sonia let out an inaudible hiss,her head spinning.Escape was the only thing on her mind and here's this man telling him to come back to bed with him.Maybe something's wrong with him,she thought as she ran her fingers across her hair in total disarray "Do you want your wife to kill me? Didn't you see her?"she asked reaching for her clothes.With a little less than the speed of light,she grabbed them and fled into her room,gathered few clothes into her bag with the little time she had left.She was ready to accept whatever she gets.Her world had always been an illusion.Life had never seen her as anything more than an outcast. She reached for her phone,peered at the screen swiftly and glanced at it again. Fourteen missed calls from her mum. She dialled her number straightaway.It was ringing but after each ringing,a female voice would tell her that the subscriber was not responding but she could send her a mini call for an amount which she didn't care to hear.She hated hearing that.She hated it whenever somebody's phone whom she called,rings without the person answering it. "Whatever it is mom,you will see me soon"She told herself,zipping the bag she had roughly packed few of her clothes into.She knew she would soon be a wanted person.Wanted by the police;because she believed Ebere wouldn't let her be after all the damage she has inflicted on people already.Wanted by Angela,the lady who once told her she could kill anyone whom she catches with her dear husband. "It would have been better if the law caught up with me earlier.I wouldn't have gone through all these.Where do i run to? What do i do with myself?"Sonia felt her heart tearing and breaking apart under the pain she felt inside. Angela must never meet her there,she had to move fast,to face her destiny Angela was sobbing and shedding tears in the parlour.She couldn't believe her beloved husband could betray her.She wept bitterly.She wondered for how long they must have been doing this in her back.Sonia? Whom she trusted so much and took like a sister? Something told her she was the cause of it all,for bringing her in the first place.She waved it off. Angela bursted into fresh tears.She lifted her head and saw David standing before here with hands in the pocket. 'Gosh,he still had no shame to show his disgusting face'She thought. Out of anger and frustration,she grabbed the chair pillow and threw it at him. "Get out! leave! I hate you!"she yelled.David left and came again back almost immediately.He stood there without uttering any word. This got Angela more flabbergasted than anyone can imagine. He could have atleast said something;some meaningless crap because he was supposed to say something instead of standing there and moping at her. She stood up moving towards him with an unnameable look in her eyes. "You disgust me.I'm disappointed in you.how could you stoop so low.I trusted you so much.This proves that you have been running around other women.you haven't been a faithful husband.You disgust me"she said and stormed out of the room,leaving David there like an undecided ghost. She expected her parents to show up any moment from then.She had called them earlier telling them to come over.They inquired from her what the problem was but with her crying voice she told them to come over immediately. With the anger boiling and swelling up in her,she searched for Sonia;not knowing what to actually do with her until she finds her..... ___This Episode Continues in few hours hours time.[

Episode 23 Sonia clutched the hand of her bag,the same bag she had come with few months ago and made her way through the back door.She couldnt bear those eyes of Angela looking murderously at her,knowing she did something that deserved more than such a stare. Coming out from the backyard,She saw her mother sauntering into the compound.She could see the 'okada man' reversing his motorcycle. "Sonia.Sonia.We are leaving immediately.No questions.I will tell you why,later"Her mother said,seeing the bag in her hand.She already packed.'Whats happening?' she wondered. "Why mom.why? Dont you want me to stay again,to bring you huge money? Aren't you happy with that anymore?"She let down the heavy tears from her ears. "I am sorry my daughter.I have truly hurt you in every way.I have really done you enough harm"There was sorrow in her voice.She drew Sonia close and embraced her.Something she couldn't remember the last time she did.This time,all of a sudden,she could feel Sonia's pain.She could feel her heartbeat thuddering beneath her chest.She needed no one to tell her she was the architect of the poor girl's plight. "Sonia!"Angela's harsh and aggravated tone separated them. "Oh i see,you both have succeeded,"Angela increased her steps towards them,"how could you"She landed a hot resounding slap on Sonia.The kind of slap that comes with stars and dizziness.Angela lost control and pounced on her.She went wacko at that moment,tearing and pulling at the poor girl whose mother she pushed aside when she tried to stop her. "You will kill her o.and you will surely regret it if you do"Sonia's mother said,trying to get up from where she fell.Her kneels ached as a result of the fall.She could feel the hurting pain of the arthritis and rheumatism which was part of what she had been suffering for years. Angela landed several kicks on Sonia's belly with her kneel.Sonia screamed painfully with all her might. "Ahh my tommy.Jesus...my tom......"her voice trailed off. Blood was seen traling down her legs. Angela got up from her to get a better view of what she was seeing,which was just playing like a movie before her Sonia continued bleeding. Episode 24 Angela took some steps backwards with her eyes focused on the red liquid dripping from Sonia. She knew what it signified.She needed no one to tell her that what it meant.With a quick reflex,she turned and saw David standing some distance away.She stared at her,hatred and anger filled her eyes with questions flashing through her mind.How dare him? How dare him do this to her? How could he impregnate their maid? Could it be because she has not been able to conceive and give him a child? Tears gathered in those eyes of hers,red with anger but she fought hard to send the tears back to where they came from. "Are you people going to leave her here? Do you people want her to die?"Sonia's mother spoke out.Ebere was right.Sonia was pregnant. Angela was sure she didn't quite hear her right but she heard her say something.Her head was spinning.She was beginning to feel dizzy.It was then it dawned on her that she actually brought another wife for her husband in the name of a maid.She felt everything turning around and before she knew it,she slumped to the ground. David rushed over to her at once while Sonia's mother was supporting her daughter to her feet.They must get to the nearest hospital as soon as possible. David never knew she was pregnant.She never told him about it. A car pulled into the compound.Mr.and mrs.Uwa;Angela's parents got down impatiently,seeing their daughter on the ground and a woman they never wished they would see again;Sonia's mother;Ngozi's half sister who was always at logger heads with her(Angela's mother) "How can father give you most of all he has and left me with with little? Am i not his daughter too? You poisoned his mind against me.We shall see"Those were the words Mrs.Ngozi uwa got from her when their father's will was read out,and ever since then,different kinds of problems unleashed themselves on herself and her husband until they seemed to have ceased.Armed robbers visited them regularly,confiscating almost everything they had.Mrs Ngozi uwa was nearly forced to concluded that her half sister,Adaora,whose husband died in a motor accident with their two kids,was behind the disappearance of her child. Could she be the mother of Sonia? How come? Confusion and curiousity manifested themselves on her,but who was she going to ask those questions. Her half sister had gave a wicked,prolonged hiss on seeing her.It was her husband who signaled to her not to make any move or say anything to her. "What is happening here"Mr uwa asked,rushing to feel her daughter. "David what happened?"Mrs uwa asked with her heart beating fast.She feared something bad might have happened to her daughter. "She fainted!"David reported. "Isnt that Sonia your maid? What happened to her?"She asked againg pointing at them,moving out of the compound.Adaora was seriously making sure they left quicky. "What is wrong with you young man? Cant you talk again? We can take them both to the hospital"Mr uwa rushed and reversed his car.David played down his question.They got Angela into the car and in no time,they were out of the compound.Adaora and Sonia were nowhere to be found. **3.15PM THAT SAME DAY* Angela woke up to see her mother by her side.She glanced around.She was at home. The doctor said she only fainted and nothing more. Mr.uwa had tried hearing from David what actually happened but he never answered his questions the way he wanted him to,so he waited on Angela. Angela's mother too,was not left out it thoughts.What could have happened to her precious daughter? "Are you feeling better now?"She asked,watching her daughter closely.She looked weak. Angela nodded and said she wanted to ease herself "Where is she?"David who came in few minutes later asked. "She went to ease herself"Mrs uwa replied,eyeing him suspiciously.David left. "I cant find her,"David reported,emerging from the door that led to the backyard,"I have searched every nook and cranny of this house" "Is she up already?"Mr.uwa asked,as he entered the room.Seeing the troubled look on the two faces there,the look on his face changed too. "Angela is missing"David announced,reached for his car keys and hurried out,leaving his inlaws there like undecided ghosts

Episode 25 David zoomed out of the compound with many thoughts racing through his mind.Where could she have gone to? Ebere's place was where he first drove to but she wasn't there.He called Ebere on the phone and asked her if she has seen her friend.Ebere told him she never saw her that day. The thought of her running away to kill herself scared him.He knew the whole incident got her shattered,downcasted and heart broken.The only thing on his mind at that time was to find her safe,then whatever happens between them would be another bridge to be crossed.She had left her phone at home. Somewhere along the road,David saw a crowd of people.Some were peeping,others were stretching their neck while others only shook their head. He wound down the glass of his car to inquire from one of the on-lookers what was going on. "Na one useless driver o wey jam one woman leave am there run"The bald headed skinny man answered,revealing his brown teeth. Without waiting for him to conclude,David hastily alighted from his car to see the victim.Could it be Angela? His beartbeat increased. He pushed through the crowd and behold,there she was.A young lady in a purple dress with her long hair scattered on the ground.He could see traces of blood.His heartbeat dropped as he sighed,wiping the sweat off his face.Angela was wearing a red top with a skirt made of jean material but he felt sorry for the lady lying on the ground there.Who knew if she was still breathing? That's the problem with people,David thought,instead of people to take her to the hospital on time,they left her there,staring at her as if she was something from another planet.He ran back to his car and saw four missed calls from his father-in-inlaw who also went his way in search of her daughter. He dialled back,shook his head,aborted the call and read the message he sent:"HAVE YOU SEEN HER? WHERE ARE YOU?" He drove away,his mind focused on finding his wife. Ebere had paid some boys who raided Angela's shop but didn't get her.However,David's call informing her of Angela's disappearance got her worried because she was bent on sending the boys to her home,to kidnap her.She went over to see things for herself only to Angela's mother pacing all around the house pensively. The baba said she must be brought to his shrine that very day. She hung around with her boys near Angela's locality,searching everywhere with her eyes for her prey. It was when she finally gave up hope of ever finding her that she caught the sight of something.They were from Angela's area. Ebere focused her attention on the person she saw.She was trying to hang herself with a large rope.It was no other person than the Angela everybody has been looking for. Angela opened her eyes when the blindfold was removed from them.She felt some pain and closed them again. 'What do this people want from me?',She kept asking herself,they should have let me alone to have peace.To rest from all these pains' She remebered how she had gone over to Sonia's place with the gun in her hand.If only she had met her there or even her mother but alas,the door was locked with a heavy padlock. She rubbed her hand over her eyes burning with pains. She glanced around the place.The angry looking faces of the gods,combined with the furious men that kidnapped her made her nervous. "What do you people want from me!?"She asked with shaky lips. "Your time here on earth is up,woman"the old 'dibia' who was just emerging answered her. "You lie.you are not my creator and so,you cant decide when my time is up"Angela,who convinced herself that her time was up when she wanted to take her life heard herself say.Her words earned her a heavy slap from one of those men,leaving traces of his fingers on her face. Ebere showed up,looking at Angela straight in the eyes. "Times comes in this life when we pay for the crimes and sins we commited.Angela,this is the time to pay yours"Ebere said with a mean face. "What are you talking about Ebere?"The confused Angela asked,not believing what was happening. "You thought i wasnt aware all this while? So you are happy that i have remained unmarried while you are enjoying life to the fullest with your husband,right? You drove away Mike,the only man that wanted to marry me by telling him how i do go about sleeping with men.Isn't it?"Ebere stressed out. "Ebere,What do you take me for? Goodness me.So you believed i did that to you? Why should i? Everyone knows the type of life you are living.Its never a secret"Angela felt betrayed. "I'm sorry.Sonia is already pregnant for your husband.I masterminded everything.She will take over your home because you are not getting away alive"Ebere said and turned her back on her,leaving. "Ebere,Ebere,Ebe...why,i am innocent.why are you doing this to me? Save me oh God,my hands are clean"Angela cried,her heart almost crashing to pieces. Episode 26 "David,you have been reserved and taciturn.You have refused answering my questions and i cant condone it any longer.What happened to my daughter.What led to her fainting"Mr.Uwa asked,the pain and anger of his daughter still missing,showing all over him.It was already getting dark.They just returned from the police station after making a report. "Did she fight with the maid? Were they fighting?"His wife added. David shifted on the chair where he sat and stole glances at them.He felt bad within himself.He didn't know how to tell his inlaws what happened because all these while he had felt like someone under someone else's control. He concluded it would be better if Angela told them by herself. "She just fainted.Nothing more.What else do you want me to say"David replied calmly,pacing up and down. "Who's that woman we saw earlier? Is she the mother of the maid? And why were they leaving with the bag which i believe is hers?"Mrs uwa asked. "She is her mother.oh,what do i do now? The air was filled with the voices of prayer;a miraculous medium of miracles.Prayer,which changes things beyond human comprehension. The prophetic voice of the pastor was heard saying that Angela is in great danger but needs divine grace.At a point,he called out her husband's name,telling everyone to pray upon him for liberation from any power acting upon him. **** David woke up the next morning feeling so fresh,despite being up in thoughts all night till sleep stole him at the early hours of the morning.He rubbed his hands against his eyes,surely,something he couldnt explain died in him last night. Tears trickled down from his eyes when he remembered what he has been doing.He had been busy going against the promise he made to Angela on the alter.He had been commiting adultery with their housemaid. "What happened to you David? What went wrong",he wept,"Forgive me Angela,i have wronged you,please come back to me.If you leave me forever,i will never forgive myself.Oh God please bring Angela back to me..." **** Angela's eyes were swollen.She cried all night,while gigantic mosquitoes feasted on her delicate skin.She was kept in an uncompleted building with two young men watching over her.She was too weak to cry again, they didnt give her anything to eat.She wished someone she knew comes to her aid just as it happened in the dream.She blamed herself for not telling her mom about it;perhaps,they might have prayed it away. She just laid there,tied hands and legs pretending to be asleep. She soon felt a touch and opened her eyes,it was Ebere. "How do you feel,dear friend?"she asked with a wicked smile. "My God is alife and He will surely vindicate me because i am innocent of your accusations.I have finally come to believe that the devil you know is better than the angel you dont.Ebere you are a betrayer"Angela weakly said and spat on her with enough strength. "Have your fun,you may never be able to do that again for life",Ebere said using her handkerchief on her face,"i advice you start saying your last prayers because before dawn tomorrow,you would be no more.i'm sorry.And corncerning sonia,dont worry,she is not taking over your home.she is going to jail for murder" Sonia and her mother were at her aunt's place whom they pleaded to let them stay with her for a little time watching the mid day news when Sonia saw it.Her photo was shown on the television with the caption,"wanted" According to the new,she ran away from home with her mother when she discovered that someone saw her kill somebody. Hot tears rolled down from her eyes as she fell into her mother's arm,sobbing sorrowfully in fear.

Episode27 "Mom,i'm in trouble.The police wants me.They want me.."Sonia wailed between throaty sobs. "Haven't she had enough? Must she do this?"Adaora kept asking.One could easily conclude she was asking the broadcaster on the t.v "Mom,what do we do now? I do want the police to catch me.People have seen the announcement already.What do i do?"Sonia asked in despair as if the police were already on their way to get her. Adaora held Sonia's face and made her look into her eyes. "Listen to me.Dont be afraid.You are not going to prison.That is a promise i'm making to you.Even if it means me going against my will,I will do it.You have suffered enough under me.I dont think i deserve to be called your mother"Adaora told her,nodding gently,fully prepared to do whatever might be of help to Sonia.Even if it meant revealing her secrets which she knew wont sound good to anybody. David was kneeling in the church.He had been there for hours.He was tired,worn-out,weak and hungry but there was no piece of appetite in him.The absence of Angela was making him abnormal.He abandoned his work,which was a great risk.He had searched every searchable place for her.No good news seem to have entered his ears from the police. "We are trying our best"That was all they kept saying. He made no sound kneeling there in the church all alone but he was crying and praying to God to bring back his wife. Sonia looked at herself in the mirror,standing infront of it.The brown weavon Adaora fixed on her really disguised her.She looked totally different. "We are leaving this place immediately to a more secure environment"Adaora said. It was getting dark.The sun was no longer up in the sky.Pehars,it has gone to give other people somewhere its light. Angela could hear the sounds of nocturnal insects and animals.The two guards were there as usual,making sure the place was guarded.She had begged them to have mercy on her,telling them she would give them whatever they wanted if they let her go but not even a single word war heard from them,which left her wondering if they were still there,as she was blindfolded. She soon felt a hand around the back of her head and shook her head in retaliation,hitting the hand with her head. "Don't let me smack your head"She heard the angry voice of one of the guards,who brought his hands back to untie the cloth tied around her eyes. Some drop of tears fell from Angela's eyes as the blindfold was removed.The ropes on his hands and legs were also untied. She lifted up her face and present were the old 'dibia' and Ebere with the two guards. "The gods are ready to accept your blood and the sacrifice must be made before dawn tomorrow.So,we have come to prepare you for the sacrifice"He said,dipped hand into his animal skin bag and brought out a white chalk which he circled round her eyes.Angela wanted to say something to Ebere but she was too weak to do so. After circling her eyes to his satifaction,he brought out a white gown and gave it to Ebere. "Take off all her clothes and make her wear that white.Not even her inner wears should be on.That is what the gods demanded.If she refuses to let you do it,then the guards will have to do it with all pleasure"He instructed,making some incantations. Ebere looked at the white gown in her hand and looked at Angela.From,Angela to the two guards and back to the white gown in his hand. "Look away,you two"She told the guards who obeyed and turned away their faces. She dropped the gown on the ground and removed Angela's top and her brassiers.She pulled off her skirts and her innerwears and then,rolled the gown on her.Angela expressed no fear while she did all that.She uttered no word to them. Episode 28 Bisi peeped again at the lady standing in the compound through the window.She was in no way familiar.Bisi had seen her walk bodly into the compound not long ago. "Bisi,Kilode? You have been peeping out through that window for sometime now"Her mother shocked her,coming closer to see what she was peeping at. Bisi had gasped,jumping back ,out from the window side,facing her mother. "Iya mi.You startled me"She said with a pouted lips,making a face. "Leave the road jare,let me see something"Her mother murmured out,ignoring her complain and looked out through the window to have a view too. "Who is she?"She asked,still observing the lady in a black suit with a dark lense covering her eyes and a red handbag in her hand.Her red high-heeled shoe seem to make her taller. "I don't know o.She just entered the compound"Bisi explained. "She is not a ghost.She is a visitor.Go and open the door for her,lets know who she is and what she wants" Bisi looked at her mother vaguely and made for the visitor boldly,like a child whose father sent to steal.Such a child they say,breaks the door with his feet. The lady smiled as she saw the door open.She wiped the sweat off her face with a little white handky which she produced from her handbag.Bisi closed the door behind her. "Goodday.Are you looking for anybody?"Bisi asked the lady who removed the glasses from her eyes,holding it with her left hand. Episode 29 Dawn was fast approaching.The moon was shinning bright up in the sky.Cold wind blew through out the thick forest.Angela yearned for her husband's warm body as she curled up with her eyes closed.She imagined what could be happening in the world she left behind;the tears she knew would be on David's eyes,the emotional trauma her parents would be going through especially her mother.She regretted running out of her home that very day she did. Angela gently opened her eyes on sensing somebody stand close to her.It was on of the guards.Angela caught his eyes feasting on her exposed laps.She wondered for how long he must have been staring at her and there was no way she could adjust the loose gown to cover her properly,knowing she was wearing nothing underneath.Her hands were tied backwards.Her legs,not spared. She tried shaking her body to see if it would give her the covering she wanted but instead,it seemed to get worse. Angela watched his eyes burn with desire as they tried to penetrate deeper.A look at his trouser told her he was already hard. Angela closed her eyes for a while and opened them again,giving him a smile. "I know i would soon die.Please make me feel like a woman before they finally come for me"Angela surprised him. He threw a look at his companion who was a bit far from them,sleeping and snoring hard.He smiled and turned to face Angela who gave him the sweetest seducing smile he ever saw in his entire life. "Cut off these ropes from my hands and legs and take me to a world of happiness and pleasure.I am all yours"Angela tempted him. He looked around in a haste and as if commanded to be fast about it,untied Angela. "Let's be fast before they come"Angela told him and drew him closer to herself.She caressed his head slowly,carefully watching him as his face lit up with joy. "Are you sure your partner will not wake up?"She drawled. "I put something in the last food he ate.He is not getting up soon except i decide to wake him"He assured her,peering at him again. "Oh you already planned for this? hmmm..how did you read my mind?"Angela pinched his nose playfully and placed a simple kiss on his lips which almost took his breath away and ignited in him the power to make advances on her. He felt the softness of her skin gently with his palms,moving the hands down to her laps region. "Easyyy..."Angela whispered to him,catching his hand.Her right hand holding his left hand while the left held his right.At first,she held them gently,pressing herself on him tightly.She could feel his heart beat through her chest as she pressed herself to him. Then,slowly,she tightened her hold,gently releasing herself from him.His eyes were closed.With the light of the moon,she could see the happiness that filled his face. Angela's face changed.Her teeth clenched.Her eyes surveyed the target and with the last strength she got,her knee went in-between his two legs in a powerful kick,automatically forcing the closed eyes to open.With a quick reflex,he scooped his hands around his 'property' which was no doubt,on fire. "Ouuu.awww Sweet Jesus..."He cried in pains and staggered forward and then,fell down.He wailed at the top of his voice,with the strength of a dying man,calling upon his partner to come to his rescue "Wetin happen?"Jack,his partner,running towards him and rubbing hands over his eyes,asked. "Na the lady o.Na the lady o"He forced out,still bearing the excruciating pain. "Wetin happen to the lady? Where she dey?,"Jack asked seeing the way he was standing,with his hands between his two legs,"And wetin dey do you?" Jack looked around and saw the ropes with which their prisoner was tied.His eyes went red with anger. "Wetin happen! You no sabi talk again? "Jack asked him again,shaking him roughly. "She escaped.That girl na witch o.I dey somewhere here dey watch her.The next thing,i come see somebody wey wear black.Na so the person come dey cut the rope.Na im i come rush to hold the person.I never even come close,the person stretch leg kick me for my 'level'.Before i know wetin dey happen,the person vanish"He narrated. "You never talk wetin happen o.Zomb.ie! You be fool! Make we pursue am o"Jack cursed and took his gun and torch from where he dropped them. Angela was lost, deep in the forest.Yet she was still running.Where she was running to,she couldn't tell.She knew the guards would come after her.As she ran,he heard different voices.The voice of wild animals.The voice of her mother,praying and calling her name.The voice of David weeping.The voice of Ebere laughing triumphantly.She stopped and covered her ears but the voices kept echoing in her brain. She saw a little shelter of bamboo sticks with some old rafia as the roof.She knew it was dangerous but she moved in,thinking it was safer. She had barely stayed upto five minutes in it when she saw rays of light flashing towards that direction with heavy footsteps. "They are here"She lamented To be continued

Episode 30 The lights flashed again into Angela's little hiding place,doubling her fears.The thought of pulling off the white gown she was wearing to reduce the chances of being easily spotted nimbled through her but she discarded it. She tried holding her breath to prevent making even the slightest noise of breathing. As the footsteps came closer,she heard their voices. "This was all your fault.Why were you sleeping on duty?" "Stop talking nonsense my friend! You think say i believe that your nonsense story? Spirit my foot.Ghost seer.Just pray to your god,whether amadioha or olokun or any other one wey you dey serve because i know say you no dey go church.Just pray make we find her o.Or na your head dem go take do the sacrifice" Angela listened as their voices died down.She didn't hear any more word from them again but she wasn't sure if they were still around or not. She heard the crackling of dry leaves besides her.The low silence shattering noise by the dry leaves gave her great cause for concern. She surveyed with great great effort,arround the place with the help of the moonlight. Then,she saw it.A great python,crawling towards her. Angela felt herself flush slowly,and heat coming in waves up her throat and cheeks.She wanted to scream but instead,she found herself covering her mouth with her palms.She wasn't sure if the men looking for her were still around. The python crawled faster and before she knew it,it was right in front of where she squatted. "David!"She screamed and bursted out,hearing a gunshot and seeing flashes of light.She hid at the back of a huge tree until the lights went off.She heaved a sigh of relief,made the sign of the cross and followed another direction. 4.45am Ebere and the old 'dibia' arrived as planned but the place was quiet and quite unusual.One of the guards should have met them some distance away from there,to make sure they were not unwanted guests. "Egbe!" "Jack!" "Are you both sleeping? Is that how you secure this place?"The old man asked,infuriated,expecting them to both run out and beg for forgiveness but to his greatest surprise,it seemed as if he was talking to the trees of the forest. Ebere's eyes burged out in bewilderment when she flashed the big torch she was holding to the place where Ebere was lying the previous day and found only ropes and nothing more. "Baba,she is gone.She is gone"Ebere disclosed,with the fear of insecurity and danger looming on her. "What? Impossible.That can't happen,"he dashed forward,taking the ropes in his hands,"Nooo.This cannot happen.The gods are already waiting for her blood.What do i tell them now....." The two guards panting heavily,ran up to them,interrupting him from speaking further. "She has escaped.A spirit came and cut the ropes from her o"Egbe reported.Jack eyed him and nodded in agreement. "May thunder strike the both of you.Go and look for her.If you fail to bring her here,the gods will come after you"He threatened,sending them back in search of Angela. ***** David's phone rang.He was lying on the floor of his parlour with empty bottles of alcoholic drinks besides him.He lazily reached for the phone and looked at the clock hanging on the wall before answering it. It was 6.05am. "David.Any news?"Tony,his friend who was on the steering asked. "No news my brother.No news"David replied. "Why is your voice like that? Hope you haven't been drinking" "I'm fine" "Alright.I'm driving now.I have to catch an appointment.I will come over as............" Episode 31 The morning came with cold wind which seemed to have made everyone stay indoor that fateful morning. Adaora was also caught indoor,on the little mat which she shared with Sonia the previous night,wondering if there was anything she could do to lift Sonia from the dilemma she found herself.She knew Sonia was in more trouble than she could imagine;if she was shown on the television,that means she must be on the newspapers as well. Adaora smiled to herself on remembering how they got past the police checkpoint the previous day,driving down here,where she deemed safer.The policemen were holding Sonia's picture.As they looked at the picture,they looked at them in the taxi.Sonia had eyed her,not knowing that it has gotten to that level.Sonia's excessive make ups and changed appearance made it impossible for the police to identify her. Adaora was ready to do all she could to see that Sonia escaped falling into the dangerous pit that was on her way,even if it meant seeking help from where she vowed never to. An uncomfortable feeling invaded Adaora.Her eyes never saw Sonia that morning. She opened the wooden door of the old mud house and looked around;perhaps,Sonia may be sweeping the little compound but to her surprise,she was not there.A quick wave of fear swept through her as she ran around checking every corner of the building calling her name but not even her shadow was seen.Sonia was gone.Gone to God-knows-where. Tony filled the air with early morning yellow dust as he sped off,with the nearest hospital on his mind.At regular intervals,his eyes went to the woman lying at the back seat.The fear in him didn't permit him to have a good look at her.So,he didn't know it was Angela,his best friend's wife that he knocked down. She wasn't moving,getting him thinking if she was still alive or dead. His phone was ringing as he added more speed to the tyres.It was David but he was far from being in the mood to answer. Tony pulled into the hospital,signaling to the nurses to come over immediately.They came with the stretcher and without wasting any time,pushed her in to commence treatment on her. Tony waited behind,bearing in mind that he'd missed the important business appointment that morning. _____ "Excuse me nurse,"Tony approached the nurse who came out from the room the victim was taken into,"how is she doing?" "Calm down sir,we will get back to you"The nurse told him and left for another ward. Just almost immediately she left,the doctor came out.Tony rushed to him. "Doctor.how far?"Tony asked him. "Are you her husband?"He asked in return. "No.I was the one who knocked her down.Is there any problem?"Tony was already worried she might be badly injured internally. "Uhmm,for now,there isn't much problem.We need to see her husband and that's maybe when she regains consciousness"The doctor stressed out. "Can i see her?"Tony asked,the hope of still catching the appointment coming back to him. "Sure.but she shouldn't be disturbed. I think she got into bad hands because she was so unkept and unclad except for the light white material she was wearing but the nurses saw to that.Meanwhile,they are minor papers you have to sign before leaving" Tony opened the door and saw her lying on the bed,with a big drip connected to her arm.He came close to observe her properly before leaving for the appointment,making up his mind to come and check on her as soon as possible.He had given one of the nurses some money to get her some food when she gets up. As Tony beheld her face,he felt a high sense of familarity.Getting even closer,he almost stumbled,realising it was Angela,David's missing wife. "Angela"he called her name softly,running his head over her forehead,feeling so sorry for her. Angela opened her eyes and found Tony sitting close to her. "Tony"She called weakly and noticed him shock greatly,bringing him back from his thoughts. "Angela, are you alright"He seemed relaxed and better,knowing she was getting better. "I feel very weak and hungry.Does david know i'm here?"She asked again. "No.i was about calling him"He replied,dipping hand into his pocket to get his phone. "No.don't call him yet,please"Angela pleaded. "Why? Episode 33 Streams of blood oozed from Ebere's arm as she lay on her foam,motionless. Sonia quicky ran up to her with heart beating so fast and fixed the gun into her hand to make it appear she shot herself,while making sure she avoided blood stains. Sonia shook with fear on seeing the policemen on duty.She had thought they wouldn't be out by now.It was still too early,she thought,with an uncertain feeling all over her.She couldn't put herself together that the taxi driver noticed her fidgeting.She had passed a police checkpoint the previous day with her mother with much confidence that she wouldn't be spotted,but this morning,the feeling was different. "Driver stop!"She finally told the taxi driver,removing her eyes from the policemen to make him believe the reason she asked him to stop was not connected to the police. "You say make i stop?"The young man with a black-sleeveless-top asked,still moving the vehicle. "You deaf? Stop me here!"Sonia yelled,hitting his hands. "See me see wahala o.Sofri tell me nah.You want make we get accident?"He hissed and parked at one side of the road. Sonia produced #200 note from her bag,gave it to him and came down from the taxi without any delay. "Haba.wait make i give you your change na"He reminded Sonia. "Keep the change"She replied vaguely and made her way into the bush. "Mr.man,come down from that motor.You are not going anywhere until they return with her"He told the taxi driver. "Hia! Ololoo, wetin i do na? "i am happy you are alright"her father said,allowing a smile to cross his face for the first time in days. "I saw hell.i was kidnapped"Angela cried. "Kidnapped? Who kidnapped you? Did you see their face?"Her father asked. "i saw their faces.i know them.i do.they wanted to sacrifice me to their god but my God saved me"she cried more. Episode 34 Adaora's phone rang for the third time before she noticed it.She was busy running around searching for Sonia in all the places they had run to for safety earlier. Her own house was not left out.She gathered enough courage to make it there but She was not there.Asking people if they saw her,didn't cross her mind as she quicky dashed off. She peered at the screen of her phone and saw a certain number without name,calling. "Hello"She spoke into the phone. "Yes am i speaking with Sonia's mother?"The voice from the phone asked. "Who are you?"Adaora asked,already overcome by fear.She inserted that new line into her phone recently and Sonia was the only person who knew the number. "Your daughter is here with us at the police station.The one at williams.Division 2"The voice said and hung up. Adaora held her forehead as she felt the sudden headache strike her.She was going to act fast.She was going to do something she never believed she would do. ____ Angela opened her eyes only to find David sitting close to her.Her parents were gone now,the drip on her arm already disconnected.She closed them back and thought for sometime. When she opened them again,David's eyes locked with her's.There was a short moment of silence as they looked into each others eyes until Angela broke it with a slap on David's left cheek.That was the first time she dared raise a finger on him. David's face was expressionless for a while. "I deserve more than that,Angela.You can go on and slap me again if that would make you forgive me"David told her without any trace of anger in his voice. Angela watched him produce a white handky from his pocket to dry the line of tears that betrayed his expressionless face. Angela took her face off him,facing the opposite direction and battling the tears that had already gathered in her eyes.She didn't know when she started sobbing and before she knew it,her face was wet all over. "I am sorry my dear.I am sorry"David consoled her,drying her tears. "Why did you do it? Why? Did you do it with the intention of getting a child from her because i haven't been able to give you one?"Angela asked,amidst sobs,searching his eyes filled with sorrow. "No.Stop talking like that.I just can't explain what came over me.I found myself doing what i never intended doing.I....i ...."The tears in his voice didn't allow him to carry on. "It's ok.Please stop.Don't cry...i don't want to see you cry again.It will only break my heart the more"Angela said,trying really hard to keep herself from crying.She felt his face with her hands and shook her head. How fast his face changed for worst these few days she was away. "I'm sorry.I promise i won't leave you again"She drew his face close and kissed him passionately,tasting the salty fluids running down from his eyes. "I missed you so much.I'd have killed myself if any happened to you"David made her understand before positioning himself very well to have a better taste of that sweet red succulent lips of hers;pure strawberries they sure tasted like. "mhhmmm"Tony cleared his throat,standing right there in the hospital room,disengaging them from their passionate hold.They didn't notice when he entered. "I am very sorry for disturbing you"He apologised,observing their faces to know if they wore annoyance but there was no trace of such.Instead,he saw the smiles on their faces,forcing him to smile too.He went for one of the chairs. "Angela,you haven't told me why you attempted killing my friend.Infact,where were you hidding?"Tony gesticulated. "She must pay for that"David added seriously.Angela smiled and hit him playfully. Angela's face which was lit up with smiles soon turned sad as she imagined what could have happened to her. "I was kidnapped.What pained me most was that someone whom i trusted as a friend had a hand in it.They wanted to sacrifice me to their gods"Angela expressed bitterly. "What?"David couldn't believe his ears. "By now,i should be a dead person if God hadn't saved me.They took my clothes and made we wear one white gown,saying i would be sacrificed this morning"She explained further. "Tell me,which of your friend has a hand in it?"David demanded. "It's...it...it's...Eb...Ebere"Angela stammered. "Unbelievable!,"David shouted,"how could she?" "Lets go after her with the police immediately"Tony suggested. "No no.please don't.What i ask is that you don't let her know i am found"Angela pleaded. "No way.We are going to find her"David objected. "Pleeease.Leave her to me"Angela pleaded again. ___ Angela's mother answered the door.She was preparing another meal for Angela. The person she saw at the door made her take few steps backwards.It was Adaora,her half sister. "What do you want?"She barked at her. "I have come for something more than important.It has to do with your daughter"Adaora said,not moved by Ngozi's harsh words. Ngozi stared at her without another word. Episode 35 With one last look at Adaora,Ngozi opened the door wide for her to enter. Adaora took time observing the wide parlour.She couldn't remember when last she was in that parlour. She forced out a little smile on seeing their father's old picture hanging somewhere on the wall with other frames.Ngozi had begged her husband to allow her put it there so she can always remember him with it. Adaora reached for it and rubbed her hands across it.She developed hatred for him when he gave almost all he had to Ngozi and only but few to her. She turned her face to Ngozi who kept staring at her and went back to where she was sitting. Ngozi went in and soon emerged with a glass of cold water for her.She lifted the glass of water,stole a glance at Ngozi and gulped it down. Ngozi was sitting on the large sofa while Adaora sat on a separate one.Adaora retreated to ponder in her heart whether to unravel the heavy secret.She knew it wasn't something Ngozi would take easy with. "I must start by apologising to you.I have done you harm time without number out of envy.We both know it all started after our father's will was revealed"Adaora began. Ngozi nodded,waiting patiently for her to bring up her daughter issue as she stressed out earlier.What is it about Angela she wants to say? "The reason why i am here is because of your daughter"Adaora revealed again. "Angela?" "Not Angela"Adaora answered. "Then who? How many daughters do i have?"Ngozi was loosing her patience. "I know you have the right to even strangle me to death or report me to the police if you choose to be merciful but i have to say it.She has suffered untold hardship with me.I derived no joy from her suffering.I wished i could give her the better life you would have given her but instead,she work day and night,wearing herself out inorder to get money to buy me drugs......" "Who are you talking about?"Ngozi interrupted her. "Many years ago,a baby girl was taken away from you by some armed men.I had a hand in it"Adaora dropped the bombshell. Ngozi stood up on her feet with eyes as sharp as the sun,coming close to her. Adaora stood up too,not to fight her back if she comes for a fight but to defend herself from her if she does so.And just like she guessed,Ngozi fell upon her like the falling olympus,tearing and pulling at her clothes and hair. Mr.uwa returned just then and beheld the unholy sight.He quickly drew out his wife.Adaora made no attempt of retaliation and it came clear to him that Ngozi was the one fighting her.Though she was the one shedding tears. "What is going on here?"He demanded,looked at his wife for an explanation but when he saw she wasn't going to say anything,turned to Adaora,wondered what might have prompted her coming to his house in the first place. Adaora composed herself together.Those punches really gave her great pains. "I need you to undestand and forgive me,"Adaora drawled, "Your daughter's maid is your daughter but now,she is in a situation that i cannot help her... but you can.You can stop her from going to prison with your wealth and influence" Ngozi felt her heart ache.Heat suddenly filled her body.That young woman,her daughter? The car pulled up in front of the police station.Mr.uwa,his wife and Adaora came down and went inside the station. One of the policemen took them to Sonia,who was surprised to see Angela's parents there.She thought they must have heard what she did. Mrs.Ngozi held her face and looked into her eyes.Those eyes looked exactly like Angela's.Her lips look exactly like her own lips.She fought the threatening tears and locked Sonia in a thight embrace,keeping her heart racing. Angela couldn't grab anything,her confusion got to it's climax. "Mom what is happening?"She turned to Adaora. "Relax.We are going to make sure you come of here.We are going to hold talks with the necessary personnels.We are also going to contact that lady behind all these"Mr.uwa assured her. "I shot her this morning"Sonia whispered to them. "You shouldn't have done that.You are not a murderer"Mr.uwa broke the silence Sonia words created. "Dont worry about anything.We are going to see if she's dead or alive"Ngozi held her close again,leaving her in the wildest of imaginations,"oh your hair looks ruffled"Ngozi produced a comb from her handbag and ran it severally over Sonia's natural hair,making sure some of the hair got caught in the comb. After that,she left with her husband. "Mom?"Sonia looked into her mother's eyes for some sort of explanation. "One thing i want you to know is that i am only human.but what i am doing now is for your own good.Don't worry,you would soon get to understand"Adaora said,trying to hide the guilt in her eyes. As soon as Mr.uwa left the hospital with his wife,he brought out his phone and dialled the family doctor's line. "Helo sir" "Doctor Ben.I am coming over. I need you to run a DNA test for me" "Alright sir" "My daughter..its time to come home"Ebere heard the voice.She saw her,calling on her.It took her sometime to realise it was her mother. Oh,how she missed the woman.The cold hands of death snatched the woman away from her when she was still very young,leaving her under the care of her relations. "Come my daughter.Come"She smiled again,smiling pleasantly. "I am coming mommy.I am coming"Ebere said happily,running up to her. Ebere felt someone tapping her.She opened her eyes only to find herself on the hospital bed.She had been day dreaming.One of her house neighbour was beside her.She was the one who tapped her,hearing her talk in her dream. Ebere winced and moaned painfully as she tried to shift on the bed.Her eyes darted to her shoulder which was dressed with bandages and white cloth.The memories of how Sonia had shot her flashed through her. She dropped her raised head back on the pillow. "I'm sorry ok? The doctor said you will get better.They have removed the bullet already"her neighbour told her. Ebere nodded.She couldn't believe she was still alive. Just then,she saw Angela's parents,Adaora and another neighbour of hers enter the room.Her heart skipped a beat.She thought they have come to finish her up for having a hand in the kidnapp of their precious daughter. At first,Mrs Ngozi couldn't believe it was Ebere,the only good friend of her daughter,who kidnapped Angela and even went as far as wanting to kill her.Angela had pleaded with them not to involve the police.However,they have found it as a perfect opportunity to persuade Ebere to retrace all her steps against Sonia. Ebere eyed the woman who brought them to her,calling her 'over sabi sabi' in her mind but the woman was not to blame afterall. Her fears were clearly written all over head as she fidgeted uncomfortably on the bed. Mr.uwa cleared his throat and asked Ebere if she could tell her two friends to excuse them. Ebere signaled to them to please give them a little privacy. "Why do you want to kill my daughter?"Ngozi asked her with distate. "It's between the both of us"Ebere answered shamefully,confused about their visit,which looked like a peaceful one.How could they be easy with her when she tried killing her daughter. "What actually do you have against Sonia?"Mr uwa asked. "It was between the both of us too but now,its known.She is murderer"Ebere replied. "What exactly did you tell the police?"Adaora threw another question at her. "Just exactly what i said.She is a murderer"She maintained. "What evidence have you given them?"Mr. Uwa asked her. "I haven't given them any evidence yet,but i sure have one.Sonia cannot deny it"Ebere answered him. "You must withdraw that case immediately or else,you would also face the law for kidnapping my daughter"Mr.uwa threatened her. Ebere kept quiet,different thoughts racing through her.She felt empty and miserable.How was she going to live again,knowing she tried to kill her friend but failed? The thought of getting her again for the 'dibia' never crossed her mind. She soon heard herself sniffing.From simple sniffing,she bursted into a loud cry. "Just look at me...am i not getting older by the day? Are my mates not married? I am 32...will any man ever..."Ebere coughed in between her loud sobs.Her rate at which her tears flowed could make one believe they would fill a bucket. "Some one told me it was Angela who told mike about my lifestyle,telling him the ones i did and the ones i didnt do.I was forced to believe because she swore with her life that she was telling me the truth.I decided to take revenge on her"Ebere cried,regretting everything she did. "How could you believe such a story?" "please forgive me.I am sorry.help me plead with Angela to forgive me.tell her i am sorry.i still want to be her friend.she never did me any harm.I will do whatever you asked me to do about Sonia.I will...."she couldn't continue due to her excessive sobs. Ngozi went close to her and tried comforting her. "i just want to have peace of mind.I will tell them the whole thing was a mistake,Sonia did nothing to me.I will try and make sure the police releases her,"She assured them,"Please tell Angela that i am sorry" Mr and mrs Uwa took turns looking at the DNA result.They still found it hard to believe it.After twenty three good years. "Mom,Dad,is that a letter"Angela shocked them,standing before them but she didn't get a good view of the report.Her father quickly folded it and filed it bank into the envelope it came with. "It's nothing my dear.Don't worry"Her father smiled at her,while her mother nodded in agreement with her father. "I have to get going.Firstly,i am visiting Ebere.i have made up my mind to.I told David about it.She has been calling me on phone but i refused answering"Angela said,hugged them goodbye and left. Episode 36 Ebere was in her room when the knock came.She slowly walked to the door,clenching her teeth in pains.Her shoulder still gave her great pains.She managed to open the door with one hand,only to find Angela standing there. Ebere was short of words on seeing her.She thought Angela would never have anything to do with her again.She was even planning to go over to her home and apologise to her. "I am sorryyy Angel.I am sorry"She begged,falling at her feet.Angela felt her tear drops on her feet.She soon saw herself shedding tears too. "It's okay.Get up"Angela helped her up and supported her into the room. Ebere felt a great inner peace.Her joy knew no bounds. "I know that i am not worthy to call myself your friend again.I dont deserve you.Inspite of all you have been doing for me.From our school days up till now..." "shhhh.It's alright.lets call everything that bit in the night mosquitoes.Let by gones to by gones.No matter what happens,we are friends for life"Angela said,not even believing she was saying that.Ebere's unstoppable tears came again as she fell into Angela's arms sobbing. A knock came on the door.Ebere told Angela unnecessarily that it was one of her neighbours who has been rendering help to her. "The door is open"She said,referring to the person at the door,expecting the expected neighbour to come in but nobody came in. The knock came again. Ebere tried to get up with the pains to open the door but Angela offered to open it. When she did,whom she saw made her almost loose balance as he kept staring at her.She didn't know how to feel at all.She stole a look at Ebere,barring the person from looking inside the room with her body. "who is it?"Ebere asked. Angela opened the door wide and stood at one corner for Ebere to see for herself. For some seconds,Ebere couldn't figure out whom it was.She stood up from the foam and came closer. Then,she saw him. It was MIKE,standing there with two hands in his pockets. Ebere came closer to the door,to make sure her eyes weren't deceiving her. For few minutes,nobody said anything.Ebere took time staring at him from head to toe.His appearance still speaks volumes about his wealth. Angela too was surprised;after all these years? "Have you come to add salt to my injuries? Have you come to scratch my healing wounds? What do you want? Just leave"Ebere produced her two hands and pushed him,forgetting that hands would hurt.She let out a loud cry.Her arm ached,giving her the worst pain she ever felt since the incident took place. She bent down and supported the wounded hand with the other. Angela rushed up to her to support her.Ebere's push came all of a sudden.She could have stopped her if she had seen it coming. "Why did you do that? You shouldn't have done so"Angela reprimanded her. Mike came in.He wasn't angry by the way he was pushed but he pitied Ebere.The way she was crying truly showed she was passing through great pains.'or could it be that his presence also added to the pains?'He thought.His spirit tempted him to touch her hand,to give her some comfort but he held himself for the meantime.She might do the worse. "What happened to you?"He asked,showing great concern. "It's none of your business! Just leave!"Ebere barked,pointing at the door for him. "Baby!Keep quiet!Just keep quiet.I guess you don't know what you are doing"Angela hushed her and turned to Mike,"I'm sorry mike.She's just going through a hard time" Mike nodded. "Baby why don't you hear me out first?"Mike said,rather asked,looking at Ebere's eyes pleadingly. Ebere hissed and took her eyes off him. "Baby.you must listen to him"Angela said. Mike went down on his kneels,keeping his pride aside,to the astonishment of the Angela and even Ebere,though she concealed it.Getting Ebere back was the only thing on his mind.The only mission he has to accomplish. "Baby i am sorry.I have come to realise that you are my missing rib.I am incomplete without you.Ever since i left you,i have been to hell and i'm back.I realised that you are like a file in my heart that can never be erased.I hope there is still a place for me in your heart.Please Baby...forgive me and accept me back into your life..I know i broke your heart and left you with great pains....."He paused and reached for his handky.He wouldn't dare cry in front them for the man that he was but a drop of tear which tricked down from his eyes had betrayed him. Ebere looked away,crying her heart out at the inside. Angela who couldn't stand it,went up to him,helping him get on his feet. "It's okay.Just stop....please"She urged him. "It's been four years Mike.Four years.Just few days to our wedding,you broke up with me.Tearing me apart emotionally.I fell sick Mike.Yes,I almost ran mad.why..why?"Ebere wept. Mike found the courage to come closer to her.He held her,drying her tears with his own cloth. "I am so sorry.I will never do that again"Mike kissed her forehead,gently drawing her to himself.Oh how soft it still was;that softness that gave him relief whenever he felt it. Angela smiled and winked at Ebere,who showed a little happiness. "We are going to arrange for our marriage without wasting anytime"Tony whispered to Ebere.She smiled and nodded.Overwhelmed with the sudden joy that filled her in.She still found it hard to believe this was happening.After all this years. Mike searched for her lips,kissing them warmly,trying to ease her pains.After sometime,he stopped.Ebere wished he didn't stop because its really been a long time he got such a true kiss from some who truly loves her. Angela clapped in ecstacy,smiling happily. "Wow wow wow. I am so happy Baby.I cant wait"Angela rushed her words and embraced both of them together. ----- "The police is not releasing the girl in question because of anything else if not for the fact that the person who brought up the report has explained to us that everything was a mistake.Not because you are my friend.We fined her enermously,though we are still going to investigate further.We are releasing her but if we later find out she was responsible,the law would not hesitate to take action"The inspector of police told Mr.uwa "I know that too well.The law doesn't understand friendship.Thank you very much"Mr uwa shook hands with him. Episode 37 Angela was lying on the sofa,watching a programme on the television when David entered.She had kept her business on hold for the time being. She walked up and welcomed him. "Honey,i have been feeling somehow for days now"She complained. "How have you been feeling?"David asked jokingly,smiling and staring at her. "I'm serious,"Angela made a face,"i think i should visit a doctor" "I am a doctor.Visit me.Or let me examine you"David playfully touched almost all part of her body,examining it,leaving Angela wondering why he's acting so funny. He had been acting funny and pampering her like an egg lately. "I have detected the problem"He announced. Angela laughed. "It's like something good happened today"She guessed,rolling her eyes. "I will show you"He whispered and took her off the ground in his arms like a baby,running into the bedroom.Angela only laughed out loud as he carried her.Her husband has gone crazy lately. David landed her on the bed and produced the pregnancy report the doctor gave to him. "This is the result"He handed it over to her. Angela hastily opened the envelope and brought out the paper in it,reading it silently. "Who is Angela Dike?"she asked. "Angela its Mike"Mike responded with a shaky voice at the other end.Angela noticed the abnormality in his voice and sat up. "Mike what's the problem?"She asked,hearing him sob. "Angelaa.Baby is dead.Ebere is dead"Mike cried. "What?!"Angela screamed in disbelief.Her hands were trembling and she lost hold of her phone.The phone fell to the ground,with the sobbing voice of Mike still coming from it. "What's going on?"David asked. Angela quickly picked up the phone. "Mike what are you saying? What happened? She wasn't sick"Angela jabbed,trying not to believe it but equally aware that death isn't something anybody would joke with. "We just returned from sharing our wedding invitation cards and she said she wanted to rest and laid down sleeping.Later on, in her sleep i heard her pleading for her life,saying she would bring the lady for the sacrifice.Before i ran to her to wake her up,she was no gone"Mike cried like a baby on the phone. "Oh noo.God whyyy? Whyyy now that something good is about coming her way?"Angela pulled at her hair,her ever ready tears wetted her face. "Ebere is dead"She told the inquisitive David who kept demanding to know what happened,and rushed to her wardrobe to change up. "I'm coming with you"David called after her as she hurriedly made for the door. David's car pulled into Mike's compound.Angela didn't even wait for him to park well before she came down from the car,leaving the door open. People were already there.Some were trooping in in-twos and threes while some were going out. Mike was being comforted at one corner by his friends. "Where is Baby?"Angela rushed at Mike,who was more hurt than anyone else.He was crying and shedding tears.Something he couldn't remember when last he did. "Take it easy,"One of Mike's friend urged her,"she is still inside.The ambulance is yet to come" Angela ran inside to see her.She wanted to see for herself before believing.She wanted to see her and tell her "Baby,wake up Angel is here" if she ignores her,that would tell her that it was really happening.A reality,not a dream. But when she shook her,calling her all the sweet names she new and she just lay there,speechless,cold shivers ran through her.Ebere was stiff.She felt she was shaking a log of wood,not her own Ebere.It then dawned on her that she was gone.Gone for life. Angela threw herself to the ground,crying out her eyes.She couldn't believe Ebere was gone.Gone to the land of no return.Forever. David,who followed her every move came and consoled her,seeing it purely on her that she was truly hurt by the demise of her friend. "No amount of crying can bring her back now.Don't throw yourself to the ground again please.Have you forgotten that you are pregnant?"David easily pulled her up from the ground. Few minutes later,the ambulance came and Ebere's corpse was taken to the mortuary.Angela watched with great fear,in David's arms,how Ebere's corpse was taken down from the ambulance. She looked into the large room and saw uncountable number of dead people lying there.Soon,her friend would join them. She saw the little note written at the entrace which read"WE WERE ONCE LIKE YOU.ONE DAY,YOU WILL BE LIKE US" Angela shook her head but it was the real fact. ____ "shine bright like a diamond" "shine bright like a diamond" Angela was still brooding in the bedroom when her phone rang.She ignored it.Since David was now at home,waiting for call up from his company due to the suspension he got for missing work for days without asking for permission,he offered to do the cooking and made her promise him should would not cry again.He never expected such a sad incident to happen today of all days.Today that his wife discovered she was pregnant.He expected she would be full of happiness and smiles but things had turned the opposite way. He had asked Angela the essence of crying for someone whom attempted killing her but the question kind of got her angry.Poor David had to apologise. The phone did not stop ringing.Angela wiped her tears and reached for it.It was her father. "Good afternoon Dad"She spoke into the phone,trying really hard to make her voice sound normal. Episode 38 ----****--- Angela entered the room with David,who insisted he must go with her.Her parents were seated in the parlour with Adaora and Sonia,to her surprise.She stared at her,that passion she had to kill her was no longer there but the hatred still lingered. Her mood worsened.If she knew the reason her father called her had something to do with Sonia and her mother,she could her figured out a reason not to come. Sonia shifted closely to her mother,seeing Angela and David.She carefully avoided their eyes,still wondering why Angela's parents had brought her to their house.Could they have brought her to apologise to Angela and her husband so they can accept her back.She was ready to apologise and confess to them if that be the case but she was never ready to continue working with them anymore.There was no way she can stand their faces everyday,knowing what she had done earlier. "Mom,Dad,what's going on?"Angela asked after greeting them. "Come my daughter,"Her father called her to sit by his side,"My son,let her sit with me here"He jokinly referred to David who smiled. After a short silence,making Angela look at everybody in confusion,Adaora began. First with apologies on what she did to her half sister Ngozi,out of envy,after their father died. Angela's eyes opened wide in disbelief.She was related to her mother? Sonia too,stole glances at her mother in confusion. Adaora finally said it all while Mr.uwa brought out the DNA result,handing it to Angela,thinking she would be so happy knowing that she has a sister. Sonia shifted from her mother,her mother?,standing some distance away from her. She stared at Adaora,who bowed her head low,supporting it with her hands.She was shedding tears. Her eyes darted to Angela who was also looking at her and their eyes locked. Several thoughts and questions running through their mind. David too,became weak all of a sudden.This shouldn't be happening. "Dad tell me its not true,"Angela stared at her father and held her mom,"mom?" They had thought she would be happy to hear that she has a sister.The sister she always wished she had.Her mother wondered what Angela was thinking as she started shedding tears,tears of which knew were not of joy.This is something she waited so long for.To hear someday,that she has a sister.Why does it feel so wrong? Why the tears? "Sonia,please forgive me.These are your parents.Angela is your sister.I regret everything i have done"Adaora pleaded in tears coming to Sonia who was taking her steps backwards,to avoid her touch. This revelation left her with mixed feelings.So she had been sleeping with her sister's husband. She remembered all the years she spent with Adaora in ignorance and how the woman had played down all her efforts.She had been right all these years,thinking that Adaora might not be her biological mother due to the way she was treated by her. "You have the right to be angry with me.Please Sonia,find it in your heart to forgive me"Adaora pleaded. "Don't touch me"Sonia fought as Adaora came holding her. "Is there something we need to know?"Mr.uwa asked,glancing at Angela,Sonia and David who looked disturbed. For the first time,Sonia stared deeply at her said parents.The looks on their faces showed they were ready to accept her as their daughter.That must have been the reason why they saved her from facing the law for the crime she committed. But the look on Angela's face was different. Sonia shook her head,muttering some words to herself.She must end it all.She cannot live with the shame.Her fate had always played against her.It seemed life truly swore never to be fair to her. "No no. I am going to kill myself"Sonia said loudly,running out of the house.Everyone took after her immediately but she was determined to end it all.To rest from all the troubles she has been through. She saw the cars speeding to and fro at the main road and started running towards that direction. "Sonia!" "Don't do it Sonia" "I forgive you Sonia.You are my sister please stop" Sonia paid deaf ears to them.Her mind was made up. With a proper calculation,she ran into the main road and stood still with her eyes closed.The screeching sound of brakes from a black toyota was heard after knocking Sonia,sending her to the ground. Episode 39 ****::::::::::.**** *AT THE GRAVE YARD* The ground was wet with tears and mourning. David held Angela,comforting her as she stared at the grave,crying bitterly,wishing she could come back to life to spend more time with them.She had forgiven and forgotten whatever wrong she did her "I will never forget the good times we had.I have known you for a long time.You were my best friend.A friend like no other. Even in my next world,i would still want you to be my friend again and again. I love you Baby. We shall meet again to part no more"Angela couldn't control her tears as she dropped the flower she was holding in Ebere's grave. Mike was affected the most.Words were not enough to say how he felt.His precious pearl,had been taken away.He never knew if can ever find someone who will truly love him like she did.He blamed himself for abandoning her in the first place because of the rumours he heard. His eyes were almost empty from all the tears he shed. Sonia,with her bandaged wounds, sniffed at regular intervals.She feared Ebere still bore grudges against her before her death,though her sister Angela had told her Ebere bore no grudge against her. "For the short time i have known you,i discovered you did most of the things you did out of frustration.But you are a good person. Rest in peace Ebere"Sonia dropped her own flower on her grave. Mr.and mrs.uwa also expressed their goodbye message to their daughter's best friend,Ebere. They knew Angela would be greatly affected by her death because right from their daughter's school days,they were more than friends. Mike bursted into fresh tears again.David had to console him,telling him that God will provide her another woman. When everyone was set to leave,Angela squatted by the grave in tears,refusing to leave with them. Sonia walked up to her and helped her up. "It's okay sister.I believe she is in a better place now"Sonia dried her tears with her own clothes and embraced her. Half way to the car,Angela bursted into a new cry. "Oooh.Its ok now.Please stop crying.I don't want my baby boy to become a 'cry cry' baby when he is born"David said,smiling and bent his back in front of her,to the admiration of others.Mike was already gone"Enter my back let me carry you" Angela stopped crying.She soon found herself smiling,despite the tears she was still shedding. "Which baby boy? Don't start again o.Its a girl.My baby is a girl not a boy"Angela managed to say before entering David's back,who eagerly carried her gently to the car. "Aren't you going to open the door for me?"Angela asked,making a face. "With all pleasure,"David opened the door and she entered,"Yes! The queen is in" He shut the door,entered through the driver's door,waved her inlaws goodbye and sped away. Sonia and her parents watched the car speed off till it was out of sight. They got into their own car and slowly drove away. The better days are still ahead. The new rains will come down soon. Sometimes,destiny has its own ways which we find questionable but time comes in this life when we are left with no options than to accept the things we can't change. Que sera,sera. *THE END*
