"Over my dead body for you to marry him", her father said. Why? she asked. "Young lady, go to your room, this conversation has ended", he said with a final note. "But dad", she tried to speak. "To your room", he cautioned. She headed to her room and slammed the door behind her. "Why can't daddy understand? she asked rhetorically.
Tamara is the only child of her father. Her mum died giving birth to her. Because of the love her father had for the mum, he never remarried. He showered all his love on Tamara. He has given her everything, allowed her to make her choices. This is the first time he is disagreeing with a choice she has made and this is the one thing she really needs her dad to get her back on. She loves Joshua (Josh) beyond words and he can give her the world in a heart beat. Let's give him some time, he will come around", Josh said as they met. "My dad, he is so stubborn, he won't", she told him. "He is your dad, you know him better than anyone else, talk to him", he said. "I tried but he won't even listen", she told him. "Then you make him listen", he said. "If he doesn't, then we will be left with my option", she said. "What? Elope together", he said. "Yes", she replied. "I have told you before, that's not even an option", he told her. Are you trying to kill your father? "Of course not", she replied. "You know you are the air he breathes, are you trying to take his breathe away? he asked. "I'm just confused", she admitted. "I understand. You know I'll do anything for you, I would make the world stand still for you if that's possible and there is nothing more I want in this world than to make you my wife but I'm not going to do that by giving your father a heart attack. He is just being a loving dad and he is the reason you are this amazing woman that I love so much. He might not think I am good enough for his daughter but tell me what father does", he told her. "So what are we going to do? she asked him. "We will figure it out but I tell you what. We will do it the right way", he said. We will be alright. "I hope so", she said. As she walked into the living room, "hi dad, you're home early", she said. "Hi dear, I got off work early", he replied. You look gorgeous, you went out? "I just hanged out with some friends", she told him. "That's nice, how did it go? he asked. "It was fun", she replied. There is something I need to talk to you about. "Sure! But first, fix something for me to eat, your dad is hungry", he said. "You got it dad", she said. "That's my golden jewel", he said. "Be right back", she said. After dinner, the dad asked. "What was it you want to talk to me about? "Josh", she replied. "What about him? he asked. " Dad, I love him and I want to marry him ", she said bluntly. "We've talked about this already", the dad told her. "Dad, please", she said. "I don't have anything against that young man but there is something off about him and I'm concerned about your safety", he said. "You're just being sentimental, you are blinded by your love for him", he told her. "I'm not", she said. "Marriage is a lifelong commitment, it's like life imprisonment, so you need to choose your prison mate well", he told her. "And he is the best prison mate one can have", she said. "Are you even considering the family he comes from? he asked. "He is different", she replied. "What makes him different? he asked again. "Josh has a good heart unlike his father, he is the most compassionate person I have ever met", she replied. "You know there is a bit of his father in him because he is his father's son", he said. "But he is not like him", she said. "You know Kenneth (Kenneth is Joshua's father) used to be my best friend, you know what he did to me, I don't need to tell you the story", he said. "Joshua is not his father, dad please! Don't make Josh pay for his father's sins", she said. "I can't forget the pain his father caused me and seeing him brings it all over again", he said. I trusted his father with my life and he almost took it away from me and now you want me to trust his son with my daughter, I can't have you anywhere near that family. "Dad please", she said. "Can't do it", he told her with a note of finality. She went to her room and cried herself to sleep.
FEW WEEKS LATER
"Are you okay? the dad asked her when he saw her not looking well. I know you have been moody lately but you look pale. "Dad, I don't feel so well", she replied. Why didn't you tell me? he asked. "I thought it just minor", she replied. "You need to see the doctor", he said. Let me get my car key. He went to his room to get it but on his return, he met her unconscious on the floor. He flew to her side, tried to wake her up but to no avail. He quickly rushed her to the hospital. He called in for an emergency. She was rushed in immediately because the doctor has been their long time family friend. It suddenly hit him to calk Josh and in no time, he was there. "Good day sir", Joshua greeted as he walked up to him. "How are you, son? he replied. "I'm okay", Josh said. How is she? "The doctor haven't told me anything, nurses have been moving to and fro, still nothing", he told him. I think I might have a panic attack. "Take it easy sir, she will be fine", Josh said. We wouldn't want you having a panic attack, that will not be good for her. "I don't know what is taking them so long", he lamented. Just then the doctor walked in. They both asked, how is she? "She is okay", the doctor replied. She has haemorrhage and her blood count is low. "What are you saying, doctor? dad asked. "She needs blood transfusion and fast" the doctor replied. "Get on with it then", dad said. "Ummh! Her blood type is kind of rare, we don't have it in our blood bank", doctor said. "How about the nearest blood bank? dad asked. "We've called but they don't have either", doctor replied. "What am I going to do? Our blood don't match", dad lamented. "I could give her blood", Josh said. This took them aback because at some point, they didn't even remember he was there. "No! You can't", dad replied. You are very tensed right now and that won't be suitable. "I want to", he replied. "You have to have a matching blood before you can give her blood", doctor said. "I'm a universal donor", he told the doctor. "Even at that, we still need to carry out some tests to make sure your blood is fit for transfusion", doctor said. "Then what are you waiting for? he asked. "Come with me", the doctor said. "But", dad tried to say something. "I'll be back" Josh told him. Both of them head out. The tests were run and the transfusion was done. Josh came back a while later. "Are you okay? dad asked. "I'm very fine", Josh replied. The nurse said I need some rest, aside that I'm perfectly fine. "I should take you home to get some rest", dad said. "No! I want to be here when she wakes up", Josh said. "Should I get you anything then? dad asked. "I'm fine", Josh said. "I can't thank you enough, you saved my daughter's life", dad said. "Tamara is very important to me, it's the least I could do for her", Josh said. "Thank you very much", dad said. Let me know if you need anything. "Okay sir", Josh said. The doctor came and told them, she is stable now. They can see her but they should try not to wake her up. As she slowly opened her eyes, everything was blurred and gradually became clear. There was her dad and Josh. Nice for two of them to be in the same place because of her. "Oh dear! You're awake", dad said. "You scared the living daylights out of me", Josh said. "Sorry about that", she said. "Thank you, son", dad said to Josh. "It's nothing sir", Josh replied. Let me tell the doctor she's awake. I'll be right back. As he left, the dad said to her, "how do you feel? "Better", she replied. It feels good to see you and Josh talking. "I have nothing against the young man but the family he comes from", he said. "Josh is a very good person and I promise you won't be disappointed", she said pleadingly. "How about I give him a chance", he said. "Thanks dad", she said happily. You're the best.
Few months later Tamara and Josh got married and they were blessed with four kids (the boys and two girls )
