Funny question .. Fridge and refrigerator are two DIFFERENT words that only share same synonym. Ur question is kinda baseless or let me say wild cux just as asking why "Male" is being spelt like that and "Man" retains it spellings too or why "car" and "motorcar" mean the same thing but still are two different words.
