A solicitor tried to break up with his girlfriend by pretending he had died
via a text message only to be reported to police by her furious mother, it
has been claimed. The woman was reportedly dating the Coventry-based lawyer in 2013
when she received a text from his mobile phone revealing he had died.
The message claimed to have been written by a relative, and explained
the solicitor had suffered a short illness before dying suddenly. According to legal blog, RollOnFriday, when quizzed by the heartbroken
girlfriend, the 'family member' said his funeral would be taking place at
a crematorium in Swindon, Wiltshire. She is said to have travelled the 70-odd miles to the service, only to
learn no funeral was taking place. This prompted her suspicious mother to called his firm, and learn that
he was very much alive and at his desk. The mother then reported the man, who the blog says works as an in-
house legal counsel for a major utility company, to police and the
Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) for bringing his profession into
disrepute. Source Daily Mail
