Episode 1
I slowly walked down the hallways, my
arms clutching two textbooks that my past
classes had given me as I made my way
through the talking students who were all
headed towards lunch.
Everyone looked so at ease, so used to
being in a lifestyle of riches and happiness,
but me?
I was freaking out.
So far, I’d managed to trip over the stairs
(twice), hit my head against my locker
( four times ), and smack my teacher by
accident with the whiteboard eraser as I
went to turn around (thank God, only once
for that ).
I was beyond embarrassed but I was just
glad that now I could eat in peace and not
worry about choking on my food in front
of others since I would go to the library
and do so alone.
Deciding to stop by my locker, I made a
turn and counted down the numbers that
labeled the lockers before I found mine,
doing its combination quickly before
shoving my books inside and slamming it
shut.
I then proceeded to brush the imaginary
dust off of my plaid skirt that all the girls
were required to wear and straightened
my white, collared shirt before taking a
deep breath and heading into the
cafeteria.
As soon as I entered, it was chaos.
Loud laughter filled the air, and I watched
with wide eyes as girls chatted together
and boys shoved each other’s shoulders,
goofing off about stupid stuff that
probably were significant to them.
Students were getting into the rather large
line and buying their lunch while the ones
that weren’t were unpacking whatever
their maids had made for them.
I stood there, wondering for a moment if I
would ever be able to fit in. After all, I
wasn’t a billionaire’s daughter or son like
they were.
Sighing, I strolled towards the line and
grabbed a tray, making sure not to slip on
any of the food that had dropped to the
floor before flashing a bright smile to the
lunch lady who was plopping some pasta
onto my plate.
I went through the rest of the line with no
trouble and found myself feeling proud.
This was one of the first times in history
where I’d managed not to do something
stupid.
With a satisfactory grin, I turned, making
my way towards the exit doors when
someone stuck their foot out and caused
me to fall face-forward.
– Into my pasta.
For a moment, I laid there, stunned. And
then mortification settled in and I hurriedly
sat up, wiping my chin of the tomato sauce
before I blinked my lashes upward to see a
laughing table full of boys and girls, the
one girl at the corner with her phone out
as she took a video.
I could only gape at her.
“What? Have no words, newbie?” she
challenged, and I found my cheeks flushing
in embarrassment.
I knew I’d spoken too soon.
Deciding not to respond, I scrambled to my
feet but as I did so, I managed to slip on
some of the sauce that was on the floor
and the next thing I knew, I was falling
face-forward again.
Except this time, I landed on a boy who’d
been standing in front of me.
I felt my hands connect to a muscular chest
before I felt my lips press against
something soft and warm…
Oh my God.
I was kissing the boy underneath me.
Horrified, I jerked away and crawled off
the poor guy, my hand flying up to cover
my mouth in shock while the guy blinked
furiously before sitting up, his gaze locking
with mine.
There, sitting on the floor next to me with
sauce remnants from my shirt now
smeared on him was a gorgeous Adonis,
with deep blue eyes and thick, dark brown
hair that held bits of pasta in it.
He looked stunned before he shook
himself out of his daze, glancing up at the
table to see the girl who’d been recording
glaring at me.
“Did you just kiss him?” she snarled, while
everyone else behind her laughed.
“I-I didn’t do it on purpose!” I blurted, my
cheeks so red by now that I knew I looked
like a fire hydrant.
“That’s my fucking boyfriend, bitch!”
“How the fuck was I supposed to know
that?!”
My eyes widened and I clamped my mouth
shut. I usually didn’t curse unless I was
extremely embarrassed or angry, which
made sense right now since I was feeling
both.
The girl continued to glare at me, her
phone now on the table as she stood up
but before she could try anything, the boy
who I’d tripped on and accidentally kissed
scrambled to his feet and stood between
us.
“Leave it, Layla,” he stated. “She didn’t do it
on purpose.”
“Yes, she did! I embarrassed her so now
she’s trying to get back at me!”
“Excuse me?” Now, I was on my feet too,
shoving the boy aside so I could be in
front of her. “I’m not that revengeful that
I’d deliberately kiss your boyfriend! This is
my first
fucking day! I don’t know anyone.”
“Just get out of my sight,” she snapped,
and I opened my mouth to retort when a
warm hand wrapped around my forearm
and yanked me away from the scene,
dragging me out of the cafeteria before I
could get myself suspended.
“Let go of me,” I snarled, my cheeks
burning bright red as I tried to make the
boy drop his grip but he wouldn’t budge.
Instead, he led me into the girls’ bathroom
and stopped in front of the mirror, making
me watch my pasta-covered reflection
while he grabbed napkins and wet them
before handing them to me to wipe my
hair and shirt.
“I don’t need your help,” I muttered, taking
the napkins and rubbing them against my
shirt anyway.
He crossed his arms, “I know. I just
thought I’d be polite.”
“Your girlfriend lacks that category.”
Despite the situation, a smile twitched the
corner of his lips, “She’s not my girlfriend.”
My head snapped to the side, ” What? ”
“Layla’s…an interesting case. She’s a bit
protective over me.”
“Great. So, I have a psycho bitch to hate me
for eternity.”
He grinned, “You also have a handsome
Greek god to call you Clumsy.”
I cocked a brow, “I thought you said you
weren’t egotistical.”
“It’s okay to be a little self-confident,
right?”
A small laugh escaped my lips and I
glanced at my reflection, glad that most of
the damage was gone except for the large
red stain that was on the middle of my
shirt.
“Well, I guess, everyone will think I came
back from murdering someone,” I stated,
sighing as I threw the napkins into the
trash.
“You can say I was your partner-in-crime,”
the boy added, and I felt a smile form on
my lips.
“Sure thing, bub. But what exactly does my
partner-in-crime go by?”
A sly smile curved his lips as he headed
towards the door, his hand wrapping
around the handle as his striking blue eyes
met mine.
“Connor. Connor Blake.”
I gave a wave of my fingers, “See you
whenever, Connor.”
He gifted me a small salute.
“Later, Clumsy.”
TBC………
Guys, what do you think? Is it cool, enough
for me to continue??

The next morning, I didn’t feel like going to school. It was like my confidence had faded and in its place, my true embarrassment had settled in because suddenly I didn’t want to get out of my bed and face what would be millions of people laughing at me. All because a girl had tripped me so that I ended up kissing someone. A knock knock on my door brought me out of my thoughts and I quickly started coughing, covering my forehead with my hand, trying to act as dramatically sick as possible when my dad opened the door, poking his head in as his warm brown eyes glanced at me. “Hey, sweetie, you up?” “Yeah,” I croaked out, “but I’m not feeling well.” “Aw, that sucks.” A pause. “You’re still going to school.” “But, Dad!” “No buts, young lady, let’s go.” Groaning, I rolled out of bed and pointed an accusing finger at my father as I headed towards my ensuite bathroom, “I hope you know that if I die of embarrassment today, it’ll be your fault.” “My sincerest apologies,” he stated sarcastically, before closing my bedroom door behind him and walking away. Well, at least I know where I get my sarcasm from. Sighing, I quickly used the bathroom and brushed my teeth, hurriedly throwing on my uniform before deciding that I’ll braid my hair into a Dutch braid and frame my face with a few loose strands. Once I was sure I looked presentable, I grabbed my backpack from the floor and jogged out of my room, heading down the stairs to where my dad was in the kitchen making waffles. He looked up when he saw me come in and slid a plate full with delicious-looking breakfast across the counter, pushing a glass of orange juice forward, too. I grinned, “Thanks.” He nodded before he grabbed his own bag and slung it over his own shoulder, turning to look at me as he grabbed his coffee, “Remember, I’ll be home late tonight so don’t freak out if I don’t get back at my usual time. And if you get hungry, order some pizza but don’t eat it all. You know I’m a sucker for cheese.” “Got it. Anything else?” He tapped his chin with his finger for a moment before he shook his head and kissed my forehead, “That’s all. Love you.” “Love you, too, Dad.” I watched him leave before I quickly finished my own breakfast and headed to school, my steps faltering when I reached the freshly-grazed lawn that belonged to my academy. A few people were already starting to stare at me but I quickly swallowed my embarrassment and held my head up, walking forward with confident strides. Never let anyone see that they get to you. The words rung inside my head as I ignored the whispers of the students, only continuing to make my way to my locker, where – you guessed it – Queen Bitch was waiting for me. What do you want?” I sighed, cutting straight to the point. “Just came to see if you saw the video yet,” she stated, a smirk twitching at the corner of her lips that I rolled my eyes to. “No, I didn’t, but thank you for letting me know it’s up. Now, move.” She didn’t, only widening her smirk even more, “You know, my favorite part was when you got pasta all over your face.” I gave her a sweet smile, “Really? Mine was when I kissed the guy you’re obsessed with.” A chorus of ‘ oohs’ went through the crowd that had gathered again, and I found myself grinning when Layla’s face flushed red, whether in embarrassment or anger, I don’t know. “I’m not obsessed with him,” she protested, but the way her voice wavered told me otherwise. I shrugged my shoulders, “Whatever you say.” Obviously realizing that no one was going to believe her, Layla stomped her foot in a childish manner and shot me a glare before shoving her way through the people who were laughing at her. I watched her go before shaking my head with a chuckle, and turned towards my locker, my hand reaching out to do the combo when a voice spoke up. Girly, teach me your ways.” My gaze snapped to the side where a beautiful girl was leaning against the lockers next to mine, her dark curly hair down to her waist and large, almond eyes watching me with amusement. There was an aura around her that demanded attention and respect, and I knew within a heartbeat that she was the type of girl guys would pine over but would never get. “My what?” I questioned, finally snapping out of my daze to register her words. She laughed, her pearly white teeth flashing as she did, “Your ways. You know, to have such great responses to girls like Layla.” “Oh,” I chuckled. “There’s really no way to teach. All you have to do is use your brain – which is something she doesn’t have.” The girl’s grin widened as she held out her hand, “My name’s Yasmin, and I have a feeling that we’ll be great friends.” I gave her a smile of my own as I shook her hand back with a nod, “Neat name. I’m Kiara.” “Thanks. It’s Egyptian.” That explains that damn gorgeousness. Where you headed?” she questioned, and I cocked my head to the direction that I needed to go. “Physics. You?” “AP Chem. They’re in the same hallway, though, so do you want to walk together to our next classes afterwards?” I nodded, “Sure. See you, then.” She gave a wave of her fingers before she walked down the hall, disappearing around the corner just as I slung my backpack over my shoulder and started to do the same. That is, until I slammed into someone. A groan escaped my lips and I tilted my head up to see an unfamiliar boy rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly while a very familiar guy next to him was laughing loudly. “I believe as my partner-in-crime, you’re supposed to support me and not make fun of me, thank you very much,” I muttered, grabbing the book that had fallen out of my hands from the floor before shooting a cool glare towards Connor, who grinned. “Sorry, Clumsy, but I just find it funny that you can go from being bold and telling Layla off to being a total klutz and stumbling into everyone.” Then he smirked, “But at least you didn’t end up kissing him.” The unfamiliar boy’s eyebrows rose up in surprise, ” This is the girl? Holy shit, I thought River was just making that up when he said that.” My cheeks flushed in embarrassment, “Didn’t you see the video?” He shook his head, “I don’t bother checking my social media. Too many notifications.” Popular people, am I right? “Anyway, sorry for bumping into you,” he apologized, but I waved it off. “It’s all good. My fault, anyway. Where are you two headed?” “Skipping,” Connor replied. “Want to join?” “And deal with your comments on my clumsiness? No thanks. Have fun, though.” He pouted, his bright blue eyes shimmering with amusement as he held a hand over his heart, “But I thought we were partners in crime!” “This criminal’s taking a break from trouble right now.” The unfamiliar dude laughed, “Some other time then. See you.” I shot him a smile before walking around him, about to enter my classroom when Connor called out. “Try not to walk into the door, Clumsy!” I rolled my eyes and flipped him the bird. Not today, Satan. And as I thought that, I smacked straight into the wooden door of my classroom. TBC………………

“What happened to your face?” I shot a glare at Yasmin as I slid into my seat at our lunch table, my hand automatically going up to the huge red mark that had formed on the corner of my forehead as I muttered incoherent words under my breath, wincing when I applied too much pressure. “Nothing,” I grumbled, and watched as she raised a brow but then shook her head. “Whatever you say. Anyway, you hear about the party?” I nodded. I had, in fact, heard about the party the class president was throwing, and as far as I knew, everyone in our grade was invited. Many girls had been talking about what they were going to wear while most of the guys had been boasting about the alcohol they would consume (although I had no idea why someone would brag about that). I hadn’t been planning on going but now that Yasmin had brought it up, I’d realized that I was free for the night and really had nothing else to do. So, why not? “Yeah, I’m going. Are you?” Yasmin shook her head with a pout, “Can’t. Parents watch me like a hawk.” I laughed, “Trust me, I’ve dealt with that before. Maybe next time then?” She chuckled, “Maybe.” We settled back into a peaceful silence when a familiar voice broke through the air and rang in my ears, causing me to look up and groan when I saw that it was Connor and his friend that I’d bumped into. “Wassup, my dudes?” Connor greeted, and plopped down in the seat next to me. “What are you doing here?” Yasmin questioned, just as his friend slid into the seat opposite of Connor. “Can’t I visit my partner-in-crime when I miss her?” I rolled my eyes at the cute smile he sent my way before my gaze landed on his friend, “Hey, I didn’t catch your name when I bumped into you earlier. I’m Kiara You are…?” He grinned, “Noah. Nice to meet you.” A grin twitched on my own lips and I was about to respond when someone cleared their throat, and all of us looked up to see none other than Ms. Queen Bitch Layla herself. She had a sardonic smile on her face but the way her eyes were glittering menacingly told me I was in for a long ass speech. So, I decided to be the mature person and speak up. “Sup, bitch?” Ah, but I could never be mature. Her eyes narrowed into slits as she crossed her arms, “I thought I told you Connor was my boyfriend.” “I thought I told you I didn’t care,” I mocked, and watched as her jaw set. “I warned you.” “Yeah, I know, I’m still shaking in my boots. Can’t you see?” The fumes were practically blowing out of her ears from the way her face was turning a bright shade of red, all while I sat there with a shit-eating grin on my face. I was not dealing with Satan twice in one day. “Now, if you’d kindly excuse me, I’d like to eat my food now. Thank you and goodbye.” She looked like she wanted to punch me in the face but at the last moment, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath before flashing me a cool smirk and sauntering away. I watched her go with narrowed eyes. If she didn’t argue with me on that, then clearly she was up to something. But before I could think more into it, Yasmin spoke up. “Oh my God, that was amazing,” she gushed, her dark eyes filled with amusement as she excitedly clapped her hands. Noah nodded, a grin forming on his own lips, “Yeah, that was pretty awesome. Layla doesn’t take shit from anybody.” His gaze flickered towards Connor, who’d gone unexpectedly quiet. “Well, except from Connor but he doesn’t last long.” Connor snapped out of whatever trance he was in and rolled his eyes, “Shut up, Noah.” “What? It’s true.” Shaking his head, Connor muttered something under his breath before he lazily started playing with his salad, causing me to blink in surprise. Him not having a response was a bit unexpected but I didn’t press it. After all, I didn’t even know the guy. “Hey, that reminds me! Are you two going to Hunter Anderson’s party?” Noah asked, eagerly. I cracked a small smile, “Yasmin’s not, but I am.” Connor perked up, his dark brows shooting upwards in surprise, “You are?” “Why? Aren’t you?” He shook his head, a strand of his wavy hair falling onto his forehead as he did so. “I wasn’t planning on it.” Now, it was my turn to look surprised. “Seriously? You’re one of the first people I’d expect to go.” “Let’s just say I don’t have a good relationship with Hunter,” he muttered, and pushed his chair back, rising to his feet as he avoided my eyes. “Anyway, I have to go visit Mrs. Bane. She requested to meet me. See you, guys.” He then flashed me a tiny smile, “Later, Clumsy.” I watched him leave the cafeteria, his bag slung over his shoulder before I turned towards Noah, my brow cocked up as I asked, “Good relationship? What does that mean?” He shrugged, “It’s not really my place to tell.” I sighed, but then nodded, “Alright. You’re still going to the party though, right?” He gave me a thumbs-up. “Expect to see me near the snacks table.” I laughed as the bell rang, indicating the lunch period was over us and stood up, along with the rest of the students as we all started to file towards the cafeteria’s exit doors. “See you tonight then, Kiara!” I gave a wave of agreement to Noah before following Yasmin through the crowd, my mind reeling with what the reason for hate was between Hunter and River before a bigger problem registered inside me. How was I going to convince my dad to let me go?? I stared at my reflection as I brushed my unruly hair, watching it curl immediately as soon as each strand was out of my comb. I never liked my hair. I thought it always made me stand out among others, since it was a weird mix of brown and blonde but lately I’d come to adore it. Probably because it was the one thing that my mother would always compliment. My mother had been a beautiful woman of Irish descent, with large, playful green eyes and fiery red hair that always managed to look attractive, even when it was a mess. She had sprinkles of freckles across the bridge of her nose, one of my father’s favorite characteristics about her. He had always praised her about her beauty, and I could still remember the times when he would stop by her office with a bouquet of flowers and an ‘ I love you,’ immediately winning the hearts of her co-workers. But he didn’t care about them. He only had eyes for my mom. Tears had formed in my eyes and I gave a watery smile to my reflection, when a knock on my door broke me out of my thoughts. I hurriedly wiped my face before calling to my dad that he could come in. “Hey, sweetheart, you ready to go?” I nodded, avoiding his gaze as I grabbed my phone, my eyes still stinging from the memory of my mother. But of course, he could figure out that I wasn’t okay “What’s wrong?” I looked up when he gently tilted my chin up, his warm brown eyes gazing into my similar ones. “Nothing,” I said, softly. “I was just thinking about Mom.” The worry in his eyes faded into tenderness and I could see the tiny bits of pain he tried so hard to keep hidden from me. But he couldn’t always hide it. After all, he was the one who always cried on Christmas, when my mother wasn’t there to decorate the house. “You’re missing her, aren’t you?” he questioned, quietly. I nodded, lowering my gaze to the ground. My father wrapped me into a fierce hug, his arms holding me against him as he kissed my hair, “I’m sorry, sweetheart.” Fresh tears sprang to my eyes but I buried my face into his chest, not wanting to cry to hurt my dad even more. He had already dealt with so much heartache. I didn’t want to be the cause of more. “It’s okay, Dad,” I mumbled. “It’s not your fault.” He pulled back, his hands cradling my face as he kissed my forehead, “I know, kiddo. But I just wish…I just wish things weren’t like this.” I knew what he meant. But I didn’t want to create any more problems for him so I inhaled a deep breath and plastered on a smile. “Me, too. But we can’t change the past, Dad. Mom would have wanted us to be happy.” He nodded in agreement, “You’re right. Now, let’s go drop you off at that party.” My smile widened. “Let’s.” I pushed through the dancing students, my head spinning with all the smells of alcohol, sweat, and puke. It had been an hour since I’d arrived and to say I was dying of boredom was an understatement. I had been searching for Noah for a long time, but hadn’t seen him anywhere so I had just gone to get a few drinks when the host of the party had come along, joining me for an unwanted chat. TBC……….

Episode 4 “You’re the new girl, right?” he asked, and I nodded, my eyes still roaming around for a familiar face. I didn’t want to admit it, but a part of me was really hoping River had come anyway. Just so I would have someone to talk to. “What’s your name?” Sighing, I glanced up at Hunter, “Kiara.” “Cool. I’m Hunter.” “I know.” There were a few beats of awkward silence when he spoke up again, “How do you like the party so far?” I shrugged, “It’s fine.” He cocked a brow. “Just fine?” When I didn’t respond, he turned towards the bar, “How about a drink to change your mind?” I glanced at him and then the bottle he was holding. I was smart enough to know not to take drinks from someone who I’d just met so with a polite smile, I stood up and shook my head. “No thanks. I’m good.” With that, I walked away. A few minutes passed and I decided that I should just get going home, so with a quick search in my purse, I grabbed my phone and dialed my dad’s number. However, just as he picked up, I felt a sharp sting on my ass and I looked behind me to see a drunken guy with bloodshot eyes, grinning at me. “Hey, babe.” Disgust filled me and I quickly told my dad I’d call him back, shoving my phone back into my purse as I glared at him, “Who the hell do you think you are, you sick bastard?” “Chill, hot stuff. I’m just looking for some fun.” “Well, go find it from someone who actually wants it,” I snapped, and turned, making my way towards the door when his hand caught my arm and pulled me into his chest. I felt the dead weight of his arms around my waist, my mind reeling with anger when he squeezed my ass again with his hands. “Fucking let go!” I snarled and swung my fist into his cheek. His head snapped to the side and I watched with wide eyes when a sadistic smile took place on his lips. “You shouldn’t have done that.” Shit. My confidence had quickly taken a 180- degree turn into fear as he dragged me away, pushing past laughing students who were too out of their minds to comprehend what was actually happening. I was struggling to have him let go of me and I quickly felt my panic expand when I saw he was leading me into a bedroom. “Stop!” I shrieked. “Someone help me, please!” No one heard me. I felt tears form in my eyes just as the guy stepped inside the bedroom, about to close the door after me but before he could, a figure entered and started shouting at the guy. Within seconds, the dude was lying on the floor, unconscious, and I looked up to see Hunter breathing heavily, his eyes glimmering with hate. He then turned towards me, gathering me in his arms, “Are you okay?” I swallowed, gently pushing away from him. “I-I just want…I just want to go home.” Hunter nodded, stepping forward, “Do you want me to give you a ride?” My gaze flickered from him to the guy who had grabbed me and then back to him. Something was still bothering me about Hunter, as if there was a huge puzzle piece I was missing. Just because he’d saved me from potentially getting raped didn’t mean I trusted him with my life. So with a shaky breath, I shook my head. “It’s fine. My dad’s coming to pick me up anyway.” Without waiting for a response from him, I pushed past and made my way to the door, about to exit when I spotted a familiar figure making his way towards me. “Connor?” He looked absolutely gorgeous in a fitted black T-shirt and gray jogger sweatpants, his dark hair mussed in all the right directions and his bright blue eyes shimmering in the flashing lights. “Hey, Clumsy,” he laughed, and I swallowed as the sound echoed around my ears. “When did you get here?” “A few minutes ago.” He then scanned me up and down, before furrowing his brows. “What’s up with you? You alright?” His concern caused the flash of the scene that had happened a few seconds ago to replay in my mind, and I quickly averted my eyes from his smoldering gaze before he could see my emotions. “Yeah, I’m fine. Heading home.” “Already? But I just got here.” I could tell without looking that he was pouting. “I’m just not feeling well,” I muttered, and looked up at him. “See you at school, partner-in-crime.” Despite the suspicious look in his eyes, a smile twitched his lips. “See you, Clumsy.” I turned, my hand clutching my phone as I quickly texted for my dad to pick me up before I glanced back at the open door of the house, where Connor had been standing. He was gone. A sense of disappointment filled my chest but I quickly pushed it away, deciding to sit down on the sidewalk as I waited for my dad to come pick me up. I was desperately trying to ignore the memory of what just happened a few minutes ago but it was hard to push it away. I couldn’t help the tears that had formed in my eyes, not when my mind kept running back to the flashbacks that haunted me every night. The same flashbacks that were the reason of me transferring to a new school. A honk broke me out of my thoughts and I looked up to see my dad’s car parked in front of me. Quickly wiping my eyes, I scrambled to my feet and slid into the car, not meeting my dad’s gaze. “How was the party?” I opened my mouth, about to tell him everything but a voice in the back of my mind stopped me. “It was fine,” I croaked out instead, forcing a smile to form on my lips as I turned towards him. “I had a lot of fun.” He studied my features for a moment before a relieved smile broke out onto his own face. “I’m glad.” And then he started driving. Pretty soon, the weekend flew by and before I knew it, I was already back in school. Except this time, things weren’t as they were before. Many students were whispering when I entered, the girls pointing with hushed voices while the guys muttered things under their breaths, their eyes watching me as I made my way towards my locker. I was confused as to why everyone was acting this way, especially since I knew that they had gotten over me kissing River by accident within a day. So, what had I done now that had gotten their attention? For a brief moment, I wondered if Layla had done something. Had she spread a rumor about me and I hadn’t known? Or worse, had she posted another embarrassing video she had taken of me when I wasn’t paying attention? When I saw Yasmin walking towards me, I let out a relieved breath. She would let me know what had caused everyone to act like this. “What’s going on?” I asked as soon as she reached me. She exhaled a deep breath, quickly whipping out her phone and tapping something on it before handing it to me. I watched as a video started playing, the guy who’d tried to take advantage of me the main focus of it. Another figure was across from him, but the camera was unfocused so I couldn’t make out who. But judging from their staggering height and physique, it was a boy. “Oh, hey,Connor,” the guy greeted. “What’s u–” I watched with wide eyes as Connor stepped into the camera’s view, his fist swinging into the same cheek I had punched the unfamiliar boy with. Drunken gasps played around the two, but the fury in Connor’s eyes as the camera focused in on him was unmistakable. “What the fuck?!” the guy roared, clutching his jaw as he glared at him. “Why’d you do that?” Connor didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stepped forward and grabbed the guy’s collar, pulling him close with a deadly snarl forming on his lips. “The next time you touch a girl without her consent…” he said, menacingly, “…will be the time your grave will start digging.” A chorus of ‘ oohs’ went through the crowd and I watched with shock as the screen went black, the video ending with the guy recording it saying, ” That was fucking awesome! ” “He…he…” I looked up at Yasmin with my lips parted, “But how?” There was no doubt in my mind that Connor had punched that guy because he’d tried to take advantage of me. But how had River found out about it in the first place? “I don’t know,” Yasmin answered, her dark eyes wide in amazement, “but the fact that he beat up a guy for you is…wow. I mean, if a hot boy like him did that for me–” I cut her off, “Wait, how did everyone figure out it was me that he beat him up for?” “Well, you know how Hunter is class president and everybody knows him?” I nodded, watching as she let out a nervous laugh. “He kind of spread a rumor saying how he saved you from trouble at his party, and that you were forever grateful to him because he did so.” My jaw dropped. ” What? ” “Yeah…so, maybe that’s how Connor found out? I don’t really know that many details since I wasn’t there at the party but…” But I had tuned out. Why would Hunter tell everyone that I was grateful to him because he had saved me? I mean, yeah, I was glad he’d been there but I wasn’t over-the-moon for him because of it. Irritated, I snapped back to attention and shook my head, “Whatever. I don’t really care about what other people think, so long as you don’t believe in the rumors like they do.” She rolled her eyes, “Of course I don’t believe them. Do you really think I would anyway? You don’t even seem remotely interested in Hunter, especially by the way you’re making a face right now.” With a relieved sigh, I smiled. “Thanks, Yaz. I’m glad you decided to stick by me.” She smiled back, “Anytime.” I turned back to my locker, about to do the combination when a voice shouted my name. “Kiara!” My head snapped to the side to see Noah jogging towards me, swiftly wrapping his arms around my torso for a quick hug before he pulled back and grabbed my shoulders. “Are you alright? Do you have any injuries? Do you need me to beat him up because I wil–” “Noah, everyone knows you can’t hurt a fly.” “Shut up, Connor, no one asked you.” I breathed out a laugh before my eyes connected with River’s electric blue ones, the intensity of them cause my cheeks to heat up. He looked fine, no signs of any injuries on him except for the bandage that was neatly wrapped around his knuckles, the stark white practically glowing against his tan skin. I winced. He must’ve clocked a good one on the asshole. Connor noticed where my gaze was and casually stuffed his hands into his pockets, his eyes watching me as I looked up at him. I wanted to say something; thank him mostly, but I couldn’t form the words. So, I stayed silent. “Anyway, I need to get going to History,” Yasmin announced, and flashed me a smile. “See you at lunch, Kiara.” “I’ll walk with you,” Noah added, and fell into stride with her as the pair disappeared down the hall. Then, it was just Connor and me. I decided to try and thank him, “I–” “You don’t have to say anything,” he interrupted, and I paused, my eyes drifting up to his with surprise in them. “I would do it again in a heartbeat, with or without a thank-you.” My lips parted in amazement at his words and without thinking, I stepped forward and hugged him. My arms wrapped around his waist and I felt him stiffen in shock but then he gently hugged me back, almost as if I was fragile. “Thank you, anyway,” I whispered. He didn’t respond but by the way he tightened his arms, I knew he’d heard. After a few moments of hugging, I pulled back and laughed, hoping to God that my cheeks hadn’t turned an unusual amount of red but judging by the burning feeling in my face, I probably looked like a tomato…… TBC…

Episode 5 Connor grinned, “Are you blushing , Clumsy?” “No,” I said too quickly. His grin widened. “You totally are.” “Shut up!” A laugh bubbled out of him and I found myself unconsciously smiling. There was something about him that put me at ease, even when he was teasing, and I liked the feeling enough to want to keep it forever. “Well, anyway, I need to get going to class, too,” he chuckled, and reached out to ruffle my hair. “Later.” I watched him go, my eyes following as his broad back disappeared down the corridor before I shut my locker door and gathered my books against my chest, a smile on my face. Maybe this school year wouldn’t be so bad. •-•-• I take it back. This school year is going that bad. As soon as I arrived in the cafeteria, people bombarded me with questions. Most of them revolved around if I was okay or not, but a few of them hit my nerves. “Are you and Connor dating?” “No, they’re not! She likes Hunter, remember?” “But Connor was the one who beat him up for her!”. “Yeah, but Hunter was there when it actually happened!” I decided not to respond to any of them, only shoving past people to get to my table, where Yasmin and Noah sat proudly with smirks on their faces. “What are you looking so smug about?” I muttered, dropping my food onto the table as I sat down. “Nothing. We just noticed how popular you’ve gotten,” Noah teased, and I shot him a glare. “Oh, shut up.” “Nah, don’t be so mean,” Yasmin chided, before a grin spread across her lips. “Look, your Prince Charming is here.” “Which one?” I asked sarcastically, before turning to see Connor shoving through the same crowd I had to deal with as he made his way towards us. When he reached the table, he collapsed down next to me, throwing his arm behind my head with an exhausted sigh. “Man, sometimes I hate myself for my heroic actions.” I rolled my eyes, flicking a piece of lettuce at him, “Don’t be so egotistic, sweetheart.” “Ah-ah,” he flicked the piece back, hitting me square in the forehead, “it’s self- confidence.”. “Not this again.” “Shh, don’t be jealous.” “I am no–” “Please, Mom and Dad, save the arguments for later,” Noah intervened, a sly smile playing on his lips when Connor reached across the table and smacked his friend. “Ow!” “Shut the fuck up.” I laughed at Noah’s pouty expression before my eyes zoned in on Hunter, who was walking towards us. “Goddammit,” I groaned, and quickly set my head down, “Quick, everyone pretend I fell asleep.” “Sure thing,” Connor agreed. “Hey, guys…what’s with Kiara?” “Oh, nothing,” Connor responded cheerfully to Hunter, “She’s just pretending to sleep so she doesn’t have to talk to you.” “You goddamn traitor,” I snapped, raising my head with a sharp glare to which he gifted a smile to. Hunter looked confused, “What? Why? Did I do something wrong?” I was about to respond when my eyes zoned in on a fresh bruise that was forming on the right side of his cheek, the dark purple stark against his pale skin. “What happened to your cheek?” I questioned, and watched as he reached up to touch it, wincing in the process. “Oh, that? I…smacked into the wall when I got drunk at my party.” He laughed, forcefully. “Silly me.” I could’ve sworn I saw Connor’s lips curve into a small smirk, but it was gone before I could confirm. “Is there something you need?” Yasmin asked, her shapely dark brow cocking up as she propped her elbow on the table. “Because we were kind of busy before you got here.” Hunter’s jaw set, “I just wanted to make sure Kiara was okay.” “I’m fine,” I stated, for what must have been the millionth time today. “Thank you for the concern.” “Yeah,” Noah piped up, before he gave a wave of his fingers, “So, you can leave now.” “Noah,” Yasmin scolded, but the look on her face told that she wanted Hunter gone, too. Hunter picked up the hint and forced a smile, “Right, of course. See you later, then.” He turned to leave but at the last moment, glanced back, “Are you going to the game tomorrow night?” I shook my head, “Can’t. It’s a school night.” “Aw, come on. Can’t you sneak out?” I thought back to my rebellious phase, remembering the times when I would think that I’m the shit and could do whatever I wanted. And then I remembered the look of disappointment on my father’s face when I would yell at him for always grounding me for no reason. I was selfish , I thought. So, so selfish. “No,” I said, firmly. “I have homework to do, anyway.” “But–” Connor cut him short. “Fuck off, man. She said she can’t go so why are you obsessing over it?” There was an underlying tone of warning in his words and I knew Hunter had sensed that so he didn’t reply. Instead, he flashed me a smile and walked away. •-• Tonight was trick-or-treating night, and you could imagine my surprise when I found out that Noah was excited to go get candy. But then again, Noah was a child at heart. I could still remember when he had come running up to me during lunch to ask if I was going. I hadn’t planned to until he’d suggested that I join him and Connor in going with Noah’s little brother. Yasmin had said she would’ve come if she hadn’t had to go to a family member’s dinner party, but she’d told me that I should go and have fun. Especially since my last Friday night hadn’t exactly gone well. So, with a smile, I told Noah I’d join him. Now, I was in a hurry to change into my Egyptian goddess costume, which consisted of a golden crown wrapped around my head, a long, white dress encrypted with royal designs at the hem, and gladiator heels that strapped upwards to my knees. I hadn’t bothered much with makeup besides the kohl eyeliner that surrounded my hazel eyes in a dark, upturned way. Light glitter was sprinkled across my neck and face, allowing it to glow the way only a queen’s would, and when I was finally done, I was beaming. Best halloween costume went to – me. I quickly texted Noah that I would be at his place in 10 minutes, and then bolted down the stairs, about to step out of the house when I saw my dad standing in the living room’s doorway, a picture of my mom in his hands. His cheeks were glistening, and when I softly said, “Dad ,” he wiped his eyes and gave me a watery smile. “Don’t mind me, sweetheart. Just remembering memories…” His gaze fell to the car keys in my hand and he glanced back up, “Are you leaving now?”. I nodded, “Yeah. Noah’s about to leave in 5 minutes so I have to get there.” I studied him. “Do you want me to stay?” He abruptly shook his head, setting the photo down on the couch, “No, no, you go have fun. Be safe.”. I walked over to him and kissed his cheek, “I will.” But as I left the house and got into the car, I felt my heart hurt a little. •-•-• When I pulled up to his driveway, Noah was waiting outside his house with a mini replica of him holding his hand. He was dressed in a white outfit, with a simple button-down shirt, white pants, and angel wings attached to his back with an additional halo floating above his blonde hair. A grin was plastered across his face when I stepped out of the car, immediately smiling back at him. “Look at you, trying to look innocent,” I teased, and he laughed. “Shut up, I’m adorable. “Whatever you say, bub,” I murmured, before bending down to greet his little brother, “Hi. I’m Kiara.” His little brother gave me a toothy grin, “Hi! I’m Ben. Are you Noah’s girlfriend?” I snorted, “He wishes. I’m just his friend. But, I love your costume.” TBC……

Episode 6 He looked down at his Ben 10 costume and then looked back up again, “Thanks! Yours is cool too!” I laughed and ruffled his hair before standing up and glancing at Noah, “When’s Connor going to arrive?” As if on cue, a sleek black car pulled up to Noah’s driveway, and I watched as it parked before a tall figure climbed out. Immediately, my eyes widened. Connor was dressed in all black. Black tee, black ripped jeans, and combat boots that made him even hotter. His dark hair was a mess and he was grumbling curse words under his breath until his eyes landed on me, the masquerade mask surrounding them making the color pop. “What are you supposed to be?” I blurted. Noah made a noise in the back of his throat, stepping forward as Connor joined us, “He’s a fallen angel. I’m a guardian.” I stood corrected. Best Halloween costume went to – Connor I glanced at his outfit again and internally swooned. He could be my fallen angel any day Shut the fuck up, mind. Connor’s bright blue eyes did a slow roll up and down my body, before they connected with mine, an approving glint in them before his lips curled into a small smile. “Egyptian goddess, huh?” I nodded, suddenly feeling self-conscious as I crossed my arms over my chest, “Yeah. I was going to go for Greek, but I thought maybe too many people would do that.” His smile widened, but he didn’t say anything more. Instead, he turned towards Ben. “Hey, little guy.” Ben grinned, letting go of Noah to hug Connor, “Hi! Do you like my costume?” Connor nodded, holding out his hand for a fist bump, “Yeah, man, you look great! Way better than I do.” Ben let out a giggle before tugging at Noah’s shirt, “Can we go now, Noah? Everyone else already started.” The three of us looked up to see kids coming out of their houses, squealing and laughing as their trick-or-treat buckets swung, their eagerness for candy visible from a mile away. “Yeah, bud.” Noah looked down at his little brother with a smile, “Let’s go.” He led Ben forward and Connor and I quickly followed after. While Ben started chatting eagerly with his brother, Connor leaned forward, his lips brushing against my ear as he whispered so softly, that I almost missed it. “I don’t think you needed to dress up as a goddess,” he murmured, “when you already look the part.” I abruptly stopped, my cheeks flushing red as Connor’s lips curved into a small smirk as he continued to walk forward, his hands stuffed into his pants’ pockets as I just stood there, my heart pounding abnormally for a comment that was probably said for a reaction. Snapping myself out of my daze, I quickly caught up with the rest and avoided Connor’s eyes the whole time, instead only laughing when Noah begged for candy too and grinning when Ben would scold him for trying to take his. Before I knew it, we’d already gone three times and had returned to Noah’s house, tired and worn-out as the four of us collapsed onto his couch. “Holy shit,” Noah breathed, “That was the most I’ve ever walked in my entire life.” I glared at him, “Language. We have children here.” “I’m not a child!” Ben pouted, as he counted his candy before happily gathering them back in the bag and running upstairs. Connor laughed, “He’s a mini Noah.” “Hey!” A chuckle sounded in the room, and all three of us looked up to see a teenage girl leaning against the living room doorway, her green eyes the exact same shade as Noah’s as she took us all in, her gaze lingering on River before she smiled. “I see you still haven’t stopped making fun of Noah,” she teased, and Connor grinned. “When did I ever stop?” Noah crossed his arms childishly, “This is bullying, and I will not stand for it!” He turned towards me, “Kiara, you’re on my side, aren’t you?” I opened my mouth to respond when Connor wrapped his arm around my shoulder, dragging me to his side so that I was pressed up against him with a sly smile, “Nah, man, she’s my partner-in-crime. Meaning, she’s on my side.” I rolled my eyes and laughed at Noah’s betrayed expression, “Sorry, Noah. Maybe some other time.” Noah shook his head with a playfully sad smile before he turned towards the girl, “Hey, didn’t you go trick-or-treating, Lilly?” Lilly slowly tore her eyes away from me to look at Noah, “No, I was hanging out with Andy.” She glanced at Connor as if to see his reaction, but he was just absentmindedly playing with my curls. I smacked his hand away. Noah immediately scowled, “Seriously? That asshole is just using you. Why do you keep hanging out with him?” She shrugged and he shook his head before saying, “You should’ve just come with us. We made a bomb ass group.” Lilly laughed, glancing at the three of us before she raised a brow at Connor, “What are you supposed to be?” “Fallen angel,” Connor replied. “Aren’t you supposed to have wings?” “A fallen angel is stripped of their wings,” I stated with a chuckle. “So, no, he’s not supposed to. Guardian angels on the other hand…” I gestured towards Noah who moved his hands back to his wings to make them move up and down, “…they have wings.” “Cool…and sorry if I sound rude, but who are you? I know pretty much all of Noah’s friends, but I’ve never seen you before.” I smiled, “I’m Kiara. Recently moved here, and met your crazy brother and his equally crazy friend.” “You want to know how we me–” I smacked a hand over Connor’s mouth before he could embarrass me, but as soon as I did, his lips softly pressed against it and I jerked my hand away with shock. “Did you just kiss my hand?” He grinned, “I was going to lick it, but I didn’t know how kinky you would be so I decided not to.” I laughed and smacked his shoulder, settling back onto the couch when I realized Connor’s arm was still behind me. The thought of telling him to move it crossed my mind but then I wondered that if he hadn’t bothered to move it, then why should I tell him to? After all, it was his arm. So, I let it go. I hadn’t even realized that the whole room had went quiet, and when I looked up, I saw Lilly’s fists clenched and Noah with his phone out, recording us. “What are you doing?” I demanded. He gave me a childish grin, “Recording your Mom and Dad memories. Trust me, when this is over and we all grow old, you’ll thank me for saving memories like this.” Connor rolled his eyes but a smile was tugging at the corner of his lips, and when I glanced over, our gazes connected in an electrifying moment before a throat cleared and snapped us out of our daze. Lilly gave a forced smile, “I just realized how rude it was of me not to offer you guys any drinks. Kiara, care to help me?” I furrowed my eyebrows but nodded, getting up from my seat as I walked into the kitchen before leaning against the counter. “What do you want me to help you with?” “Are you and Connor dating?” The question threw me completely off- guard, “What? ” She narrowed her eyes, “You heard me.” A spark of irritation flew in my chest at her sassy tone but I ignored it and responded with a firm, “No.” She let out a relieved sigh, “Good.” “Good?” “Yeah, good. Because he’s mine.” I cocked a brow, looking her up and down before speaking, “Aren’t you, like, 10?” Lilly made a noise of disapproval in the back of her throat as she poured lemonade into three glasses, “I’m 14!” “And you like Connor? He’s three years your senior.” “So? People who are 22 get married to people who are 25. No one complains about that.” She had a point there. “But I thought you liked Andy,” I retorted, lamely. She rolled her eyes, “That was just to get Connor jealous. Obviously it didn’t work, so I’m going to have to try harder.” Suddenly, her face lit up, “Hey, I have an idea! What if you talked me up to him like I was the best person to exist?” I snorted, “Not happening, little psycho. I may not be his girlfriend, but that doesn’t mean I don’t know his taste. He won’t go for you.” Her cheeks flushed red in anger, “You don’t know that.” “I pretty much do.” She was about to respond when Connor appeared in the kitchen, walking up behind me as he looked over my shoulder, his brows furrowing when he saw that the drinks had splashed everywhere. “What happened? You two went in here 10 minutes ago and still aren’t done.” I almost laughed at the star-struck expression on Lilly’s face. In her midst of getting angry at me, she’d spilled the lemonade everywhere except into the glasses. “Oh, nothing,” I stated, slowly stepping away from the counter as I flashed a small smile towards him. “Just girl talk.” Lilly’s eyes glared holes into the side of my head as Connor nodded slowly, “Right. Anyway, since the drinks are a bum, want me to take you home? It’s getting late.” I shook my head, “Nah, it’s all good. I brought my own ride here, anyway. Thanks, though.” Connor looked slightly disappointed before he grabbed my wrist, stopping me from leaving, “Wait! There’s a fair tomorrow, and Noah and I are planning on going. Wanna join?” I glanced at Lilly’s obviously jealous expression and gave a sly grin, “Sure. Can Yasmin tag along?” “Yeah, of course. We’ll pick you up so don’t worry about driving there.” I nodded and he let go of my wrist, a smile forming on his lips as he stepped back. “See you then, Clumsy.” I gave a mock salute, “Later, Blake.” And then I walked away, feeling slightly petty for one-upping a 14-year-old. But oh, well. Tbc…….

Episode 7 Today was supposed to be a good day. Yasmin and I would tag along with Noah and Connor to the fair and we’d have a pretty fun time, until the sun set and we went back home. That was the plan. The same plan that didn’t include Lilly coming with us. “I thought you said it was only going to be the four of us!” I whisper-shouted to Noah, who was seated next to me in the backseat while Yasmin was on my right, and Connor was driving with Lilly in the passenger seat. “I know, I know, I’m sorry,” he muttered back. “I didn’t want her to join either, but my mom forced me to bring her with. Don’t worry, she won’t be annoying.” “Wanna bet?” I grumbled, and sat back, my arms crossed over my chest as I sighed with irritation. “How long till we get there?” “About 10 more minutes,” Connor replied, glancing at me with his piercing blue eyes in the rear view mirror. “Why the sour mood?” “No reason.” Lilly turned in her seat, her brow cocked up in a way that was a bit too smug. “You know, I hope I’m not intruding in anything that was just supposed to be for you guys here.” “You are,” Noah and I replied at the same time, and Yasmin reached over to punch us both in the shoulder. “Ow!” “Be nice,” she chastised, before turning with a smile towards Lilly. “No, you’re not intruding in anything. We’re happy to have you.” “Said no one ever,” I muttered, and Connor snorted in amusement, causing Lilly to flush red with anger. “Kiara,” Yasmin warned, but before she could scold me, or worse, make me apologize, Connor grinned. “And we have arrived!” he announced dramatically, and immediately we all wore matching smiles. “Yes!” Noah pumped his fist in the air as Connor parked the car. “Fucking finally!” We all scrambled to get out of the car and once we were out, Connor handed us our tickets. “Here you go. Don’t lose it until we’ve gotten past the entrance.” He gave Noah a pointed look, who held up his hands in surrender. “I am offended!”. “Good, that was the point. Let’s go, everyone.” I laughed at Noah’s pouty expression before falling into step with Connor, who was walking silently with Lilly by his side when he spoke up, quietly so that only I could hear. “My dad used to come here with me,” he said, softly. “When I was a little kid, it was our way of bonding and we’d get excited every time the fair was around.” I furrowed my brows, “What about now?” “He got rich,” he responded, and that was that. We reached the entrance and quickly handed our tickets in before entering the fair, immediately hit by the scent of popcorn and the sound of excited screams echoing in the air around us as roller coasters fell and rose. “So, which ride first?” Yasmin asked, and Noah automatically pointed to a tall ride with a grin. “Titan’s Invasion. That roller coaster’s my shit.” I rolled my eyes at his choice of words and glanced at Connor, who I was surprised to see was already looking at me. When I cocked a brow, his cheeks flushed slightly and he glanced away. “Yeah, let’s go on that,” he agreed, and avoided my gaze as we got into the line. Lilly immediately started chatting with him while Noah pulled out his phone and scrolled through his feed, and that left me to talk with Yasmin, whom I was about to ask could sleep over when a voice cut through. “Oh my God, aren’t you Connor Blake?!” Connor turned to see a group of girls gawking at him, the one even snapping a pic and quickly posting it on Snapchat before squealing. “Please delete that,” he calmly ordered. She completely ignored him, “You’re the son of Edward Blake, right? His company’s the richest of our area!” Connor winced as more people started to turn in his direction, curious stares and unheard whispers passing through the line. I saw his uneasy expression and decided to politely intervene. “Hey, I understand you’re a…fan,” I winced at the awkward way I spoke, “but Connor’s a bit uncomfortable at the moment. Maybe you can talk to him some other time?” “No! No! I just have a question…” She blinked with wide eyes at Connor, who gestured for her to continue, “Are you single?” Thankfully, the ride chose that exact moment for it to be our turn to go on and to say that Connor was relieved to not have to answer the question was an understatement. He sat down in the cart quicker than anyone else and when I beat Lilly to the seat next to him and joined him, he grinned. “Thanks for trying to help me. It just gets annoying having to deal with so many people questioning me all the time.” I waved it off, “Don’t worry about it. I saw how uncomfortable you were and decided that enough was enough.” I also remembered how the topic of your dad was untouched for you so I wanted to steer clear of that train wreck before Blondie over there said anything. Just then, Lilly’s head popped through the small space between Conmor and I’s seats, “Wait, Connor, are you single though?” Before he could respond, the ride started and Lilly was forced to sit back in her seat, huffing in irritation as the operators quickly checked the seatbelts before giving the thumbs-up to go. As the cart started moving, I found myself glancing at Connor, who was starting to laugh as the wind ruffled his hair. Was he single? I didn’t want to go to school. After having such a great weekend, school seemed like an absolute pain in the ass and I was not ready to face another day of dealing with Layla and Hunter. For a minute, I almost thought of pretending to be sick but as soon as the thought crossed my mind, my father came yelling through my bedroom door, “Don’t you dare think of calling sick, young lady!” I groaned, “I wasn’t even–” “No excuses! Hurry up, now.” Sighing, I got out of bed and quickly got dressed into my uniform, brushing my hair down so that it would look a little bit tamed before grabbing my phone and my backpack. I ran down the stairs and found my dad in the kitchen with a bag of Dunkin’ Donuts bagels in one hand and an iced coffee in the other.. My expression lit up, “Is that for me?” He laughed and handed me the coffee, “The coffee’s for you but the bagels are mine. You don’t really eat breakfast in the morning so I don’t think this’ll be a problem.” I nodded and gave him a kiss on the cheek before shouting goodbye and exiting the house, my feet steadily making their way down the sidewalk until the large school building came into view. When I reached the front lawn, I saw Connor Yasmin, and Noah all crowded at the steps, laughing at a joke they made until Noah caught my eye and waved. I smiled and waved back before walking over to them, standing next to Yasmin when I reached. “Hey,” I chirped, taking a sip of my coffee when Connor snatched it from my hand and took a sip himself. He scrunched his nose in disgust, “Yuck.” I rolled my eyes and snatched my coffee back, “Don’t drink my coffee.” “Believe me, I won’t ever again.” “What’s that suppo–” “You guys do realize you just indirectly kissed, right?” Noah questioned, his eyes wide as he pointed between the two of us. Well, considering the fact that we’ve already kissed, that’s not really a big deal, now is it? But instead, I said, “Shut up.” Yasmin laughed at Noah’s childish expression before she was interrupted by an announcement. “All students, please report to the gymnasium,” the headmistress’s voice echoed around the school grounds as she spoke. “I repeat, all students please report to the gymnasium. Thank you.” My brows furrowed as everyone started heading for the front doors, “What’s in the gymnasium?” Connor shrugged, “It’s probably an assembly or something. We have one every year.” “It’s not this early though,” Yasmin pointed out, and my curiosity deepened. The four of us walked into the gymnasium and immediately struggled to find a seat, until Connor sighed and smiled sweetly at a girl. “Hey, could you move over a bit?” She blushed and instantly scooted over to make space for us, and Connor thanked her in response before sitting down. “Rich people,” I scoffed, but he didn’t respond. Once everyone was seated, the headmistress came to the center of the gym, a microphone in her hand which she tapped a few times to gain everyone’s attention before speaking. “Good morning, ladies and gentlemen. I am terribly sorry for the short notice for you all to rush here but I have some exciting news.” Immediately, a smile formed on her lips and she glanced to her side, where a group of about 15 kids stood, all looking bored and annoyed. “Thorne Academy has had the pleasure of being asked by Loland Institute for a little trip at our school. The headmaster, Mr. Adams, contacted me the other day and asked if we could schedule a of switch of students from both schools to check out the different curriculums, and I, of course, thought it was a fantastic idea.” “Oh, no,” Connor muttered. “So, without further ado, let me introduce to you all the students from Loland that will be touring our school for a span of 4 weeks…” She walked over to the students at her side and slowly started gesturing to each one, “Matthew Aswold…Jasmine Haines…George Jacobs…” The list went on and eventually when she was done, she gave another excited smile. “And now for the students that will be going from here to Loland…” “Shit,” Noah cursed under his breath when the headmistress pulled out a piece of paper. “Layla Benson…Raymond Hart…Devon Coleman…Yasmin Jabour…Noah Waters…Kiara Collins…Hunter Anderson…Venessa Thompson…” She continued to rattle off names until finally reaching the last one, her expression lighting up even more as she scanned the students seated in the bleachers of the gym, “And last but not least, our school’s number one supporter’s son…Connor Blake! The students that have all been listed will be expected to have their bags packed by Wednesday. You will be switching then. Thank you and have a good rest of your day!” Connor, Yasmin, Noah and I all glanced at each other in horror. “Please tell me this is a joke.” “It’s not.” We all looked up to see Layla standing over us, a hand on her hip as she checked out one manicured hand. “Who asked you?” I sneered, and she rolled her eyes. “For once, I’m not being a bitch, so you don’t have to act like one either. I’m just telling you that it’s not a joke. We have to do this.” I watched her walk away and narrowed my eyes, “Something’s up with her.” “Like what?” Yasmin asked. “Like the fact that she didn’t say anything insulting to me today. You think she’s alright? Maybe she has a fever.” Connor cocked a brow and stood up, leisurely stretching his arms over his head before stuffing his hands into his pockets, “She’s not all that bad. If you knew her well enough, then maybe you wouldn’t hate her as much.” I blinked. “I thought you were my partner-in-crime.” He chuckled, “I am, Clumsy. But I’m just saying that there’s always two sides to a story. Keep that in mind.” I watched him step down the bleachers before he exited the gymnasium and for a minute, sat there in shock. And then, I thought, maybe he was right. Maybe Layla wasn’t who she was for no reason. •-•-• I was mentally exhausted. Although the students from Thorne would be leaving Wednesday, the ones from Loland were starting at our school today and that meant I had to deal with more brats than usual. So far, I’d met Linda Johnson in my AP Chem class who I’d immediately had an argument with once she refused to wear goggles for our lab, claiming that they would – and I quote – “tear her fake lashes out.” Then, I’d had the pleasure of talking to George Jacobs who was a self-centered asshole and had tried to touch my ass more times than I could count. I’d given him a good hit to the face for that. And finally, there was Jasmine Haines, who was apparently the class president for their grade and wasn’t as bad as I’d thought she would be. She had been the only decent person I’d met from Loland, and to say I was relieved was an understatement. After having to deal with the other two, she was a good break for me. So when lunch rolled around, I’d invited her to sit with us and when we joined the rest at our table, she immediately fit in. I had noticed however, how many glances she had given Connor. He hadn’t seen any of them but judging from the way she’d immediately start blushing and giggling when he started talking was a dead giveaway that she had a mini crush on him. Which I didn’t mind. I mean, it was no big deal. “I’m going to miss you guys when you go to Loland,” Jasmine sighed, and raised her big eyes in Connor’s direction again. “It’s so nice having you all to talk to.” “Yeah, trust me, we don’t want to go either but we have no choice,” Noah replied, and shrugged. “But it’s no biggie. We’ll be back soon enough.” “I hope so. Then, maybe afterwards, we can make plans.” Again, another glance Connor. “Works for me,” Yasmin chirped, and then turned, “Kiara, you in?” I shrugged, “Sure.” “If Clumsy’s in, then I’m in,” Kiara announced, and shot me a wink. “Tone down the playboy part, buddy,” I said with a laugh. He grinned, “I’m just adding on the charm. I have to live up to your standards, you know?” “Kiara has standards?” Noah asked, feigning surprise. I punched his arm with a grin, “Shut up.” We continued to eat, joking around with Jasmine still giving longing glances to Connor before it was time for us to throw out our trash, to which when we went to the garbage bins, Connor commented, “Hey, Clumsy, look! This is where you belong!” I had shoved him in response. Eventually the bell rang and we all went our separate ways, but not before being stopped by Jasmine to make plans for the weekend. She suggested that we all meet up at the local café and have a drink or two before leaving to go to the mall. Noah immediately agreed, having heard the fact that he could get food, Yasmin tagged along simply because she had no other life, and Connor…well, he kept his word and looked to me to see if I was going and once I agreed, he threw his arm around my shoulder and gave a thumbs-up to Jasmine, who’d narrowed her eyes slightly at his gesture before asking for all of our numbers. After creating a group chat and sending a million messages to make sure the numbers were right, Jasmine left and so did we, me leaving with one thought in mind. Why had I agreed to go? TBC……..

Episode 8 “Please tell me this is a sick joke.” “Trust me, I wish it was.” I stared at Layla as she unpacked her bags, pulling out expensive make-up and clothes as she set them on her bed before carrying them to the closet. I still couldn’t believe it. The students that had been picked had just arrived at Loland and I found out two minutes ago that I was going to have to share a dorm with Layla. Layla. “I’m going to the bathroom,” I mumbled, and quickly walked in, shutting the door behind me before pulling out my phone. I opened Cinnor’s contact, which was under the name, “Partner In Crime.” Me :I have to share a room with Layla Me :Help He responded in a minute. Partner In Crime:lmao sucks for you Me:You’re supposed to support not taunt me Partner In Crime :i’m sorry clumsy Partner In Crime :do you need me to come and bring you a teddy bear with boxes of chocolate? Me:That actually doesn’t sound bad Partner In Crime :well i’m not doing it Me: Bitch He didn’t respond afterwards and I sighed, stuffing my phone back into the waistband of my skirt before exiting the bathroom, immediately finding Layla sitting on her bed as she read. I cocked a brow, “Didn’t take you as the type to read.” “Yeah, well don’t judge a book by it’s cover,” she replied blandly, before continuing to scan the page. I shrugged, “Whatever. I’m going to take a shower.” When she didn’t answer, I took that as my cue to go so I swiftly grabbed a towel and a change of clothes from my bag before walking into the ensuite bathroom, setting my things down as I took a look around. It didn’t take me long to finish showering once I was done, and when I exited the bathroom with a towel wrapped around my hair, I was surprised to see that Layla was talking with Connor at the door. Wait a minute. “Connor?” The both of them turned, and while Layla rolled her eyes, Connor flashed me a signature smile, his blue eyes brightening as he looked at me. “Hey. I was just stopping by.” Layla scoffed, “He’s lying. He came here for you. And since I don’t want to see any mushy love shit, I’ll be heading to the cafeteria for a snack. The headmaster told us we don’t have to start classes until tomorrow and I am going to take every bit advantage of that.” And then she left the room. I turned towards Connor with a brow raised, “You came here for me?” His cheeks flushed, “No, I didn’t…” It was then that I noticed how both of his arms were clasped behind his back, almost as if he was hiding something. I gestured towards his arms, “What do you have there?” “Nothing.” “Connor.” ” Clumsy.” When he saw the bland look I gave him, he sighed and brought out his arms, revealing a mini teddy bear in one hand and a box of chocolates in the other. My expression brightened, “You brought them!” Connor’s cheeks seemed to turn an even deeper shade of red, “Yeah, I did. Figured it would help ease your anger what with all the Lay–” I cut him off with an enormous hug, my arms squeezing his waist so tightly, I might have cut off my own circulation, before pulling back and snatching the items away from his hands and skipping over to my bed, placing them there as I seated myself down. I then grinned at Connor. “What are you waiting for? Come inside. We’ll watch a movie.” He shut the door behind him and plopped down on the bed next to me, crossing his arms behind his head as he rested his feet on my lap. I shoved his legs off, “Ew.” “Hey, respect the feet.” “Respect the feet? What, is that going to be a new trend? Respectthefeet2k19?” He grinned and pulled out his phone, typing something up before my own phone rang, the sound of a text message notification echoing through. I narrowed my eyes at Connor and opened the message, immediately seeing how he’d sent the tag to Yasmin, Noah, and I. Noah :do i even want to know Me :Probably not Yasmin :Lol Partner In Crime :you guys are just haters Partner In Crime :my feet will prevail Yasmin :What? Me :Go back to doing homework Yaz Noah :lol I shut my phone off before I could see the rant that Yasmin would send me and reached for the TV remote, turning it on as I leaned back against the pillows with the teddy bear in my arms. Connor pouted, “I don’t get to cuddle?” “Nope.” “That hurts, Clumsy.” “Mm, sucks for you.” He narrowed his eyes and before I knew it, he was on top of me. I squealed. “Get off of me, you fat pig!” “Who are you calling fat? These are all muscles, baby.” “If you’re trying to achieve a level of macho, it’s not working.” Connor laughed, sliding off of me so that he was laying next to me. “Hater.” “You love me.” “I tolerate you.” “Yeah, okay. Why’d you get me the teddy bear and chocolates, then?” He opened his mouth to retort before he blinked and then sighed, “Shut up.” I grinned, grabbing the remote again to select a movie when the door burst open and Layla stormed in, her face red with anger as she slammed it shut. I furrowed my brows, watching as she went for the bathroom, “What’s wrong with you?” “Some guys are fucking assholes,” she snarled, and then locked the bathroom door behind her. Connor blinked. “Should we…?” “I don’t think she wants to talk right now,” I murmured, and quickly turned off the TV, grabbing my teddy bear and glancing at the bathroom as I walked to the room’s front door. “Come on, let’s go out for a bit. We can head to the mall.” “Is that some code for you asking me on a date?” “Dial the cockiness to a 2, dumbass.” Connor grinned, throwing his arm around my shoulder as we walked out of the dorm. “You love me.” “Don’t copy my lines.” But all I was thinking about was, what had happened to Layla? TBC…….

Episode 9 Connor and I didn’t come back from the mall until late at night, and when we went or separate ways to our dorms, a horrible realization dawned on me as I stepped inside the dark room. I’d left my teddy bear at the mall. In the midst of buying ice cream, begging Connor to let me get a soft pretzel too, and shopping for clothes while pretending I can afford everything, I completely forgot about Jimmy Bob Joe the Third. And yes, I did name my teddy bear. So, with a panicked expression, I ran out of the room and jogged down to the boys’ dorms, glancing at the numbers until I found Connors’s room. I knocked on it lightly, knowing that if I got caught by the hallway monitor, I was done for, but when no one responded, I did my next action without thinking. I used my bobby pin to unlock the door. The scent of cologne immediately engulfed me as I stepped inside, and I took a moment to breathe before tip-toeing over to Connor’s bed, where I could see his messy brown hair settled against the pillow. Hesitation stopped me for a moment as I saw him sleeping peacefully. Should I really wake him up now? I could go to the mall tomorrow. Don’t you dare abandon your teddy bear. I nudged his shoulder, “Psst. Connor. Wake up.” He pulled the covers tighter around him, his brows furrowing. “Connor,” I hissed. When he didn’t wake up, I smacked him.. “Ow!” I quickly slapped my hand over his mouth, glancing over at his sleeping roommate before gesturing for him to be quiet. Once I was sure he was calm, I took off my hand and watched his reaction. “What the hell? What are you doing in my dorm at this time? How did you even get in? Was this an original plan for you to seduce me? Holy shit, you’re one of those crazy stalkers, aren’t you? I knew–” I smacked my palm over his mouth again, “You’re such an idiot. Quiet down, will you? We have an emergency at our hands.” He immediately sat up, revealing the crinkled white tee he had on and the waistband of his black sweatpants, where it was riding low on his hips and displaying the CALVIN KLEIN label of his boxers. I blinked at it before quickly moving my gaze back to his face, my eyes connecting to his piercing blue ones in the dark. “What’s wrong? Is it Layla?” I tried to ignore his concern for her, “No, it’s my teddy bear.” Connor’s expression fell. “Your what?” “My teddy bear. You know, the one you gave me?” “What about it?” “I left it at the mall.” Immediately, he crossed his arms, ” You’re telling me that you woke me up in the middle of the night, just because you forgot a gift I gave you in the mall?” “Duh.” He stared at me for a few moments. And then he smacked me with his pillow. “Hey!” I hissed, swatting at his shoulder when he went to do it again. “Don’t you ‘hey’ me! You ruined my beauty sleep because of a stuffed animal! ” “You call this beauty sleep? Clearly, it’s not working because you look hideous.” That was a complete lie. Connor was gorgeous and I was almost positive he knew it, whether he just woke up from sleep or not. I was just spewing a lie as to not look stupid. I tended to do that a lot. And usually I failed. “Um, hi?” Connor and I both looked to the other side of the room where his roommate was now sitting up, rubbing his eyes before they focused in on him and I. “Who are you? And what are you doing in our room?” Shit . “Uh…I’m…” “She’s a friend,” Connor reassured. “And she just came by because she was having nightmares.” What. His roommate cocked a brow, “Is that some code for friends with benefits?” My cheeks flushed red, “No! Especially not with him.” Connor gaped at me, “Excuse me? Many girls would love to spend a night with me in–” I elbowed him in the stomach and ended up effectively cutting him off before grabbing his arm and hauling him, shooting an apologetic smile at his roommate, “Sorry, we’ll be going now. Sleep well!” His roommate blinked at us but then shrugged, pulling the covers back over his body, “Later, Mystery Girl.” I dragged River out of the room and shut the door behind him, leaving us out in the dim hallway as I crossed my arms and gave him a pointed look. He yawned, “What? It’s too late for you to be giving me that ‘ you’re-so-stupid-but-I-still-adore-you ‘ look.” I smacked his shoulder. “Ow! Stop abusing me!” “Stop being so loud!” I exclaimed, and then sighed, glancing down the hallway anxiously, “Look, can we just get my teddy bear from the mall?” Connor placed his hands on his hips. “You want to sneak out of this school, go to the mall – which is closed, by the way – and get your teddy bear?” “Precisely.” “I’m not going.” “I didn’t ask for your permission.” “You need my consent!” “You’re acting like we’re about to take a huge step in a relationship!” At that, we both froze, the realization of our proximity dawning on us as we noticed the tiny sliver of space between our lips, almost an inch apart. I blinked, my cheeks flushing red but Connor only shook his head, pulling back before crossing his toned arms across his chest. “We’re not breaking into the mall for your teddy bear. I can just get you another one.” I threw my hands in the air, “But Jimmy Bob Joe the Third was important to me!” “You named your teddy bear?” He then sighed, “Oh, who am I kidding? Of course you named your teddy bear.” He paused. “Look, I’ll just get you one some other time, alright? Go back to sleep now.” I watched as he walked back into his dorm, shutting the door quietly behind him and leaving me standing there like an idiot in the center of the hallway. When he didn’t come back out, I sighed, about to walk away when the sound of the door opening again stopped me in my tracks. “Wait.” I turned, a hopeful smile lifting my lips as Connor stepped out of his bedroom, running a hand through his hair. He then blew out a long breath. “Fine. Let’s go.” TBC………….

Episode 10 “This is all your fault!” “How the hell was I supposed to know there were going to be motion sensors in the entrance?” “Everyone knows that! They announced it when they installed it!” “Well, you could’ve told me about th–” “For the love of Jesus, shut up!” Connor and I immediately snapped our mouths shut, facing forward as the officer in the passenger seat turned and glared at us. “You two have caused enough trouble as it is so don’t make it worse for yourself. Stay silent until we arrive at the station, you got that?” When we didn’t respond, his glare became more vicious. “Yes, sir,” Connor replied, and I internally rolled my eyes. Idiot. It was because of him this whole thing had happened. When we had first arrived at the mall, we hadn’t realized that the cameras were still on (yes, I know, a stupid mistake on our part) and so we went to the entrance where alarms immediately started blaring. Obviously, our first reaction was to panic but then Connor suggested we break it. With a crow bar in his car. Why he had a crow bar in his car in the first place, I have no idea, but he used it to break the alarms and then proceed to pass into the mall. When we got in there, a different set of alarms started firing and we realized they were motion sensors. After deciding that we wouldn’t be able to do it, Connor and I ran out to his car, only to find it surrounded by police. So, now we were being taken to a station at 1 AM in the morning. “My dad’s going to kill me,” I muttered, shifting so that the handcuffs around my wrists would easen up against my skin. “At least your dad will care,” Connor said, softly. I wanted to ask him what was the deal with his father but I never got the chance to because then we arrived at the police station. Swallowing down my nerves, I stepped out of the car and allowed the officer to lead me inside, where another one was waiting for us. He then roughly grabbed Connor and I’s arms and dragged us into an interrogation room. “Hey, watch the arm,” Connor warned, jerking away from the officer when he shot him a glare. “It’s rich people property.” I rolled my eyes and kicked his shin. “Ow!” “Shut up,” I hissed, and sat down when the officer pushed me by my shoulders. Another man entered the room and gestured for the officer to leave. He then sat down and braced his hands against the table in front of us. “Look, kids, I really don’t have time to deal with some stupid rebellious act of yours today because it’s my anniversary with my wife of 20 years and I’m not ready to get my ass kicked by her so we’re going to make this quick and painless, alright? Connorr and I blinked. “What the hell were you two doing in the mall at 1 AM in the morning?” I felt my face heat up as Connor shot me an accusing look, the reason behind the whole thing sounding stupid now that I thought about it. “Well…erm…I…” “English, please.” Sighing, I lowered my gaze to the floor. “I forgot my teddy bear and I wanted to get it back,” I mumbled. Crickets. And then.. “Jesus Christ, I’m quitting this job. I thought maybe you guys wanted weed or some shit from the storage but no, this was all over a teddy bear? Nelson! Get the hell back here and release these teenagers!” He shook his head, rubbing his temple with his fingers, “Wasted my time and just increased how much trouble I’m going to get in with my wife.” The officer from before, Nelson, walked back into the room and unlocked our cuffs before reeling us out and into the hallway. He then crossed his arms and gave a look towards Connor. “What?” he asked, rubbing his wrists. “Your father is out in the front waiting for you.” Immediately, his expression fell. I watched Nelson walk away before I turned to Connor, my brows furrowing in worry when I saw the irritation growing in his eyes. “Connor–” “Leave through the back door,” he ordered, not looking me in the eye. “If my dad sees you, he’ll think that you’re a bad influence and try to get rid of you. It’s better if you guys don’t meet.” “But–” He cut me off with a forced smile. “It’s okay, Kiara. I’ll be fine. Go.” Pursing my lips, I was about to walk away when I turned and grabbed Connor’s shoulder, pulling him into a hug. “What–” “Thank you for trying to get my teddy bear back with me, partner-in-crime.” Connor let out a soft laugh, hugging me back. “Anytime, Clumsy. Anytime.” The next morning was a disaster. It was the first day of our classes at Loland and to say I was exhausted was an understatement. My eyes were red, my hair was a mess, and my face was a sick shade of pale. I did not want to leave the dorm but when Layla smacked my face three times to wake me up, I knew I wasn’t going back to sleep “Leave me alone,” I whined, stuffing a pillow over my head so she couldn’t hit me. “Today’s our first day and you were chosen as one of the students who had to represent Thorne. So get your ass out of the bed and get dressed, so we don’t look like morons!” She paused. “And when you’re done, go to the auditorium. The headmaster wants to announce our arrival.” I grumbled curse words under my breath but rolled out of bed, purposefully pushing Layla’s shoulder with my own as way of payback for waking me up. Unfortunately, I forgot that she was Queen Bitch because she then stuck her foot out and caused me to fall face-forward into the hardwood floor. “Bitch,” I called out as she sauntered out of the room, to which she just flipped her middle finger to. Sighing, I got up from the floor and quickly changed into my uniform before grabbing my bag and rushing out of the room. Several other students were piling into the hallway and I struggled to make my way through them, until a hand latched onto my elbow and caught my attention. “Yasmin!” She grinned, her wild curly hair pulled back into a long braid that rested just above her waist. “Scared you!” “Shut up.” She laughed and dragged us through the crowd, all while chatting happily along. “So what’s the deal with those bags under your eyes? You look like the walking dead.” “Trust me, that’s how I feel at the moment.” “Rough night?” I didn’t miss the slight glint in her eye when she said that so I simply shoved her in response. We finally made it into the auditorium and I searched around until I spotted Layla, Hunter, Noah and the rest of the students that had come with us seated at the very front. Yasmin and I quickly walked over and sat down, me ending up in the row in front of Noah, next to Hunter, and Yasmin next to me. I turned around, furrowing my brows at Noah, “Where’s Connor?” “I dunno.” I pursed my lips and turned back around, just as Mr. Adams came to the stage, silencing everyone in the auditorium. “Good morning, ladies and gentlemen! I am extremely pleased to announce that the exchange students from Thorne Academy have safely arrived at our institute! Please, give a warm round of applause for them.” The audience erupted into loud claps and exaggerated whistles and I laughed quietly before the headmaster quieted them down. “I would like for you all to respect each individual student and help them in any way possible if they need so. They will be our guests for the next 4 weeks and it is important that we treat them with our best. Do not hesitate to make them feel welcome.” He then smiled. “That’ll be all! Now, head on to your classes.” “That was quick,” I muttered as I stood up from my seat. Hunter chuckled, “Well, it was just an introductory assembly.” I flashed him a smile and walked ahead, catching up to Noah as Yasmin did the same. “What class do you have first?” I asked. “Calculus. What about you two?” “Gym,” Yasmin groaned, while I glanced at my schedule. “Oh, I have–” “Glad to see that the so-called king of Thorne has arrived.” I glanced up to see Hunter shooting a sarcastic smile towards a very irritated Connor, who was walking in our direction at the moment. He wasn’t dressed in his uniform, instead wearing a varsity jacket with his last name printed across the back, a white V-neck and faded blue jeans. A disgruntled look was on his face, and when he rubbed the tip of his nose, I took note of the bruise on the side of his cheek. “What the–what happened to your cheek?” I questioned, rushing forward to examine it before he lightly brushed me away. “Nothing. I’m fine. Just got into a fight.” “With who?” “Yeah,Blake, with who?” Hunter taunted, a smirk rising on his lips before Layla shot him a glare. “Hunter, shut the fuck up.” She then walked forward and gently grabbed Connor’s chin, her piercing eyes observing the bruise carefully. I watched with my jaw open. He didn’t push her away. Irritated and feeling something weird inside my chest, I crossed my arms and watched with narrowed eyes as Layla looked up at Connor, her gaze softening. “Are you alright?” Connor blinked before nodding, slowly pulling away. “I’m fine. It’s just a small bruise.” ” It’s just a small bruise ,” I mocked under my breath, and locked eyes with Yasmin, who grinned. Jealous much? she mouthed. I rolled my eyes. I wasn’t jealous. I don’t think… I snapped out of my trance when Noah threw his arm around my shoulders, “Well, man, you could’ve called one of us or something. Kiara here was worried out of her mind!” My cheeks flushed when Connor’s bright blue eyes landed on me, “He’s lying. I wasn’t that worried. Connor smiled, a happy gleam in his eyes that had me turning even more red. “It’s alright, Clumsy. No need to be embarrassed.” “I’m not embarrassed,” I mumbled, pushing Noah’s arm off of me before stepping forward. “Anyway, I need to get to class so see you later.” “I’ll walk you,” Hunter added, and moved towards me with a small smile. “I haven’t gotten the chance to talk to you in ages.” “And you’re not getting the chance now,” Connor pushed him away, sliding in between so that he was next to me instead of Hunter. “Fuck off.” Hunter’s eyes narrowed, “Look, man, you need to watch your tone when you’re talking to–” “Ahem.” Everyone turned to see the headmaster standing in front of us, his arms crossed with a brow cocked. “May I ask why you all are standing in the auditorium lobby instead of going to class like I asked?” His eyes then averted to Connor’s outfit. “And you, Mr. Blake, what are you wearing? You should have your uniform on.” Connor shrugged. “My dad dropped me off and I didn’t have enough time to change. If you have any problems, you can talk to him.” Mr. Adams’s expression fell and I could see the thin line of disapproval forming in his expression. Connoy was playing the ‘rich kid’ card and the headmaster wasn’t appreciating it. “I suppose I can let you go this time. But I shouldn’t see you without your uniform again, understood?” “Sure.” “Good. Now get to class.” And then we watched him walk away. TBC………..

Episode 11 I quietly tried to sneak into my class, knowing that I was late and trying to avoid the teacher’s wrath but as soon as I was about to sit down, he turned and crossed his arms. “Ms. Collins, I’m presuming? You’re one of the exchange students from Thorne Academy, correct?” I tried not to cringe as everyone turned their attention towards me, “Yes, that’s me. Sorry, I’m late. Hallway traffic.” I let out an awkward laugh to which he just gave a blank look to, so I quickly cleared my throat. “So, where should I sit?” He studied me for a moment before exhaling a deep breath, “In the back, next to Mr. Kessler.” I cocked a brow at the name but glanced to the other end of the classroom, where a boy with auburn hair and hazel eyes waved at me. I quickly made my way over and sat down, flashing a smile at him. “Hi. I’m Kiara.” He nodded. “Jack.” “So…what are we doing right now?” “Just notes. He’s taking it easy on us since his wife is pregnant and he’s continuously worrying about her. Told us he doesn’t want to be grading when she’s about to go into labor.” I laughed, “Sounds promising.” He smiled before tapping his pencil against his chin, squinting his eyes slightly. I cocked a brow. “What?” “Nothing. It’s just that…you seem familiar.” He paused, and then snapped his fingers. “Aha! I knew it!” A confused smile formed on my lips. “What?” “You’re the girl that snuck into my dorm last night to see Connor Blake! I called you Mystery Girl, remember?” I let out a breath of relief before laughing. “Yeah, I remember. And I wasn’t sneaking in, I was just…negotiating with him.” “You do realize how wrong that sounds, right?” “Oh, shut up.” A girl in the seat in front of us turned, “Hold on a minute. You snuck into Connor Blakes’s dorm?” I flushed red when other people started turning around. “No, I just needed to talk to him.” “You’re friends with him?!” “Um, yeah?” The girl’s jaw dropped and she immediately grabbed my arm. “Put a word in for me!” “Me, too!” “Here’s my number! Make sure he gets it!” “Oh, he’s so–” “Can you all shut up now? Jesus Christ, this is a science class, not a social hall.” I averted my gaze towards a melanin beauty, with fierce brown eyes and wild, dark curls. She was currently glaring at the group of girls that had started ranting about hitting Connor up, and they all opened their mouths to say something but then thought better of it and turned back around. I let out a breath. “Thanks.” “Wasn’t doing it for you,” was her short reply. When class ended, Jack offered to walk me to my next, and pretty soon when that ended, the day continued on until it was finally lunch time. I arrived to the cafeteria with Noah by my side, having found him singing my name behind me in the hallway when I was walking towards the lobby. We had caught up to each other and were now walking towards the line when Layla cut in front of us, flipping her hair over her shoulder before she grabbed a tray. I rolled my eyes and did the same, stepping forward when an arm wrapped around my shoulders. My gaze met Hunter’s. “Hi?” He smiled, “Hey. Mind if I cut in?” “Actually, she does. Bye.” I glanced behind me to see Connor standing next to Noah, his piercing blue eyes narrowed at Hunter who sighed exasperatedly, dropping his arm from my shoulders before raising a brow at him. “What’s your deal, man? Every time I’m around Kiara, you act like a jealous boyfriend.” “So? What’s it to you? I don’t like you being around her so leave her alone.” I bit my lip. “Connor” Hunter stepped forward. “You know something, asshole? You may think you’re the king of Thorne because of your fath–” “Gentlemen.” I turned my head to see the girl from before who had shushed everyone standing in front of us, her eyes glancing at the two boys before focusing solely on Connor. “Connor,” she stated plainly, “it’s been a while.” Connor’s eyes suddenly lost the fire and were replaced with surprise with a flicker of sadness. “Y-Yeah, it has. How’ve you been?” “Alright. You?” “Hold up, you two know each other?” I questioned, my brows furrowing. Noah coughed, murmuring something like, “Now is not the time,” but Hunter spoke up anyway. “What? Your boyfriend didn’t tell you?” “Boyfriend?” Now, the girl’s expression had become icy. “Hunter,” Connor warned. “What?” I asked. “Tell me what?” “Nothing,” Noah cut in. “Let’s just get some food. We all fell behind everyone during this argument.” Hunter rolled his eyes. “Oh, come on, it’s not even a big deal. Besides, she has a right to know if she’s going to be so close to Mr. I-Rule-The-School here.” “Right to know what ?” I demanded. “That I’m Connor’s ex-girlfriend,” the girl stated stiffly. “Valerie Thompson.” I cocked a brow. “So why would that affect me?” “Seriously, guys,” Noah interjected. “The food. ” But neither of the boys were having it. “Don’t you want to know why they broke up, Kiara?” Hunter taunted. I noticed how River’s fists clenched and said, “I think I’m fine, actually.” “It’s because Cinnor’s daddy was too much of an asshole to—” “Shut the fuck up, Hunter,” Connor snarled. Hunter cocked a brow. “Why? Shouldn’t the girl you seem to be obsessed with know about your ex?” “You’re being a real piece of shit right now, Hunter,” Valerie stated, her eyes fierce as she glanced at the two boys. “Leave them alone. It’s not even your business to tell them.” Hunter held up his hands in mock surrender. “I’m just trying to let Kiara know what she’s getting into.” “I’m not getting into anything,” I said, slowly. “Connor and I are friends.” A flash of something appeared on Connor’s face and he averted his gaze. “Friends,” Hunter repeated, and grinned when Connor’s eyes blazed. “Good to know.” And then he flashed me a smile before he continued on in the line. Episode 12 Pretty soon, Saturday arrived and the date that Jasmine had wanted with all of us was about to come true. I was currently getting ready, tying my hair into a sideways braid as I observed my outfit: a cropped navy blue sweatshirt and high-waisted ripped jeans. It was casual but stylish so I had thought it’d look nice, especially since I didn’t want to put in much effort for a simple outing. Once I was done, I exited the bathroom and noticed how Layla was no where to be found so with a shrug, I walked out of the dorm and met everyone by the school’s entrance. “Hey,” I greeted, once I spotted Connor leaning against a tree, Noah and Yasmin chatting around him. Connor smiled, the sunlight hitting his face just right that he looked like a model. “Hey, Clumsy. Didn’t walk into any doors on the way here?” Connor and I hadn’t really talked since the whole incident with Hunter at the cafeteria, which was just as well because I figured he needed time to cool off. Whatever memories Valerie had brought up for him hadn’t been good and I didn’t want to upset him any further by asking what they were, so I’d given him space Thankfully, it had worked and he was back to being his usual self. I punched his shoulder. “Shut up.” He laughed and threw his arm around me, squeezing me into his side. “I’m just teasing. Let’s get going, shall we?” Noah leaned over to Yasmin as we started to walk, and in a stage-whisper stated, “Twenty bucks says they’ll be dating by the end of this month.” “We can hear you.” “Make that 3 weeks.” I rolled my eyes, turning the street with Connor just as the café came into view. Jasmine was waiting outside, dressed in a pale pink sweater and jeans when she caught sight of Connor, and grinned. “Connor! You came!” She lunged forward and wrapped him in her arms, causing his grip around my shoulders to fall against his side as he staggered back in surprise. “Uh, yeah, I did.” He let out a small laugh, slowly pulling away with a smile, “We all did, actually.” She then noticed the rest of us. “Oh, yes, of course! Let’s head inside.” Yasmin, Noah, and I all exchanged glances before following her and Connor inside, where she led us to a booth in the corner. She slid in to the seat and I took the one opposite her, Connor sitting down next to me while Yasmin sat down next to her and Noah dragged a chair over. Jasmine seemed irritated that Connor hadn’t chosen the seat beside her but she shrugged it off and raised her hand, waving the waitress over. “Hi, we’d like to order a couple of drinks.” The waitress smiled, “Sure, what would you like to have?” We quickly placed our orders and fell into mindless chatter, about school, about how the other academy was treating us, etc, until our drinks arrived. We quickly consumed them before exiting the café, heading towards the mall’s direction when Connor fell a few steps back, his hand encircling my wrist as he pulled me back with him. I raised a brow. “What’s up?” “I wanted to ask you something.” Immediately, a fluttery feeling formed in my stomach. “Yeah?” “My parents…are hosting a ball to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their company. I was hoping you’d be my date for the night.” When he saw my expression, he hurriedly added, “If you’re worried about the outfit, don’t worry, I’ll pay for everything. I just need you there.” “It’s not that but…why me?” At this, his lips curled into a smile and he playfully nudged my shoulder. “You’re my partner-in-crime. Who else would I choose?” A light blush spread across my cheeks and I nodded. “Alright. I’m in. But there better be good food.” He smirked, “The best, sweetheart.” Rolling my eyes at the term of endearment, I playfully pushed him just as we arrived at the mall. We all entered, excited to shop in the various stores when I spotted the devil’s child in the center, laughing with her friends. I grabbed Noah’s arm. “What’s your sister doing here?” “It’s the mall, Kiara. People come to shop and socialize.” I groaned. “She’s going to murder me in my sleep for this, man.” He furrowed his brows. “What are you talking about?” I shook my head. “Nothing. Let’s just keep going.” Connor caught up to me as I started to make my way towards Hollister, catching my hand in his as he pulled me towards him again. “What do you want now?” He grinned. “Love the attitude, but we have to go shopping, my dear. I owe you a dress.” I rolled my eyes, laughing softly. “You don’t need to do that, Connor. I can buy my own.” “But we have to match,” he said with a pout, and I couldn’t help but give in. He dragged me into a fancy store – still holding my hand, may I add – and gestured for the clerk to help us find a dress. “I need an important anniversary kind of dress. You feel me?” I smacked my forehead. “Connor, that’s not how you find dresses.” “She knows what I mean,” he stated carelessly, and I sighed, looking at the woman myself. “Could you bring me some of your best formal dresses, please?” She nodded and hurried to the back, while I turned towards Connor with a pointed look. “What? I literally said what you said!” I scoffed. “You’re such a liar.” He just laughed. “You still love me though.” “Here we go again with the ‘self-confidence.'” “I sense an undertone of mocking.” “Pshh, never.” A giggle sounded behind us and the both of us turned to see the clerk back with a bunch of dresses hanging in her arms. “Pardon me, but you two are absolutely adorable together. The chemistry is definitely there.” I started gagging while Connor smiled largely, “Thank you, ma’am, it means a lot to us. Now, could we see the dresses?” I gaped at him as he grabbed the dresses and shoved them into my hands before dragging me to the dressing rooms. “I can’t believe you just told her we’re together.” He smirked as I went to shut the door. “One day, Clumsy.” TBC………

Episode 13 Insistent knocking on the door woke me up and I groaned, covering my face with a pillow when it got louder. An object landed next to my feet. “Get up and answer the door! I’m trying to sleep here.” “You get up, Layla,” I retorted. She threw another thing. “It’s for you, you dumbass.” “How do you know?” “Because it’s your boyfriend’s voice echoing from outside of the door.” I sighed, throwing the pillow to the floor before I rolled out of the bed and walked to the door, rubbing my eyes and attempting to smooth my bed hair before I opened the door and glared at Connor. “What the hell are you knocking so early for?” I nearly snarled. He just gifted me a grin. “I have a surprise for you.” “Is it a bat? Because I’d really like to swing one at your head right now.” “You’re cute when you’re violent,” he chuckled, and reached behind him to pull out a stuffed animal. But not just any stuffed animal. Jimmy Bob Joe the Third. I gasped, “Is that mine?” “No, it’s Jennifer Lopez’s.” He rolled his eyes and handed it to me. “Of course it’s yours, Clumsy.” I squealed and hugged it to my chest. “Thank you so much!” “Shut the damn door! Some of us are trying to sleep!” I scoffed at Layla’s petulant complaint but stepped out of the dorm and closed the door behind me anyway. “How did you find him?” “Well, after we came back here from the mall yesterday, I realized I could’ve asked one of the workers if they had seen the bear. So, I called them and they said they’d just put a price tag back on it and placed it on the rack so this morning I went to get it.” “How’d you know it was mine?” Connor smiled and grabbed the bear from me, turning it so that on the back of his bow tie, there was scrawly handwriting that read, For Clumsy . I grinned. “Smart.” “I try.” He handed the stuffed animal back to me, and I immediately held it to my chest, beaming down at it when Connor’s phone buzzed. He pulled it out from the pocket of his sweatpants and scanned the message over before looking up at me. “Sorry, I gotta go. Coffee with Jasmine.” I blinked. “What?” “She asked me if I wanted to hang out with her again today and I said sure. Don’t have much else to do, anyway.” “Oh.” For some reason, a heavy feeling had set in my stomach but I shrugged it off. “That’s nice.” Connor shrugged. “I guess. You want to tag along?” “Me?” I asked, dumbly. He laughed, “Yes, you, Clumsy. Do you want to come with?” I swallowed, not knowing how to respond. I really wanted to go with him so that it wouldn’t end up as a date between him and Jasmine, but at the same time I didn’t want to be the girl to ruin Jasmine’s chances. I wasn’t like that. So, with a sigh, I shook my head and forced a smile. “Nah, it’s all good. I’m planning on heading over to my house anyway. You know, to spend some time with my dad.” A flicker of disappointment appeared in Connor’s eyes before it disappeared and he smiled back, “It’s cool. See you later, then.” I gave him a wave before turning and entering my dorm, shutting the door softly behind me with a sigh. I then set my teddy bear down on my bed before heading to the bathroom, about to step inside when Layla’s voice spoke out. “Prince Charming stole your slipper and didn’t give it back?” I paused and chuckled. “That’s a funny way of saying he broke my heart, but no, he didn’t. Just has to go meet someone else.” Layla sat up on her bed, her hair perfectly in place unlike mine, which was probably a rat’s nest as she squinted at me. “You’re a bad liar.” I rolled my eyes. “I’m serious. I’m fine.” “You’re fine, sure, but that doesn’t mean you’re happy. Think. Does having Connor and Jasmine as a couple sound appealing to you?” I thought about it, and as much as I hated to admit it, it didn’t sound nice at all. But I wasn’t going to confess that to Layla of all people so I decided to change the topic. “How’d you know it was Jasmine?” She shrugged. “I may have been listening. Figured if he ruined my sleep, I may as well hear why.” I chuckled under my breath, turning away so I could step into the bathroom, but Layla stopped me once more. “For the record…you and Connor would look much better together.” I caught her eye and noticed the small smile playing on her lips as she winked and fell back into the bed, just as I walked into the bathroom and let out a deep breath. My eyes met my reflection in the mirror and for a minute, I thought about what Layla had said and felt a smile take over my face, a fluttery feeling forming inside my stomach that had me warm and fuzzy all over before I froze. Oh, no. Did I like Connor? 〽CONNOR〽 I sighed as I played with my drink’s straw, trying to keep up with the continuous babbling Jasmine was doing but it was hard. All she was talking about was her new puppy, and as adorable the picture was that she showed me, it was getting annoying. I was snapped out of my thoughts when Jasmine suddenly grabbed my hand, catching my attention as I looked up at her in confusion. “I have an idea,” she said, excitedly. I raised a brow. “And that is…? “We should go to your parents’ company’s anniversary ball together! Oh, it would be amazing! We’d be that couple that looks stunning with or without the other and–” I cleared my throat and gently pulled my hand out of her grasp, giving her a polite smile. “That sounds…great, Jasmine, but I already have a date. I’m sorry”. Immediately, the excitement faded from her expression. “What? Who?” I felt a blush rise up on my cheeks. “Clumsy–I mean, Kiara.” “Oh.” “Yeah.” An awkward silence settled between us before she smiled. “I’m glad. You seem to like her a lot.” I blinked. “What?” A small laugh escaped her lips, but there was a sadness in her eyes. “Oh, don’t act clueless. Every time I’ve seen you two, you’re teasing her or always smiling. And she the same. It’s quite obvious.” “Oh.” “Yeah. I guess, I should’ve realized then that you weren’t interested in me. But I’m a bit stubborn. I wanted to see if I could get you to like me, anyway.” “Wait, what?” I was finding out all kinds of new things today. “You like me?” “Wow, you really are oblivious.” “I’m sorry–” “It’s fine.” She stood up, grabbing her bag with a forced smile. “I’ll see you around, yeah?” I watched her leave the café and sat there, a surprised look on my face before I shook my head and turned back towards my drink. However, when I went to reach for it, I realized it wasn’t there, and looked up to see Lilly standing in front of my booth, drinking from it with a smile on her lips. “Lilly? When did you get here?” She shrugged and sat down across from me, “I was just sitting in the corner and then saw you here alone. What’s up?” “Nothing much. Just found out some shocking things.” “Like what?” “Well, for starters, the girl that I came here with likes me and I feel really bad because I don’t feel the same.” Lilly’s eyes narrowed. “Was it that Kiara girl?” I shook my head. “No, it was someone else.” I then raised a brow. “Why, what’s wrong with Kiara?” “Oh, nothing. She just seems like a gold-digger.” My mouth parted in shock. “What? ” “Don’t tell me you’re surprised. Haven’t you noticed she’s not like one of us? She dresses in all those baggy clothing and–” “Lilly, you’ve only seen her twice before, once in a Halloween costume and another in a regular outfit that I think she looked great in. And just because she’s not ‘one of us’ doesn’t make her a gold-digger. I’d appreciate it if you didn’t bring up comments like that again.” Lilly rolled her eyes. “Whatever. No need to be sensitive about it.” She then changed the topic. “Do you have a date to your parents’ anniversary ball?” Why does everyone keep asking me that? “Yes, as a matter of fact, I do. Kiara’s my date.” Now, it was her turn to drop her jaw. ” What? ” I blinked innocently, “Is there a problem with that?” “But…I…what?” I stood up, pulling my wallet out before throwing some money onto the table, flashing Lilly a sarcastic smile. “See you at the ball.” And then I walked out of the café. Episode 14 I hummed a tune under my breath as I arrived at my house, a smile forming on my lips when I noticed my dad cleaning the car in the driveway. “Hey, Dad,” I greeted cheerfully, and he looked up at me in confusion before a grin took place on his face. “Kiara! You made it!” He pulled me into a hug and kissed the top of my head before he pulled back, “It feels like it’s been forever since I saw you.” I laughed softly, “Yeah, that’s what a week of being apart does, I guess. How are you?” “I’m fine. Just cleaning up the car, as you can see. Why don’t you head inside and have something to eat? I’ll be in in a few minutes and then we can talk about your week.” I nodded and gave him another hug before I walked past and into the house, shrugging off my coat as I stepped inside. Once I’d hung it up in the coat closet, I made my way to the kitchen and searched the fridge for leftovers when I spotted pasta in the corner. I quickly grabbed it and placed it in the microwave before sitting down and pulling out my phone, scanning the notifications when I noticed a message from Yasmin at the top. Yasmin :I have bad news Me:What is it? Yasmin :Hunter’s planning on asking you to Connor’s parents’ ball Me:Oh no! Yasmin :Exactly i just found out some shocking news Partner In Crime > please come to my dorm < Me Dealing with a crisis too. < Me Can it wait? Partner In Crime > probably I put my phone back into my pocket and quickly fixed myself up before I headed out of the bathroom and back into the dorm, where Layla was now much calmer and perched on the edge of her bed, a tissue balled up in her hands. She took a deep breath when she saw the expectant look I threw her way. “I’m ready to talk.” TBC……

Episode 15 I was livid. Layla was staring at me, almost as if she was scared of my reaction after she’d spilled her reason for crying and I was standing in front of her with a look that could kill. I didn’t blame her for being afraid. Even I felt afraid. But not for her. For Hunter Anderson. “So, you’re telling me that that dickhead has been going around, threatening you to agree to some dumb contract your parents created with his parents to merge their companies together when their children marry, and you haven’t told a single soul about it?” Layla looked away, “It’s not easy to talk about it. Most people would find the situation to be pretty pathetic.” “It’s not pathetic! You’re being forced to do something against your own will, ” I argued, and then placed my hands on my hips, “Tell me, what is he threatening you with?” She suddenly looked embarrassed. “I can’t tell you.” ” Layla.” “I’m serious, Kiara, I can’t tell you!” she protested. “And why is that?” I demanded. “Because…because…” Before she could finish her sentence, the door burst open and Connor stormed in. “This can’t wait anymore,” he stated, dramatically. “Did you know that so many people have a crush on me?” My heart dropped in my stomach and I briefly panicked, thinking he was talking about me. But then he opened his mouth again and relief washed over me. “I mean, first Jasmine came up, asking me if I wanted to be her date to my parents’ ball. Then, Lilly happened to be in the same area and asked me the same thing! And when I told her I already had a date, she decided to insult you. Boy, did I put her in her place,” he muttered, and then glanced between Layla and I. “Did I interrupt something?” Layla beat me to it, “Nope! Just girl talk. I’ll leave you two alone so you can decide what you’re wearing to the ball.” She got up and began walking to the door when I shouted, “We’re not done on this yet!” Layla rolled her eyes but didn’t comment as she exited the dorm, shutting the door behind her. I turned towards Connor, who had his eyebrows furrowed, and i smacked his shoulder. “Ow! What was that for?” “She was about to tell me something important!” “So?” “So, you interrupted!” I smacked him again and he groaned. “Stop hitting me!” “Fine.” I looked away only to turn back and prepare to smack him again, except he caught my hand and smirked. “Nice try,” he teased, dipping his head so that we were eye-level. I felt my cheeks heat up at his intense gaze and yanked my hand away, “Whatever.” Connor chuckled and collapsed onto my bed, throwing his arms behind him as he looked at me, “So, what are we going to wear to the ball? The store we went to last time, you didn’t like anything.” “Yeah, because they were all way too expensive. I didn’t want you to spend so much money on me.” He rolled his eyes and sat up, “I already told you once before, Clumsy. I don’t care if they’re expensive. You agreed to being my date and that means a lot, so the least I can do for you is buy you your dress.” I cocked a brow at him when he got up and held his hand out, “What?” He sighed and grabbed my hand, “Come on, we’re going back to that store and we’re not leaving until you’ve picked a dress.” “But–” “Not a word.” “Connor–” “Ah-ah,” he wagged a finger in front of my face. “Don’t make me kiss you to make you shut up.” Well, that doesn’t sound like a bad idea. But I went quiet. We arrived at the store ten minutes later and Connor walked me inside as he had the last time we’d went, before he walked to the corner where the formal dresses hung and grabbed a bunch, throwing them at me. “Connor!” I snapped, when half of them slipped through my arms to the floor. “What? Oh, sorry. Forgot you had bad coordination.” I glared at his cheeky grin and walked into one of the changing rooms, locking the door before I tried the first one on. It was a deep-blue V-neck dress, that had two cuts on the side that revealed my skin and a low back to go with. The dress pooled around the floor but hugged my figure incredulously, almost so that I felt a bit vulnerable. And God knows that after the stunt that that boy from the party pulled on me, I don’t want to feel vulnerable. But I sucked it up and walked out of the changing room, waiting for Connor’s opinion. He glanced up from his phone and ran his eyes up and down my figure before clicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth, “You look gorgeous, but something tells me you’re not a fan of it.” I breathed out a sigh of relief, glad that he noticed and told him that I would go try on another one. I continued to change until I finally found a beautiful black dress that was long-sleeved with a dipping back, and a thigh-high slit that revealed my leg in an elegant yet almost seductive fashion. I beamed at the way that it moved over my curves, hugging some while leaving others to the imagination. With a grin on my face, I walked out and looked at Connor for his thoughts. He immediately grinned back and nodded. “It looks amazing on you! Plus, now I won’t have to worry about matching my tie.” I laughed, and he smiled at me, “Is this the one you also like?” “Yeah. It fits me really well.” “Great! Change into your clothes and then I’ll pay for the gown.” I nodded and quickly put my clothes back on, giving the dress to Connor for him to purchase. The cashier put it into a large bag and bid us a good night, allowing us to walk out into the parking lot with satisfied expressions on our faces. As we walked, I glanced at Connor, “Thank you, again. You were really sweet today.” He snorted, “I’m sweet every day, Clumsy.” I rolled my eyes, chuckling under my breath, “Either way, thank you.” He didn’t respond for a few seconds before his hand touched mine and our fingers intertwined. “Anytime,” he murmured, and as his deep blue eyes met my own, I felt myself falling for him just a little bit more. Episode 16 “Okay, remember what I told you!” “Remember what? The part where you told me not to call you ‘Clumsy’ in front of your father or the part where you told me not to mention how I’m the guy you tripped and kissed the first day? Or maybe I should mention how we got arrested–” I clamped a hand over Connor’s mouth, glaring at him when I felt his lips curl into a grin underneath my fingers. “You’re unbelievably annoying.” He took my hand off and winked, “Yet you still hang out with me.” I rolled my eyes and faced my front door, “Shut up. Just be good when we’re in front of my dad, okay? I don’t want him to hate you.” His grin widened, “Why? Hoping that I come over again for another dinner?” “I swear, out of all the eligible bachelors who could’ve asked me to be their date, why did it have to be–” Click. Connor and I blinked, turning towards the door to see that it was now open with my father standing in the middle of it, his phone in his hand as he looked at the screen and beamed. “That’s a keeper.” He then tucked away his phone and held out his hand, “Hi. I’m Kiara’s dad, Cole.” Connor looked stunned for a minute before he shook himself out of his daze and smiled, shaking my dad’s hand, “Connor. Nice to meet you.” “Pleasure is all mine. Please, come inside. I’ve been dying to tell someone all of Kiara’s embarrassing childhood stories.” “Dad,” I hissed, and blushed when Connor laughed, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he sneaked a glance at me before taking a step inside. “Don’t mind if I do.” I walked in as well, moving past my father to take off my shoes when he murmured, “He’s almost as good-looking as I was when I was 17. Nicely done.” I cast him a look, “Thanks, Dad.” Connor turned and gestured to his coat in his arms, “Is there anywhere I can put this?” “I’ll take it,” Dad commented, reaching for it. “Kiara, why don’t you go to the living room? I’m almost done setting the table and I’ll call you two when dinner’s ready.” “Sure.” I led Connor to the living room and we plopped down on the couch. An awkward silence filled the air before he chuckled and glanced at me. “And you were worried about me being too blunt?” I rolled my eyes, “Believe me, I’m surprised too. He usually hates the guys I bring.” Connor cocked a brow, “And there are a lot?” I bit my lip, “There haven’t been any since I moved here.” Something flickered in his eyes and he leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees as he propped his chin on his hand. “So, who was your last boyfriend?” I swallowed, remembering the face that had haunted me for a whole summer before I’d finally resorted to begging to my father for us to move. “No one important.” “You mean, you don’t want to talk about it.” When I looked at Connor, he smiled, “It’s cool. I know what the whole awkward-ex story is like.” Not mine, you don’t. “With Valerie, I assume?” He nodded. “Yep. That relationship was a disaster.” I cocked my head, “You didn’t like her or something?” He hesitated before quietly saying, “I liked her too much.” I wanted to ask him what he meant but I figured that if I hadn’t told him my story, he didn’t have to tell me his. When the time was right, we’d both share. My father walked into the room with an apron tied around his waist and grinned, “Dinner’s ready, lovebirds!” “Dad, what–” “Shh. Just go with it. Come on, now. It took me forever to get this chicken Parmesan just right.” I looked to Connor for help but he just winked and stood up, following my dad into the dining room with me groaning behind them. Connor really was right. Here I was worrying about what he would say wrong, and instead my father was doing all the awkward talking. What a life. The three of us took our seats at the dining table, my dad sitting next to Connor while I sat on the opposite side of them. I reached for the food when Dad smacked my hand and gave me a look. “Guests first,” he chided, and turned to River but he only shook his head. “It’s okay. Kiara can go first.” I smiled and took the food onto my plate, enjoying the subtle look of approval that crossed over my father’s face before River took the food after me. We fell into a comfortable conversation about school and whatnot all throughout the dinner, debating whether we enjoyed it better at Loland or Thorne, until the doorbell rang. Dad paused the conversation to go open the door and I took that small time period to thank Connor for acting like (or at least attempting to) a normal person. He laughed and was about to comment when Dad walked back into the dining room with his lips set into a firm line. “What? What is it?” I questioned. “There’s someone at the door for you.” I furrowed my brows and excused myself, walking over to the door to see who it was. However, as soon as I saw the face, I felt the anger surge up inside of me. “What the fuck are you doing here?” I snapped bluntly, glaring at a sheepish Hunter who held out a bouquet of roses towards me. “Be my date to the Blakes’ ball?” I scoffed. The nerve of this guy. “Hell no. Now, get off my property.” “But–” “Well, isn’t this just lovely?” I turned to see Connor stroll up next to me, a lazy smile on his lips as he glanced at Hunter before resting a hand on my waist. “My favorite person in the world has arrived.” Hunter scowled, “What the hell are you doing here?” “Dinner with the dad. So far, it’s going good.” He dropped his voice to a staged whisper, “Although you’re kinda ruining it.” “You fucking–” “Look, Hunter, just go before you embarrass yourself any further, alright? And don’t ever show up at my doorstep again.” “Kiara, wait–” I slammed the door shut without a second thought. Connor grinned at me, “I’m so proud. My baby’s learning.” I rolled my eyes but felt a blush crawl up my cheeks at the use of the endearing term. I didn’t let myself think much of it, though. False hope sucked, and I didn’t want to get an idea of something that would probably never happen. “Let’s go eat dessert, yeah?” I suggested, and laughed when Connor bowed. “After you, m’lady.”

Episode 17 “Oh my God, I look hideous.” Yasmin rolled her eyes, fixing the hem of my dress with a pin between her teeth, “You’re either dumb or incredibly insecure.” “I think a little bit of both.” “You have no reason to think you’re hideous, Kiara. The dress looks amazing on you! Plus, the make-up that I did on your face is making it look even better.” I sighed and glanced at my reflection, noting the soft movements of my gown as I turned, “I don’t know…maybe I shouldn’t have agreed to go as Connor’s date.” “I swear, if you back out now, I’m going to get my grandma’s slipper to chase you out.” A chuckle escaped my lips and I smiled down at her, “Alright, I won’t back out. But don’t blame me if you get a thousand text messages from Connor saying his date looks ugly.” “Do you seriously think Connor would ever say that? He adores you.” Sure. The doorbell rang and I gave Yasmin a panicked look, causing her to grin and hand me my clutch before pushing me out of my bedroom. “Wait, but I–” “You look great! Now, stop worrying and get down there!” She pushed me in the direction of the stairs and I stumbled a bit before I huffed and began to walk down the steps. As I moved, I saw my father walk out of the kitchen to answer the door and watched as Connor stepped in, looking absolutely dashing in his tux. I felt my heart constrict at the way he’d styled his hair, attempting to keep the dark strands in tact but failing when a few curled out. He politely spoke to my father before his gaze slid over to me, and I felt the air get knocked out of my system from the look in his beautiful blue eyes. But of course, I ruined the moment. At the last two steps, my heel caught the train of my dress and I yelped as I tripped over the stairs, flying forward with my clutch soaring over my dad’s head. I waited for the impact of the floor, but when none came, I opened my eyes to see Connor in a fit of laughter as he held me in his arms. “You sure do know how to make a grand entrance,” he chuckled, and I glared at him with burning red cheeks. A familiar click sound was heard and I looked behind Connor to see my dad holding his phone’s camera up again. He then grinned and tapped something on his screen before speaking, ” Aaand post.” “Dad!” That just caused another round of laughter to bubble out of Connor. “Did she seriously trip down the stairs?” Yasmin’s voice called from up the steps, before she groaned. “Way to ruin a moment, Kiara.” “Hey, I thought it was cute,” Connor commented, grinning down at me. “She got so distracted by my good looks that she tripped head over heels.” He looked over his shoulder at my dad, “Sorry, Mr. Collins.” My father laughed, “It’s not a problem, son.” I rolled my eyes and untangled myself from Connor’s arms, pulling away so I could steady myself before I grabbed my clutch from Dad’s hold and cleared my throat. “We can get going now,” I mumbled. Dad held up a hand, “Ah-ah, not yet. I have to take a picture of you two.” “But you just–” “A proper one.” I sighed and allowed Connor to wrap his arm around my waist, holding me comfortably against his side with a smile. Dad snapped a few before asking us for one more, except this time, instead of smiling, Connor bent down to kiss my cheek just as my father took the last picture. My mouth parted in surprise and even my dad raised a brow but there was a hidden meaning behind his expression, unlike mine. Yasmin squealed from behind us and I quickly pulled away from Connor, feeling my cheeks grow hot as he looked at me. “Now, can we go?” I asked, impatiently. Dad grinned, “Now, you can go.” I was the first one out the door. Connor and Yasmin followed after me, laughing quietly as they bid my father goodbye before Yasmin went to her car and Connor came to his. I stood against the passenger door, not making eye contact with him as he unlocked it and pulled it open for me to sit inside. I slid in and waited for him to get in the car too before I buckled up. As we started driving, he spoke, “If I’d known that a kiss on the cheek was all it took to make you quiet, I would’ve done it ages ago.” I gaped at him, “Excuse me?” A smile twitched on his lips, “You heard me.” “Are you implying that you don’t like me talking?” “I’m implying that it’s a little bit more peaceful when you aren’t.” “Fine then,” I responded, hotly. “I won’t talk for the rest of the evening.” Connor laughed and reached over to take my hand in his, “I’m just kidding, Clumsy. I love it when you talk. It keeps me from thinking about all the issues I have otherwise.” That peaked my interest, and I turned towards him, “What issues do you have?” “What issues don’t I have would be a more fitting question,” he muttered. The atmosphere quickly dropped in the car and I decided to change the topic. “So, this ball. Will I need to be super fancy and raise my pinky when we drink tea?” Connor laughed, glancing over at me with amusement in his eyes, “No, but you will need to know how to dance. There’s a waltz somewhere in between and you’re my partner.” I groaned, “Why didn’t you tell me this before? You know how clumsy I am!” “I know, which is why I wanted to see your reaction after I knew that there was no way for you to back out,” he snickered. I smacked his shoulder, “I can’t believe you!” “Relax, Clumsy, I won’t let you embarrass yourself in front of anyone. In fact, I’ll make sure that the spotlight isn’t on us when we are dancing, okay?” “Okay,” I muttered, when another thought popped in my head. “Is Noah coming?” “Yep. Layla, too. She’s bringing her older brother.” “That means Lilly’s coming,” I stated. “Yeah…” Connor glanced at me, awkwardly. “I don’t really want to interact with her tonight, if that’s okay with you.” That’s great with me. “Yeah, sure.” We spent the rest of the car ride in silence until we finally arrived at the grand hall where the ball was being hosted. Connor had the car parked by a valet before he offered me his arm and we headed inside. Immediately, we were surrounded by men and women dressed in extravagant clothing, greeting Connor as if he was a crowned prince and sending fake smiles my way. I felt extremely insecure among everyone and Connor must have sensed that because he led me away from the crowd to a secluded corner where a man and a woman stood. They were speaking in hushed tones until River cleared his throat. “Mother, Father.” Connor’s parents turned and immediately beamed at the sight of their son, his mother coming forward to kiss both of his cheeks while his father sending a nod his way. “Connor, dear! You’re here!” He smiled, “Yes, I am. And I brought someone very dear to me as my date. Mother, meet Kiara Collins. She’s a fellow classmate of mine.” His mother’s eyes snapped over to mine and I felt my heart drum in my chest, suddenly worried that she would be all rude and closed-off like the rich parents were in the movies but what I didn’t expect was for her to grin and engulf me in a hug. “Oh, how wonderful! She’s just like you described her; beautiful and exuding confidence! Ah, I love what you did with your hair,” she squealed. I grinned, “Thank you so much, Mrs. Blake.” “Oh, please, sweetheart, call me Delilah! Any friend of Connor’s is a friend of mine.” Connor smiled at her before he glanced at his father, his smile fading. “And Kiara, this is my father, Zachary.” Zachary gave me a forced smile, “Pleasure to meet you.” He then turned to Connor, “Where is the young Layla? I must talk to her parents.” Connor’s eyes filled with disappointment, “I don’t know. Around here somewhere, probably.” “Yes, well, I’ll go find her. Delilah?” Connor’s mother sent us another smile before she placed her hand on her husband’s arm and allowed him to lead her away. Once they were gone, I turned towards Connor, “Your mother seemed nice.” “Wish I could say the same for my father,” he mumbled, and sighed. “I have to go greet a few of the other guests so will you be fine here? I chose the snack table since I knew it would keep you busy.” I grinned, “You know me so well.” He chuckled and slipped through the crowd, disappearing behind the many talking men and women, and leaving me to turn towards the food. I reached for a particularly rich-looking snack when a voice startled me. “Kiara!” I jumped and held a hand against my chest to look at Layla, letting out a sigh of relief before smacking her shoulder, “You scared me!” She laughed, “I’m sorry. I’m just really happy.” “Why is that?” I asked, popping a snack into my mouth. “Because I found a solution to my Hunter-problem.” My eyes widened and I looked at her, “Seriously? What?” “My brother.” My brows furrowed, “Your brother?” “He knows someone who can help me out of this situation. Here, I want you to meet him.” She turned and grabbed a young man’s arm, pulling him up behind her with a grin. As soon as I saw his face, my heart started throbbing painfully and I felt the food in my hand slip back onto the tray on the table. Because standing right next to Layla, was none other than Axel King. My infamous ex-boyfriend. TBC………

Episode 18 He was smirking. Those familiar lips that had whispered sweet nothings into my ear dozens of times were now twisted into that cocky smirk that had both infuriated and excited me. But now, all it did was piss me off. “Kiara?” Layla called my name, her brows furrowed. “Are you alright?” I cleared my throat and brushed my hands against my dress, “Yeah, I’m fine.” I then forced a smile and held out my hand for Axel, “Nice to meet you.” Axel’s dark eyes glinted with amusement as he – instead of shaking – took my hand and brought it up to his lips, softly kissing it with a sly smile on his face, “The pleasure is all mine, love.” Love. I used to love him. Now, I couldn’t even bear him. I snatched my hand away and sent a smile Layla’s way, “Excuse me.” I then grabbed my clutch and slipped through the crowd, searching for an exit when I spotted the women’s bathroom. I hurriedly ran inside and walked over to the sink, breathing heavily as memories of Axel poured into my mind. Why did he have to come back now? My mind screamed. When I was doing so well? Tears formed in my eyes and I blinked them away, not wanting to ruin my make-up by crying. He’s not worth your tears. “Damn right, he isn’t,” I muttered to myself. “I see time hasn’t changed your habit of talking to yourself.” My blood froze in my veins and I turned to see none other than the devil himself standing against the wall, an arrogant smile on his lips. “What the hell are you doing here?” I snapped. “This is the women’s bathroom.” “Oh, but you never used to care about that before,” he mused, pushing away from the wall with a dirty glimmer in his eyes. “Don’t you remember?” I did. I remembered the way that my fifteen-year-old self would giggle at the phrases Axel would whisper. I remembered how we’d stumble into the girls’ restroom, our hands a fumbling mess and our names a whisper among each other’s lips. We hadn’t done anything crazy in there but there had been a lot of intense make-out sessions. And I remembered each and every single one of them. “I can see it in your eyes,” Axel murmured, pulling me out of my thoughts as he came to a stop right in front of me. “You miss us. You miss me. ” His fingers brushed a strand of hair away from my eyes, cupping my cheek, “But I’m here now. And you can have me.” I saw the raw truth in his gaze, the want he held for me but then the flashes of the night he’d broken my heart came to mind and all I could see was the girl he’d had pressed up against the bedroom wall, the girl he’d kissed and whispered seductive promises to. The girl that hadn’t been me. “Get the fuck off of me,” I snarled, shoving his chest hard enough so that he stumbled back. “I don’t know what kind of sick image you’ve created in your head but you and I are not getting back together.” I could’ve sworn hurt flickered in his eyes before his jaw clenched, “It’s only a matter of time.” And then he left. I inhaled a deep breath and collected myself before I exited the bathroom as well, making eye contact with Axel from across the ballroom before I felt someone’s hand grab mine. “Kiara! There you are! I’ve been looking all over for–are you crying? ” I turned towards Connor and hurriedly wiped my eyes, forcing a laugh as I shook my head, “Crying? No, of course not. Why would I be?” His blue eyes darkened with concern, “Kiara–” “I’m fine, Connor. I promise. Now, can we go grab a seat? Preferably one near the buffet table.” It was a joke but Connor didn’t laugh. Instead, he looked hesitant, before he nodded and wrapped his arm around my waist, leading me towards a table near the front of the stage where Connor’s parents stood. He pulled the chair out for me to sit on and then took his own seat as well, flashing me a small smile before he faced forward. A part of me wished I could tell him what had happened in the bathroom but I didn’t want to bother him with my problems. This night was about him, after all. I needed to let him have some peace from my problems. I sighed, anxiously twisting my fingers in my lap as I stared up at the stage when a warm hand tangled itself with mine, squeezing them to prevent them from moving. I looked up at Connor with a sheepish smile, “Sorry.” “No need to apologize,” he stated, leaning back in his seat. “It’s just another excuse to hold your hand.” I blinked, my jaw dropping at his blunt use of the words before a blush bloomed across my cheeks. I hastily looked away, but not before glancing at his expression to see a smirk on his face. “Smooth bastard,” I muttered. He grinned wickedly, seeming to have heard me as he raised my hand in his to his lips and brushed a feather-light kiss to my knuckles, “I try.” “Yeah, way too hard,” I said sweetly, before I snatched my hand away. A chuckle escaped him but he didn’t say anything else, leaving me to believe that he didn’t really think that I was annoyed, considering my face was still burning as bright as a tomato. I ignored his little snickers and instead paid attention to Mr. Blake’s announcement as I reached for my water glass. “Ladies and gentlemen, it is to your utmost pleasure and gratitude that my family’s company has made it this far and for that, I’d like for a round of applause.” Everyone clapped lightly, some even going as far as whistling in the back before Mr. Blake gestured for us to stop. “That being said, I’d like to address the impending topic of who will be the next heir to my company.” He suddenly smiled, his gaze landing on Connor, “And that would be my son, Connor.” “Goddammit,” he muttered, before forcing a smile onto his face and standing up, allowing the guests to clap for him before he sat down again. “So, you’ll be in charge of a company, huh?” I teased, and he rolled his eyes. “Don’t even start.” “Oh, come on, I think it’s pretty cool. To have that much money and fame at that young of an age?” I waved my hand, “I wish.” “Money isn’t everything,” Connor muttered. “True,” I mused. “But it’s not nothing either.” Connor fell quiet and we listened to the rest of his father’s speech before the music started and it was time for the dance. I shot him a nervous look when he grinned and held his hand out to me, gesturing to the center of the room with his head. “I am going to die ,” I whispered, allowing him to lead me to the dance floor. “Like I will literally humiliate myself to death.” Connor chuckled, “Extra much?” “Very much.” A smile graced his lips and he swept me into his arms, his hand resting comfortably on my waist while the other held my own hand. “Well, you don’t need to worry because I won’t let you fall.” I looked into his blue eyes, the ones that I had suddenly loved looking into and I felt myself sighing inside. But you already have. TBC……

Episode 19 “This group project sucks,” Noah groaned, falling back onto the couch as he glanced at his watch for the billionth time since I’d arrived. I sighed, sitting back as well, “You’re telling me. Everyone was supposed to come here an hour ago.” We’d transferred back to Thorne two days ago and as our welcome back gift, our world studies teacher had assigned a project for the four of us, meaning me, Layla, Noah, and Connor. Currently, Layla and Connor were running late and I was getting increasingly anxious that something had happened, however when the doorbell rang seconds after, a relieved breath escaped my lips and I went to answer the door. Except Lilly – wherever the fuck she appeared from – beat me to it. She flashed a smug smile before she unlocked the door and beamed, “Connor, hey–who are you? ” Layla peered at Lilly over her sunglasses before she cast a glance at me, “I didn’t know a child was going to be working with us.” A grin spread across my lips when Lilly’s cheeks flushed red in anger, “I am 14! ” She shrugged, “That’s a child to me. Move aside.” She didn’t wait for Lilly as she shoved past her, giving me a half-sympathetic smile before she strutted into the living room. I covered my mouth with my hand to prevent a snicker from escaping and looked at Connor, who simply side-stepped the fuming ‘child’ before he smiled at me. “Hey, Clumsy.” “Hi,” I greeted. “Thank you for taking your sweet-ass time in arriving.” “Oh, I’m really sorry about that.” He threw his arm around my shoulder, steering me into Noah’s living room, “See, I got a little bit distracted.” I cocked a brow, “Distracted?” He nodded, “Yep. I spent the entire car ride thinking of you.” I froze, my cheeks flushing before I smacked Connor’s shoulder various times, catching his smug grin, “You’re such an asshole.” “An asshole who manages to make you blush,” he corrected, grinning as he caught my hand and squeezed it in his own. “Shut up,” I muttered, snatching my hand away as I looked into his blue eyes. “I turn red easily, that’s all.” “Make all the excuses you want,” he hummed, plopping himself down next to Noah. “You’ve secretly got an obsession with me.” My jaw dropped, “I’ve got an obsession? You just said–” “Mom, Dad, if you could continue this argument later, that would be great.” I rolled my eyes at Noah before I sighed and sat down next to Layla, my face still burning from embarrassment. She laughed under her breath at my expression before she murmured under her breath, “He so likes you.” I just waved her off. We started the project, deciding what each of us were going to do and then proceeding on with it. I took care of cutting out the little sections we needed to glue, Noah did the typing, Layla did the decorating, and Connor did the coloring. We worked on it for a good two hours or so before we eventually got tired and called it a day. Noah then went to the kitchen to go get some drinks for us to have while we all collapsed onto the floor. “That was rough,” Connor commented. “Agreed,” Layla added, checking her nails. “I think I might have scraped my nail polish.” “God forbid your nail polish gets ruined,” I mocked, and she threw a couch pillow at me, laughing. All of a sudden, her phone started ringing and she glanced at it before answering, “Axel? Hey, what’s up?” She looked at the door, “Oh, you’re here? I was planning on chilling with the group. Do you want to come in?” She paused before shouting towards Noah, “Noah, can I invite my brother in?” Please say no, I pleaded in my mind “Yeah, sure!” I will remember this betrayal, Noah. “Yeah, alright, I’m opening the door,” she told Axel through the phone and got up to do so. I immediately stood, “I need to go to the bathroom.” Connor glanced at me, “And I should care, why?” I rolled my eyes and hurriedly walked into the restroom, shutting the door and locking it behind me just as I heard Axel step in. “Woah, that looks like a train wreck,” he commented, and chuckled. “Who cut the paper?” Of course he noticed the paper. “Kiara did,” Connor answered, laughing to himself. “She’s a mess.” I could imagine Axel’s eyebrows shooting up in surprise as he asked, “Kiara’s here?” “Yeah, she’s in the bathroom.” I smacked my palm against my forehead and pulled out my phone, opening up my messages to text Connor; Me > Stop exposing me!!! A minute passed by. Partner In Crime > what? Me > Just stop talking to Axel about me. Partner In Crime > uh ok then I took a deep breath and shoved my phone back into my pocket before I unlocked the door and stepped out. I avoided all eye-contact with Axel and instead sat down next to Connor, reaching for my drink. “What was that about?” he murmured in my ear. “I’ll explain later,” I grumbled, taking a sip. “So, the child from before,” Layla began. “Who’s unwanted sibling was she?” “You guys are so mean to her,” Noah laughed. “She’s my little sister. She’s not that bad, I promise.” “Oh, I beg to differ,” Connor and I muttered at the same time, before we cracked a smile at each other. Axel noticed and scowled, until he spoke up, “So, Kiara, how are you fitting in around here? You know, since it’s a whole new setting from your last school?” I glared at him, “Fine.” “How did you know Kiara was new?” Connor asked, brows furrowed. “Did Layla tell you?” “Oh, no, actually– Wait. ” Suddenly, a smirk spread across Axel’s lips, “You didn’t tell them?” “Tell us what?” Noah questioned. “Axel,” I warned. “Kiara’s my ex-girlfriend,” he explained, a smug grin adorning his face as he watched me glower at him. “I’m practically the reason she moved.” Connor spit out his drink, his jaw dropping, ” What? ” So much for ‘later’. TBC….Please don’t forget to like and comment( it means a lot) And thanks for reading….

Episode 20 “Why didn’t you tell me?” The question came from Connor and I flinched back, not wanting to explain that it was still a sore topic for me. Axel, on the other hand, grinned. “Yeah, Kiara, why didn’t you tell him?” Layla looked shocked as she stared at the both of us, while Lilly and Noah were just wide-eyed throughout the entire encounter. Connor was the only one who seemed truly upset by the confirmation, unlike Axel, who was smirking. “I didn’t think it was important,” I mumbled. Connor shook his head and stood up, “I can’t believe this.” “Connor, wait–” But he was already out the door. I shot a nasty glare towards Axel before I stood up too, grabbing my things and proceeding to run out after Connor. He was about to get into his car when I yelled his name again. “Connor! Come on, at least let me explain–” ” Explain? There’s no need for you to explain!” he blurted, and I stepped back from the look in his eyes. “I told you who Valerie was when you first met her, so why didn’t you tell me that Axel was your ex?” “Because!” I threw my hands in the air, “It was a sore topic, okay? And besides, I met Valerie by chance and she was the one who told me she was your ex. My reaction wasn’t half as bad as yours.” “Of course, because according to you, we’re ‘ friends ‘,” he mocked, before he started opening his car door again. “I don’t understand why you’re so upset about this!” I blurted, watching as his movements froze. “I mean, he’s my ex- boyfriend, meaning, we’re not together anymore! Why are you getting so mad about it?” “I don’t know!” he exclaimed, suddenly stepping so close to me that my breath faltered. “I don’t know why I feel weird inside, knowing that out of all people, it’s Axel King who was your boyfriend and I don’t know why I feel like punching him in the face for it but–” He abruptly stopped, studying my face with burning blue eyes. “What?” I asked, stupidly. Before I could even process what was happening, Connor’s hands had suddenly cupped my face and he was kissing me. The warmth of his lips against mine created a dizzying and intoxicating effect that I wanted to last forever, but as soon as the kiss had started, it ended just as quickly, and Connor was pulling away with his eyes wide and his cheeks flushed pink. “I-I’m sorry,” he blurted. “I-I don’t know why I…” However, before he could finish his sentence, he shook his head and got into his car, quickly pulling out of the driveway without even giving me time to react. I stood there, stunned for a moment, before my hand came up to touch my lips, that still tingled from the sudden kiss, and I rushed back to my senses. “Holy shit,” I whispered. “Holy shit. ” My crush had just kissed me. Could it be? Oh my God, did Connor like me back? My face suddenly turned a bright red until I realized I was still standing in Noah’s driveway, and I turned to see Axel and Noah standing at the doorway, Axel’s expression one filled with anger and something akin to sadness. I smirked at him. Serves you right, asshole. Noah, on the other hand, was grinning like a madman. I blushed harder, “Noah, if you’re done fangirling, could you please give me a ride home?” “Yeah, sure! Let me get my keys first.” He went back into his house and came out a moment later, jogging down the front steps before he gestured toward his car, “Get in.” I slid into the seat and waited for him to sit down too before I blurted, “Has Connor ever mentioned that he might like me?” Noah simply smiled. CONNOR I was flustered as hell. A blush had permanently stained my cheeks and I couldn’t get rid of it, not when I’d kissed Kiara and gotten into my car, not when I’d handed my keys to the valet to park it in my house’s driveway, and not when my butler had asked me if I needed anything to drink. In fact, it had seemed to worsen from the time that it had originally bloomed and I was getting increasingly irritated by it. “Hey, sweetie, Michael said you didn’t want to–what’s gotten you so red?” I groaned and fell back against my bed as my mom stopped mid-sentence and grinned, wiggling her eyebrows. She stepped into my room and closed the door behind her, walking forward until she was also lying next to me. “I kissed Kiara,” I confessed. She squealed and sat up, “Really? That’s amazing! How did she react?” “I…I don’t know. I got into my car before I could see,” I mumbled, embarrassedly. Her expression fell, “You just left? ” When I hesitantly nodded, she smacked my shoulder, “Connor Blake, that is not what you do when you kiss a girl!” “I know, I’m sorry! I panicked and couldn’t think of anything else but to run,” I babbled, before covering my face with my hands. “I’m such an embarrassment.” My mom gently tugged my hands away from my face and kissed my forehead, “You are anything but. You know, once upon a time, your father reacted the same way.” My brow cocked, “Now is really not the time for old fairytale romances, Mom.” She laughed, “I know, sweetheart, but my point is that he almost lost me because of it. So, if you really like this girl enough to kiss her, don’t run away from her because she won’t wait for you forever.” I sighed, “I know.” She smiled at me and kissed my cheek before she got up and left the room. I watched her go before I glanced at my cellphone and sighed. Time to talk feelings. TBC……. Hope you liked it?….Thanks for reading…. And don’t forget to like and comment encouraging words….

Episode 21 I arrived at school the next day with my heart in my throat as I wondered what I was going to say to Connor. “Hey, Connor! I know we’re supposed to be strictly professional considering we’re partners-in-crime but as it turns out, you’ve stolen my heart, HAHAHAHA. Get it? I’m gonna go die in a hole now.” Yeah, no. As I made my way to my locker, I found that the whole group was there. Except for Connor. My expression fell and I sighed, forcing a smile onto my face as I greeted them all. “How come you didn’t tell me that my brother was your ex?” Layla questioned, her brows furrowed. “I wouldn’t have been mad.” I shrugged, “I know, but I didn’t know he was your brother. His last name was King and yours was Benson.” “Oh, yeah, he’s my step-brother, but you still could’ve told me when you realized at the ball.” “Layla, drop it, obviously it’s not a topic she feels comfortable talking about,” Noah chided, and I sent him a grateful smile. Layla winced, “Sorry. I didn’t mean to come off as rude or anything.” “No, you’re good,” I said with a laugh, and then turned to Yasmin, secretly asking her the question I’d been dying for an answer for through my eyes. Is Connor here? She shrugged, and I sighed again. “I think I’m just gonna get to class now,” I stated. Noah frowned, “But we didn’t even grab a bagel from the cafeteria.” “I’m not feeling it. You guys go ahead!” They all watched me with a sympathetic glint in their eyes as I walked away, my heart feeling like stone in my chest as I trudged down the hallway. Of course I have that kind of luck. The guy I have a crush on kisses me and then disappears. Isn’t that amazing? I was snapped out of my thoughts when a hand wrapped around my wrist and yanked me into a dark room. I let out a surprised yelp when I fell into someone’s arms and when I looked up in the darkness, I found piercing blue eyes staring back at me. My breath caught in my throat. “Connor?” He grinned, sheepishly. “Hey, Clumsy.” I smiled back at him with a blush on my cheeks and straightened myself up, glancing at our surroundings. “Why are we in a janitor’s closet?” “It was the first place I could think of where we could have some privacy,” he explained, chuckling lightly. “Sorry if I startled you.” “No, it’s all good,” I stated, waving my hand dismissively before an awkward silence enveloped us. We stared at each other through the darkness for a few moments before we blurted, “I like you!” My eyes widened and so did Connor’s before we both blushed like maniacs. He rubbed the back of his neck embarrassedly while I laughed like an idiot. “Sorry, you can go first,” he mumbled. “No, you can,” I protested. “No, it’s fine, you ca–” “For the love of God, one of you go first!” a voice shouted, and I quickly recognized it to be Noah’s. “What the hell are you doing?” Connor hissed at him through the door. “Uh, totally walking to my class,” he announced. “Noah, let them have their privacy!” Yasmin scolded before the sound of her dragging him away was heard and peace and quiet was restored. I chuckled and looked at Connor. “Okay, I’ll go first. I really, really like you, Connor Blake. And as embarrassing and cliché as this whole entire situation is, I’m glad that I feel this way with you .” His lips formed into a large smile and he laughed softly, “Well, isn’t that funny.” I frowned, “What is?” His arms came to wrap around my waist and I blushed when he pulled me up against his chest, his eyes glinting with happiness as he murmured, “That I feel the exact same way about you, Kiara Collins.” I grinned and moved forward to kiss him when my foot stepped on the stick of a broom, causing me to lurch forward and end up kissing his shirt instead. I groaned in embarrassment my face turning a bright shade of red as Connor began laughing, the sound echoing in the tiny room we were locked in. “Trust you to ruin a moment,” he chuckled, and I buried my face into his shoulder. “Shut up,” I mumbled. “This is by far the worst thing I’ve done.” “Worse than you tripping and kissing me on your first day?” he teased. “Stop,” I groaned. “You’re embarrassing me.” He laughed again and this time maneuvered my head so that I was facing him, his fingers gently tilting up my chin until we were looking into each other’s eyes. “It’s okay,” he softly said. “Because I’m still absolutely fascinated by you, ruined moments and all.” I felt my lips curl into a smile and I reached up to finally kiss him, his mouth perfectly morphing with mine as his grip on my waist tightened, pulling me closer. There was a thrill in knowing that the person you were head over heels for, liked you back and as I locked my arms around Connor’s neck, I thought of how Axel had brought us together instead of pulling us apart. And that thought had a smile painted on my lips as I pulled back and rested my head on Connor’s shoulder. TBC…….

Episode 22 “Connor, what the hell is taking you so long?” “Well, excuse me if it takes a while for me to get that gorgeous glow you fell for.” I rolled my eyes and glanced at his mother, “Does he always take forever to get ready?” Delilah snorted unattractively before she covered her mouth, “Longer than his father.” “I heard that!” Connor called from up the stairs and we both laughed. A few more minutes later and he finally padded down the stairs, wearing a dark blue button-up and jeans, paired with white converse. He stuck his tongue out at me when his mother gave him a pointed look and then sighed, flashing me a smile. “I can’t believe this. You took practically half an hour to put on such a casual outfit?” I asked, bewildered. “Hey, this ‘ casual outfit’ isn’t just for anyone, it’s for me ,” he stated, pointing at himself. “I needed to look gorgeous so you could drool over me this entire date.” “I’m starting to wonder why I ever liked you.” He grinned and swiftly pressed a kiss to my cheek, leaving me stunned. “That’s why.” He then walked past me towards the front door of his house, “Now, come on, Clumsy. I don’t have all day.” Delilah looked at my flustered state and laughed, “Go on, sweetheart, before he kisses you again and causes you to faint.” I blushed a bright red and scrambled past both of them, fanning my face as I tried to cool myself down when Connor grabbed my hand from doing so and intertwined it with his own. “Ah-ah,” he wagged a finger in my face. “No need to hide your embarrassment.” I groaned, “Why do you always find my misery amusing?” He laughed, “I only find it amusing when I’m the one to do it.” “Asshole,” I grumbled. “I happen to be an asshole you like ,” he mused, grinning when my blush darkened. “Come on.” He tugged me forward and towards his car, where we both climbed in to go to the new movie theater that had opened up. Connor had been dying to see Black Panther and to be honest, so had I, so I had no objections when he’d insisted we buy tickets for it. Besides, I’d been told the playlist was pretty lit. Once we arrived at the theater, Connor parked the car and turned towards me, “You need to know something.” I cocked a brow, “What?” “When we get in there, many people might lunge at us since my family’s so popular. You need to brace yourself. No matter what happens, I will be here to protect you.” I blinked at him before I rolled my eyes, “You’re so dramatic.” He gasped just as I exited the car, climbing out after me and pressing a hand to his heart, “I am not dramatic.” “Right. And I’m not clumsy.” He narrowed his eyes, “You’re mean.” I surprised both him and myself by leaning up to kiss his cheek, “I’m honest . There’s a difference.” “Psh, just ’cause you pulled that cute move does not mean I’m not offended,” he muttered, touching his cheek with a slight blush. I grinned at him, “Sure thing. Can we go inside now?” He sighed and held his hand out for me to take, “Yeah, let’s go.” We entered the theater and bought two tickets for Black Panther before we went to buy popcorn. However, as soon as we reached the counter, the girl working it glanced up and squealed. “Oh my God! Connor Blake!” Connor chuckled hesitantly, glancing around as people turned, “Yeah, that’s me. Could we have a bucket of popcorn, please?” “Oh my gosh, yes, of course! You can have it for free too! Just please sign my forehead!” He blinked as I stifled a laugh. “Y-Your forehead?” She nodded enthusiastically, pulling out a sharpie for him to write with. He looked at me with a baffled look but I simply gestured for him to do so and he took the marker and wrote his initials before handing it back to her and clearing his throat. “Thank you! I’ll go get the popcorn now.” She ran off to go get some and I let myself laugh, clutching onto Connor’s arm with giggles escaping my lips. He rolled his eyes at me and shook his head, “Who’s finding amusement in who’s misery now?” “I am,” I chuckled. “That was too funny.” “You should’ve been there the one time my family decided to go to an amusement park. The ride operator stopped the ride just so she could have my signature.” I laughed, “Seriously? Holy shit, people love you.” “Including you,” he quipped. “So be nice and shut up.” I scoffed. “I don’t love you.” He smiled, “Not yet.” I fought off another blush (I seemed to be doing that a lot today) and glanced towards the overexcited girl, who was walking forward with a large bucket of popcorn in her hands. “Here you go!” she squealed, handing it to us. “And thank you again for signing my forehead!” Connor shot me a glare when I began laughing again and smiled at her, “No problem. Have a nice night.” She beamed at us, “Thank you, I will!” We quickly got some drinks as well before we entered the room that the movie was playing in. Of course, the ads went on for seven centuries but when the movie finally began, everyone immediately quieted. And as the night went on, I realized I wouldn’t want to trade my time with anyone else. CONNOR I had just dropped Kiara back off at her house, and no, as much as I had wanted to, I hadn’t kissed her simply because I wanted to take things slow. I know we’d already kissed three times, but those had been impulsive actions. Now, I wanted to get to know every little detail about her before we dove deep again. As I entered my house, I handed my keys to the valet when I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket and I pulled it out to answer it. “Hello?” “Connor” Layla blurted. “I’m freaking out.” My brows furrowed, “Why, what happened?” “Our parents signed a contract,” she breathed. “A contract? On what?” She took a deep breath, almost as if she didn’t want to answer before she did. “You and I have to merge our parents’ companies…by marriage.” TBC……….. How was it?? Episode 23 CONNOR “What the hell?” My parents glanced up from the dining table as I glowered at them, still wearing my pajamas as they ate their breakfast. “Language,” my father chided. “Don’t preach shit to me about my language when you went behind my back and set me up with Layla Benson!” I snapped, slamming my hands down on the table to see my mother flinch. “Sweetheart–” “No, Mom, I took a girl out on a date yesterday and now you’re telling me I’m supposed to marry someone else?” My father narrowed his eyes, “Connor, I think you’re being a little dramatic about this–” “Dramatic?” I laughed, hysterically. “Dramatic isn’t the word, reasonable is. I can’t marry Layla just to merge your stupid companies.” “Mind you, these ‘stupid companies’ will be run by you one day,” Dad commented. “Fuck no,” I spat. “I don’t want any part of this kind of life if it’s being taken away from me.” “I’m not going to tell you again, Connor,” my father warned, his eyes darkening in anger. “Watch. Your. Language. ” I glared at him, ” No. ” “Connor, if you’ll please let us explain–” I cut my mother off as I shoved away from the table, “Forget it. I don’t want to hear whatever shitty excuse you have for this. I mean, you’d think people would learn now that we’re in the 21st century but they just keep disappointing you.” My last words were clipped and I ignored whatever claims my parents made behind me as I ran up the steps to my room and slammed the door behind me, anger and frustration bubbling inside my veins. I need to talk to Kiara, I thought. I need to let her know so we can find a solution. Because I sure as hell wasn’t losing the girl I liked just because of my parents’ foolish decisions. I grabbed my phone and dialed her number, waiting for her to pick up when another call interrupted. Layla.calling Groaning, I answered her. “What, now? Don’t tell me our wedding is next week.” “Tempting, but I’m not getting married to you.” My jaw clenched as I recognized the deep voice, “Axel.” “Hello, Connor,” he greeted, pleasantly. “Why do you have your sister’s phone?” “That’s none of your business.” I rolled my eyes, “Okay, fine, why did you call me?” “Oh, that.” He chuckled, as if I’d just made the joke of the fucking century. “I wanted to let you know that I was the one who came up with this entire plan.” ” What? ” I demanded. “You heard me,” he responded, calmly. “You have something that belongs to me and I needed to get rid of you, so I did. Hope you enjoy your time with my sister. She’s a handful.” “You fucking piece of shit–” He ended the call. I furiously dialed Kiara’s number, now absolutely desperate to talk to her, and I could’ve cried in relief when she answered. “You won’t believe what’s happening,” I babbled. She laughed, “What, did someone else tell you they like you?” “No. Your psycho-fucking-ex created a contract for my parents and Layla’s parents to merge their companies by marrying.” ” What?! ” “My exact reaction.” “You’re kidding, right?” she asked, panic in her voice. “Why would he do that?” I rolled my eyes, “Oh, I don’t know, it’s definitely not because he still likes you and I’m with you.” “Conor!” “I’m stating the obvious! He’s jealous and doesn’t want us together so he did the best thing he could think of: tear us apart.” “Oh my God,” she mumbled. “How come Layla didn’t say anything to me?” “She probably didn’t want to freak you out,” I responded. “But now that you know, help me; how do we get out of this situation?” She was quiet for a moment. “Hello?” “I think…” Kiara inhaled a deep breath, “I think you should do it.” My eyes widened, “Excuse me?” “I think you should marry her,” she responded. “If you don’t, she’ll end up with Hunter, who’s already annoying her and I don’t want her to be unhappy.” “But…but what about your happiness? Our happiness?” I was having a hard time wrapping my head around this. “You’re willing to give up our relationship just to save another one from happening?” “It’s the right thing to do,” she said, quietly. “Have you gone mad? Layla wouldn’t want that and you know it! She’s practically–” “Look, Connor, I’m just saying what I think is right for you. Besides, you kind of deserve someone in your social circle.” My voice turned deadly. “You did not just say that, Kiara Collins.” “It’s the truth. I’m not your–” “–Type?” I finished for her, and laughed humorlessly. “Don’t you think I know that? I can’t help who I like and as weird as this entire situation is, Clumsy, my heart seemed to fall for the slightly crazy klutz who ended up kissing me as she tripped on her first day. I am not ready to give her up. No way.” “Connor, you have to.” “I don’t have to do anything–” “Yes, you do. You need to give me up and save Layla from a terrible marriage.” “What the fuck? Did you not just listen–” She ended the call. I stared at my phone in both shock and frustration. What the hell was going on in everyone’s minds today? Did they not care about my future? Or even, Kiara who tried to play it off and be the good person in this situation. “Fucking hell,” I cursed, and threw my phone onto my bed before I covered my face with my hands. What am I supposed to do? TBC……… Please do comment… Thanks for reading. This was a horrible chapter, lmao. I’m so sorry.

Episode 24 I couldn’t explain how stupid I was. I don’t even know what I was thinking when I told Connor that he should choose Layla, but now that he had, I was sincerely regretting it. They stood, laughing against their lockers as they talked and all I could feel in my chest was hurt and jealousy. I couldn’t blame them though. They’d simply done what I’d asked them to. “Enjoying the show?” a voice commented from behind me, and I grit my teeth. “What the hell are you doing here, Axel? You’re not even in high school.” Axel grinned, walking around so that he stood in front of me, “I know. But I decided I should volunteer to be the subject for the drawing classes.” I glared at him, “Who would like to draw you?” “You did.” He smirked. “Once upon a time.” I rolled my eyes. “Yes, did. Now, I would love to destroy anything that relates back to you.” “You don’t mean that.” “Oh, I very much do. Move it.” “Actually, I think I’ll walk you to class. You know, see how Connor reacts.” My eyes instinctively glanced over at the boy and I felt my heart constrict when I saw the sad look in his blue eyes. He shook his head slightly, as if telling me he was disappointed, before he walked away with Layla. “I’m fine.” I slammed my locker door shut and glowered at him, “Thanks.” I made a move to walk past, but he simply grabbed my arm and dragged me back. “Oh, come on, don’t be like that. We can be friends.” “I don’t want to be friends,” I all but snapped. He smiled, “More than friends?” “Nice try.” “Okay, fine, but can you at least give me a chance?” “Have you not been listening to me in the past five minutes? What does it take to get rid of you?” “A date,” he suggested, leaning forward with that familiar gleam in his eyes that I once adored. “One date to prove it to you that I’ve changed and if I don’t, then I’ll leave you alone forever.” I gave him a clipped smile. “How about you just leave me alone now?” I didn’t give him a chance to respond as I shoved past him and began to walk past, all while the image of Connor and Layla laughing burned inside my head. Stupid jealousy, I thought, before I entered my classroom. “You’re incredibly stupid, you know that?” I shot my dad a blank look, “Gee, thanks, Dad.” “No, I’m serious. I can’t believe you – my daughter – told the boy who you like and who likes you back to give you up just to save another girl from a forced marriage.” He crossed his arms, narrowing his eyes at me. “Don’t you think that’s unfair? I mean, you’re practically doing the same thing to him!” “Okay, but in my defense, he didn’t need to listen to me!” I protested, throwing my hands in the air. Dad rolled his eyes, “Of course he’d listen to you, he’s a guy. And when a guy’s whipped for a girl, he’ll do anything she says. I did the same once.” He smiled, fondly. “With your mom.” I sighed and rested my chin on my hand, “I know, it’s just…I wanted to be the better person. Layla deserves her happiness with someone who isn’t Hunter.” My father shook his head. “That may be true, sweetheart, but that doesn’t mean you sacrifice someone else’s happiness to save another person’s. There’s always another solution, even if it doesn’t appear right away. What you did wasn’t fair for either of them.” I frowned, “But–” “Connor doesn’t have any romantic feelings whatsoever towards the girl, and you’re fooling them both into an unhappy marriage that probably won’t last.” He tilted my chin up so that I would look at him, “Tell me, has Layla told you that she cares for Connor that way?” “No,” I mumbled. “I mean, she used to but now she wishes for Connor and I to be together.” “So, then what are you waiting for? Go get him!” “We have another problem though,” I pointed out. “Axel.” Dad groaned, throwing his head back, “I thought I got rid of that son of a bitch when I chased him away from the house with my baseball bat.” I laughed, remembering the time when my father had found out that Axel had cheated on me and was furious when he showed up at my doorstep, throwing fake apologies at my face. My father had then threatened him to leave but when that hadn’t worked, he had gotten his bat and literally forced him off of our property. “Unfortunately, no. He’s the one who created this entire problem in the first place.” Dad grinned, maliciously. “Then, all we have to do is get rid of him…if you know what I mean.” “Dad, we’re not going to kill him.” “Why not?” he whined. “It’s not like anyone’s going to miss him.” I rolled my eyes, “Anyone ever told you that you’re a bit sadistic for your age?” He kissed my forehead, “I prefer protective, but whatever works. Just let me know how you want me to help you with this and I’ll do my best.” I smiled at him, “Thanks, Dad, but I have to take care of this myself. I’ll let you know if I fail though.” He chuckled and squeezed me into a hug before he released me. “Alright. I’m gonna go take a nap now. Being ‘sadistic’ as you say, is tiring work.” A laugh escaped my lips when he walked away, shooting me a wink before he disappeared up the stairs. As soon as he was gone, I rubbed my temple and leaned forward against the counter. It’s time to fix things back up. TBC…… Buckle up, sweethearts. It’s going down. If you know what I mean

Episode 25 (Grand Finale) “I don’t understand what’s so difficult about this.” I shot Yasmin a look that read as, Really? “You don’t see what’s so hard about going up to the guy you like after you told him that he shouldn’t be with you when he liked you as well and telling him that you suddenly want him back?” She cocked her head to the side, “Nope.” I groaned and glanced over to where Connor was seated at his separate lunch table with Layla and Noah. Noah had decided to switch tables every day since he couldn’t choose sides and Yasmin had remained adamant that there weren’t any sides to choose from when this wasn’t really a legitimate argument. “I can’t do it,” I grumbled. “You haven’t even tried!” “I sent him three texts yesterday and he didn’t respond to any of them!” I blurted, throwing my hands in the air to express my frustration. She sighed and rubbed her temple, “A text is not how you apologize, Kiara.” “I figured he would at least reply,” I muttered. “He just left me on read.” “Don’t blame him.” “Yasmin!” “Hey, I’m being honest!” When she saw my irritated expression, she laughed. “But calm down, I have a plan.” I cocked a brow, “Do I want to know?” “You’ll find out eventually.” I bit my lip and looked over at Connor again, who was now playing with his food with a sullen expression on his face. He reached for his phone, which was lying next to him, and went to type something but at the last moment, turned it off. My heart dropped, and I sighed, turning towards Yasmin. “Okay. Tell me what I have to do.” •-•-• I was going to get arrested for this. I wasn’t kidding. What I was about to do was extremely crazy and unnecessary, and most likely going to fail but at this point, I was simply desperate to have Connor back so I didn’t care. As I leaned against the wall, I strained my ears to hear for any footsteps and when they came, I immediately readied myself. As soon as the door swung open, I launched myself at the person and tackled them to the ground, grabbing their hands and quickly using the handcuffs in my grasp to lock their wrist with mine. The person started shouting curse words at me and as the adrenaline faded from my body, horror sunk in. This guy was most definitely not Connor. “What the fuck, man?!” I blinked at the unfamiliar face that looked eerily similar to Connor’s. “Uh…who are you?” “I should be asking you that!” he snapped, tugging at the handcuffs with his free hand. “Why the hell did you cuff me to yourself?” “I thought you were Connor,” I mumbled, feeling an embarrassed blush rise on my cheeks as I crawled off of him and stood up. The idea had been to use brute force to get Connor to listen to me so Yasmin had gone and asked her father – who was a police officer – if she could borrow a pair of cuffs to use for a ‘school project’. He’d handed it to her without question and she’d given it to me, telling me that I should lock myself to Connor so he’d have no choice but to hear me out. However, as you can see, that plan went seriously down the drain. “I’m not fucking Connor,” the boy snapped, his striking blue eyes flashing with anger as he tugged at the handcuffs again. “I can see that,” I muttered. “Who are you?” “How about you get me out of these handcuffs and I’ll tell you?” “Aspen, where are– what the fuck. ” My cheeks turned an even brighter shade of red as Connor walked into his room, his eyes going wide with shock before anger flooded his expression. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” he asked, stalking up to us and grabbing our hands to see the handcuffs. “Have you lost your mind?” “They were for you!” I blurted. As soon as the words left my mouth, dead silence filled the air. “Oh my God, that is not what I meant—” “Holy shit, you have a kinky one on your hands,” Aspen interrupted, his irritation fading into shock. Connor’s cheeks turned a bright shade of pink. “Shut up, that’s not what she meant.” “Yeah, that’s not! I was trying to get you to listen to me,” I explained. “And you got handcuffs? To do what? Have some unbelievably, mind-blowing se–” ” No! ” I shouted at Aspen, my face burning with humiliation at this point. “I wanted to lock us together so that he’d have no choice but to listen to me!” “You’re crazy.” He looked at me with wide eyes. “And dumb.” “Hey, I am not dumb–” “Kiara, did it work–oh dear, that does not look good.” All three of our heads snapped towards the door where Connor’s mother stood, her hands coming up to cover her mouth as she glanced between us. “You knew about this?” Connor asked, shocked. “I only knew she was trying to apologize, not handcuff herself to your brother!” she protested. My jaw dropped. ” Brother? ” Aspen cleared his throat, “Older brother, to be exact.” “Oh my God, this is absolutely horrible,” I groaned, yanking my hands up to cover my face and in doing so, bringing Aspen forward into my body. Connor’s eyes flashed with irritation. “Okay, first thing’s first, get him out of the handcuffs.” I nodded, shakily looking for the keys in my pocket when my heart fell. Aspen noticed my expression. “What?” “I can’t find them.” ” What? ” All three family members gaped at me. “I’m sorry! I must’ve lost them when I tackled him–” “You tackled my brother?” Connor asked, his eyes widening even more. “Again, I thought it was you!” “What was tackling me going to accomplish?” he demanded. “I told you, it would get you to listen to me!” It was then that I noticed we were only a hairsbreadth away from each other. “Just kiss already.” Both of us glared at Aspen. Delilah sighed, “Alright, kids, you’re going to have to look for the keys. Meanwhile, I’ll ask the maids to go get a few bobby bins in case you can’t find it.” As their mom left, the brothers turned to glance at me. “She’s not that bad,” Aspen commented. “Excuse me?” I looked at Connor, “Have you been talking about me?” His cheeks turned red and he started coughing. “W-What? Of course not—” “Oh, he wouldn’t stop ranting about you,” Aspen interrupted, grinning at the embarrassed look on his little brother’s face as he turned towards me. “In fact, all he would mention is ‘ Kiara did this’ or ‘ Kiara did that’ or ‘ I call her Clumsy ‘, blah, blah, blah. It’s like you’re all he knows.” A smile grew on my lips and I peered up at Connor with pink cheeks. “I didn’t know that.” “If you’d let me be with you, you would’ve,” he sighed, softly. I frowned, “Connor!” “Please,” Aspen cut off, holding his hand up. “If you’re going to do a boyfriend-girlfriend-make-up speech then don’t do it in front of me. I’ve experienced enough trauma for today.” Connor rolled his eyes and I pursed my lips. “Fine. After, then.” “No need.” We looked up to see Connor’s father standing at the doorway of his bedroom, a scowl on his lips. “Father–” “River will be marrying Layla after the both of them turn 20. It is set and you do not need to interfere so I suggest you get yourself out of this mess before I have to deal with you,” Zachary stated, coldly. “Actually, that won’t be necessary.” Now, all of us looked at Aspen. “And why is that?” his father questioned. “Because I’ll be marrying Layla.” Connor and I’s jaws dropped. “What?! ” “I talked it over both with her and her parents, and they agreed it would be better if the eldest son married her rather than the younger one. I left the family for a reason, Father, and it was because I didn’t like being oppressed but I see you’re doing the same thing to Connor. I’d rather it be me than him so if you have anything against it, say it now.” “Mic. Dropped, ” Connor said under his breath, and I snickered. Zachary shot us all a glare. “Your mother would never–” “Actually, I already approved.” Now, everyone turned to look at Delilah, who was smiling. “Is that going to be a problem?” Her husband’s resolve faded and he narrowed his eyes, “I suppose not.” “You’re kidding, right? All it took was Mom to–” I elbowed River to cut him off so that he wouldn’t change his father’s mind. “Ouch,” he grumbled, rubbing his stomach before Aspen cleared his throat. “This is great and all, but can someone please get me out of these goddamn handcuffs? ” “Right! I found the keys,” Delilah announced with a laugh, and brought them forward. As she unlocked them, I looked over at Connor and smiled at him. After a moment, his lips curved up too. “Do I still need to give you a speech?” I asked, once Aspen and I were released from each other. Out of the corner of my eye, I noted how Delilah dragged the other two men out of the room with a sly grin. Connor stepped forward, a smirk forming on his face as he slowly brought his arms up to wrap around my waist. “I don’t know,” he mused, tilting his head. “It might take me a little bit more than–” I kissed him. I couldn’t help it. There was something that always drew me towards River, even when he was mad, and when he softly kissed me back, I realized that he was never mad at me in the first place. Just hurt. “Better?” I asked, once we’d pulled away. His breathing was slightly uneven but he grinned. “Hm, maybe once more?” And I laughed as my lips pressed against his again. TBC……. I wanted it quick, easy, and done. Now the next chapter will be the epilogue, oops…..

Episode 26 EPILOGUE “I am not diving off of that thing.” Connor rolled his eyes, resting his toned arms against the concrete behind him as he leaned into the water. “Oh, come on. Don’t be a scaredy-cat.” I shot him a look. “I’m not being a scaredy-cat, I just don’t like heights. I don’t want to jump off the diving board.” “But Layla’s doing it.” “And?” “And it’s Layla. ” A splash of water was thrown into Connor’s face and I laughed as he glared at Layla, who smiled innocently. “I’m sorry, what did you say?” A deep laugh sounded from behind us and I tilted my head up to see Aspen holding a tray of drinks in his hand, sitting down on the edge of the pool before he handed me one. “My girl’s got sass,” he praised, raising his glass before he drank some of the juice. “I’m not your girl,” Layla muttered, flicking a dark strand of her hair out of her eyes as a blush crawled across her cheeks. “Not yet, you aren’t.” Her face bloomed into a tomato. River and I grinned at each other, secretly shipping them as we toasted our glasses towards each other before we drank. The sun beat down on his pool in the backyard, but life couldn’t have been any better. That is, until I saw Axel’s figure coming forward. I almost spit my drink. “What the hell is he doing here?” “I invited him,” Layla admitted, sheepishly. “He wanted to apologize.” “I don’t want to hear his apologies,” I muttered, glaring daggers as he waved awkwardly at the four of us. Connor nudged my elbow, “Oh, come on, Clumsy. Have a heart.” “He created a contract for you to get married to her!” “And you told me I should go through with that contract, so who’s the real culprit here?” A stab of guilt ran through my heart and I backed down, causing River to grin as he leaned forward and kissed my cheek. He’d been pulling that card on me all week, saying how if Aspen hadn’t swooped into help, we would’ve been far from dating right now. “When are Noah and Yasmin arriving?” Layla questioned, smacking Aspen’s hand away when he started playing with her hair. “Soon,” Connor replied, and then looked at Axel as he joined us in the water. He cleared his throat. “Hi.” “Bye,” Aspen and I said simultaneously. I grinned at him, “I think I just found my soulmate.” He smirked, “I was told I was the better brother.” Although Aspen had just recently joined, he’d been caught up pretty quick about Axel and I’s past and he immediately hated him. His exact words were ‘ if I ever see that asshole myself, I’ll beat him up ‘ but that was until he found out that Axel was Layla’s step-brother. “Hey,” Connor pouted. “I’m still here, you know.” “We know,” Aspen and I replied again, and this time, I high-fived him. “You know what, maybe I really should marry Layla–” I cut him off with a glare and he smirked. “Not so fun when it’s happening to you, is it?” “Shut up,” I muttered, before I leaned back against him. His arms came around my waist and he pressed a kiss to my forehead. “You love me.” “Hm, I don’t think so.” “No?” He kissed the spot under my ear. I smiled. “No.” “Okay, if you’re going to do those cliché scenes where you eventually get her to say ‘yes’, then I’m out. I may ship you two but I did not come here to see love shit going on.” I could practically feel Connor roll his eyes behind me as he pressed his mouth once more to my hair before he squeezed me against him, watching as Noah gagged at us while Yasmin laughed. Axel seemed entirely uncomfortable and excused himself from the pool before he ran back into Connor’s house. “Rough,” Noah commented. “Don’t be such a party-pooper, Noah,” Yasmin chided, as she laid down on a pool chair. “You’re not going to swim?” Layla asked. She shook her head, “Nope. I’m here to get my skin to a perfect golden.” “Shame,” Aspen voiced out loud. “I would’ve loved to see–” Layla splashed his face with water and glared at him. “Don’t you dare finish that sentence.” He smirked and leaned closer, “Why? Jealous?” I coughed. “Get a room.” As we erupted into another playful argument, I found myself looking up at Connor in the midst of it, a smile forming on my lips as I watched his blue eyes roll up before he glanced down at me. “What are you so happy about?” he murmured, dipping his head lower so he could hear me. “Nothing. Everything.” I kissed him on the lips. “Just life in general.” “That’s the first time I’ve ever heard someone say that,” he laughed. I grinned, “I’m not just any someone though.” “You’re right,” he said softly, as the arguments got louder and sillier behind us. “You’re the girl who fell on top of me and somehow managed to kiss me on your first day.” He pressed his forehead against mine, “You’re a klutz. But you’re a klutz that I’m head over heels for.” My smile widened. “Was that a discreet way of saying ‘ I love you? ‘” “No, that was me saying I’m glad I met you.” He suddenly cupped the back of my head and brought me closer so that his lips brushed against mine as the intensity of his eyes created a familiar warmth in my veins. “Now this,” he said quietly, “is me saying that I love you, Clumsy. I think I have ever since you fell on me.” My heart soared in my chest and I kissed him hard before I pulled back and threaded my fingers through his hair, looking at him with a light weight on my chest as I let out my own little secret. “I love you, too, Connor Blakes,” I admitted. “I think I have ever since you befriended me.” The smile on his face was worth a million dollars but nothing could beat the pounding of my heart as Connor pressed his lips to mine once more. “And to think,” he murmured against my mouth, “that it all started with…” I grinned. “… a kiss. ” That’s a wrap, loves! Thank you for a wonderful journey.
