Paul and Vicky are two distinct young teenagers, schooling in Federal
University of Benin (UNIBEN], currently in 200L.
Although very different, however they both have one thing in
common which is, they do not believe in love even when
their friends come up with a topic related to their love life, all
they say was love doesn't exist or even if it does exist, love is just
a wrap but all these changed when two of them meet
Vicky was on her way back from night class when it began to rain heavily.
At the moment she was finding it a really difficult to get a cab to
her house which was somewhere outside campus.
She stood right in the rain hoping to find one, with her clothes badly soaked.
She stood at the junction for hours
hoping luck would shine on her, perhaps a heaven sent cab, would come
by and take her home.
And then she heard a voice, she could tell it was definitely a male
without even turning.
Boy: stop wasting your time, you'd never find a cab here tonight.
Vicky: why??
Boy: whenever its raining, the cab man do not drive around.
In there little chat he got to find out he lived abit close to Vicky.
He suggested they share the umbrella, when they get to his house, he'd
let her go with his umbrella.
At first Vicky didnt buy his idea, of course he noticed after all his
idea looked suspicious. Finally he was able to convince her
After a long walk, they were at his house, just before he got in,he
handed over the umbrella as promised. She thanked him and walked home.
The next day she decided to return his umbrella first, before going
about the day's activity.
It took her 15 minutes walk to get to
his house.
When she arrived, they were able to get a better view of each other at
that moment.
They stood staring at each other wondering how God created someone so flawless.
Its been over 5minutes now and there gaze were still focused on
each other, as they stood in silence
And then he decided to give it the first shot.
Boy: Hey
Vicky: Hey. I came to return the umbrella you gave me yesterday and
also to say thank you.
Boy: You are welcome erm..erm...
When Vicky noticed he was about
guessing her name, she quickly filled the erm gap he created, making
it alot easy for him.
Vicky: Call me Vicky
Boy: Nice name you got. Am Paul by the way
Vicky: Nice name you got too but I have a name that's gonna suit you perfectly
Paul: Which is?
Vicky: P baby or Paula
Paul: Why will you want to name me those?
Vicky: that's because you look so feminine, and i think i like P baby
better, she said chuckling.
Paul: hahaha seriously then I will have to call you Vicky pie
Vicky: hmm that's cool she said with a smile. I think i have to go now,
i wouldn't want to be late for class you know.
Paul: Let me see you off
Vicky: Okay
And that marked the beginning of a great friendship
Each passing day the bond they shared keep getting stronger and
stronger.
Six months later Paul asked Vicky
out and she accepted. Their
relationship was like one made in heaven.
Every student in UNIBEN knew them as a couple and no one ever
tried to come between them because they believed they were made for
each. And then something happened when they visited their parents
during holiday.
Vicky got home and she didn't even wait to drop her bag before
bombarding her mum with all that's being going on, on campus. She told
her mum(Juliet) all about the Paul
Juliet: my dear am happy that you find true love but the truth is you
can't continue that relationship with him
Vicky: Why? she asked confused
Juliet: I don't know how to tell you but I guess its important you know.
Vicky: Tell me what?
Juliet: You see my dear your dad and I have already been betrothed you
to someone since you were a child
Vicky: What!!!!
Juliet: You heard me and I am very sorry for not telling you earlier
Vicky: Mum I can't marry someone I don't love or even know
Juliet: You will get to know him and also love him when you see him
Vicky: Mum there is no way am going to leave my P baby for any other
guy. P baby is my heart without him I can't survive
Juliet: You are going to marry the guy you are betrothed to and that's final
Juliet said and left her daughter's room angrily, Vicky fell back on
her bed as tear flowed from her eyes.
She was calm after a while, she picked her phone, called Paul and
asked him to meet her in a particular restaurant in threw days time.
Three days later
Vicky was seen in a restaurant
patiently but anxiously waiting for Paul.
Few minutes later he arrived but from his countenance, Vicky could
tell all isn't well with him.
They both exchanged peasantries
and then Vicky nervously explained everything to Paul, to her greatest
surprise Paul also had
similar encounter with his parents.
Vicky: P what are we going to do now?
Paul: The only solution to our problem right now, is for us to elope
together and get married
Vicky: What!!
Paul: Vicki pie that's the only solution we have
Vicky: P baby you know we cant get married without the blessings of
our parents
Paul: What are you trying to say?
Vicky: we cant fight this P, Let's just get married to the people our
parents want us to marry
Paul: You want us to obey our parents even at the detriment of our happiness?
Vicky: Yes Paul maybe the two of us were never meant to be but my
heart will always belong to you but for now, we have to go our own
ways.
Vicky didn't wait for a reply before she ran out of the restaurant in tears
Paul on the other couldn't hold back his tears, the heart breaking words
he just heard made him cry like a
baby in the restaurant, forgetting on lookers.
They got home that day and told their parents they were ready to
accept their choosed life partners.
And a day was fixed for them to meet their betrothed
Today is the day both Paul and Vicky will be introduced to their
future husband and wife. Knowing that wasn't what what their hearts
want. They both stayed up all night, crying out their eyes.
Vicky's parents were sited in the sitting room waiting for their in
laws to be to arrive.
A few minutes later they arrived, after exchanging pleasantries.
Juliet was ask to go in and bring the bride to be, Vicky came to the living
room with her mum.
Juliet: that's you husband she said with a smile
Vicky turn to see who the guy is and the guy turned out to be Paul
They were both surprised to see each other, that they screamed
their names so loud, hugging each other.
Peter (Paul's dad): Wait a minute do you two know each other? He asked confused
Paul/Vicky: Yes
Juliet: Wow!! Where did you guys meet?
Vicky: Mum this is my P baby
Paul: Dad that's my Vicky pie I told you about
Peter: are you serious?
Paul: Yes dad
Vicky: P baby I never knew you were the guy my parents betrothed me
to. If I had know I wouldn't have been a shadow
of myself for the past few days
Paul: me too vicky
Vicky: and that means we are meant to be
Paul: Yes my dear. He said as they gave each other a passionate and tight hug
