After all celebrations yesterday, something struck my mind, it was a story told by a guest speaker on my graduation ceremony(from high school)
and i want to share it with you... This is how it goes
'Once upon a time in the land of ogbadigbo, there lived a great hunter whose name happen to be Iliya. In that same village was a blind man, this man was known to be a smart and wise man in Ogbadigbo. To the extent that people even bring their cases to him for his wise judgement. His name is Mr. John.
On one fateful day, mr. John was sitting under the huge and richly branched iroko tree behind his house, and Mr. Iliya came by, this discussion took place between them:
Iliya:greetings to you John, the wise one.
John:Iliya is that you?
Iliya:yes...indeed you are good at recognizing voices, he said jokingly. Ehm...John? I want to go hunting, and i was thinking if you could go with me!
John:you must be kidding! You know i've lost my sight and her you are telling me to go hunting with you, can i really differentiate between a sheep and a wolf in my state?
Iliya:there is no problem, i'll guide you on the path to tread, and don't worry hunting won't be a problem, i just want to be in you company for a while.
John: ok... ok! you win, so shall we go now?
John and Iliya soon found their way to the farm, though it was not an easy task to lead the blind man.
'Take this trap' Iliya said as he proceded to educate John on what to do. After about and hour, they both have gotten a game each. 'i think we should get going now' John said breaking the littld silence. 'ok then take this pan and put you game in it and lets go' Iliya replaid.
As the two 'hunters' left the farm, they talked about alot of things, but something happened on the way, 'let me see what this blind man have succeeded in catching'. Iliya said, smiling to himself. On discovering that John's catch was bigger and better than his own, he decided to steal it. 'how would a blind man notice' he thought. So gently and swiftly, he swaped his game with John's.
Mr John on his own part noticed the little drama going on but as an act of wisdom, decided to keep calm, and they continued their journey while discussing a whole lot of things. Iliya got more interested in the chat they are having and wanted it to last as lon as it can. he therefore changed the topic, after seeing that John was not interested in kingmaking which hitherto was their poin of discussion.
Iliya:what do you think is the brain behind the present state of our country, Nigeria?
John:because alot of people are doing what you did to me a while ago.
Iliya:what is this man talking about? Oh no! He noticed my greed, i must do something now. (Iliya said this to himself).
Quietly he swaped the games again, but this time he gave back to the blind man what was his, and he(Iliya) took possession of his own little catch, though abit sad but wanted to protect his reputation. Again Iliya asked:
Iliya:what do you think is the solution?
John:If only everybody would do what you did!!!
The end
*******
lesson: don't treat people based on what you see in them treat everyone equally, and don't take what is not yours, in other words, be content
