No one knew what was destroying the lion dynasty. Two great lions, five lioness, a cub died within the short space of two days. Perhaps, the most disastrous was the untimely death of the lion king. He hit the dust in same manner as his kinsmen; going to bed and never waking. These recuring deaths have been a national disaster. Speculations of various kinds have been raised. Oracles consulted, wise fellows sought after. Sacrifices have been made to the gods and goddesses of the 7th river. No reasonable answer have been given. The animals were tired, worn-out and sobber. There was nothing they could do. Members of the 'wise council' staggered out of their meeting hall looking like totally helpless creatures. The tortoise, a member of the councel stepped on the palace balcony,
a vast majority of saudre citizens below.
He breath out slowly as if his speech depended on air outflow. He knew he must be bold to address saudrelites, he had to somehow let go the dam of fear and grieve off his heart.
Tortoise: i understand our hearts all are full of grieve. I would have suggested we rest for the day, but the matter at hand demand urgent attention. Its not about finding the cause of our predicament. We've tried that measure, it didn't work for us. Now, its about how to solve our problem. We all know the paritans are staging a siege against us. As a matter of fact, spy reports show they are on a very close radius.
(in the animal kingdom, spies were usually the eagles) The wise council have thought it wise that we have a new leader, as soon as possible.
Crowd: *cheers*
the voice of the elephant was most heard from the crowd, he said,
'we can't be led by a tortoise!!'
crowd: yes! Yes! Yes!
The tortoise felt pangs of anger, he masked it properly then said:
tortoise: do you think i could lead an entire nation? I don't think so. You are to vote your leader! The wise council respects your decision.
Two other members of the council addressed the animals, instructing them on how to vote
about an hour later, three contestants emerged strong: the ant, elephant and a tiger. It wasn't surprising that an ant scaled through. Lower animals felt their voices needed to be heard, one way to it was to vote an ant into power. But tortoise was skeptical, how on earth can an ant lead an entire kingdom? Madness! He knew he must stop it before it becomes a historic mistake. He's considered the wisest, its his duty to decide whats best for the kingdom. Elephants a very arrogant, he wouldn't let an elephant rule. Leaving Tiger, who was his best choice. So, tortoise took to bribery in exchange for votes. To the monkey he gave banana. To the donkey he gave hay. In same order, he gave each animal their favorite meals. The tortoise chose wisely, going to the greedy animals. They all agreed to vote the tiger.
Few hours after, the vote results were announced, pronouncing Tiger as king. There was no time to celebrate as the paritan army were closing in, led by a paritan lion.
The tiger quickly mobilised a list of able fighters and set out for war. The battle continued for four days with the paritans having an upper hand . Ants and other lower animals were absent but nobody really cared.
On the fourth day, tortoise decided to infiltrate the enemy camp, perhaps to find ways of weakening them. He crawled as stealthily as he could, withdrawing into his shell occasionally, using rocks as camouflage. He stopped behind a cave when he heard a familiar voice. It was the Tiger's.
Tiger: everything's going as planned, even at a more faster pace.
Paritan lion: good.
Tiger: your men should retreat. When all saudrelites are killed, who would we rule in our future empire?
Paritan lion: we can't permit any loophole. We have the make sure saudre warriors are properly crushed.
The tortoise screamed almost subconsciously. He couldn't believe Tiger was a conspirator. He couldn't believe Tiger could sacrifice the lives of his own people.
The scream disclosed him. He was captured and taken to the paritan king.
The tiger looked shock and amazed when their gaze met. There was silence for several minutes.
Tortoise: i can't believe you betray us! How greedy!
Tiger: you speak as if you're some sort of saint.
Lion: enough! Time you prove your loyalty, mr. Tiger. I want the tortoise dead, by your hands!!!
Just then the room was filled with dark smoke. It was a cave made of dry hay, it was burning on the outside.
The guards let go of tortoise. The helped the paritan king out.
Tiger and tortoise ran out in separate ways.
They met the worst outside. The supposed enemy camp was surrounded by saudre armies singing victory songs.
The paritan king and his guards were greatly outnumbered. It was easy to capture them.[/b]
