Maureen got into the car, and Jay drove off. She shuddered to think about what lay before her. No doubt her client would be another one of the numerous old men whose money could buy the city. Their money certainly buys them her body. She looked at the outline of Jay's jaw, and her mind went to the first day she was introduced to him. She had been in a very low point in her life, and made the decision to travel this road. Jay was her transporter. From that day, her worries reduced. She blossomed and was happier than she had been in a long time. Nobody had to know that deep down she cursed the day she was conceived every time she had to endure and pretend to enjoy rendering her services.
Three years down the line, she was still at it, now she had the liberty to see a client or not. She hadn't told any of her associates yet, but this was going to be her last year as a working girl. She had been thinking about it for a while, and Kelly deserved better from her. She smiled, remembering Kelly who she has been seeing for 8months. She didn't dare to hope that something as good as a loving man would come her way, but fate has decided to smile upon her for once. Kelly has been supportive, and was an absolute gentleman. He even wants to marry her, so she made her decision to quit, with him in mind.
They got to the parking lot of the hotel, and Jay parked the car. Then from the breast pocket of his suit, he gave her a piece of paper. Maureen read through it, and touched up her makeup. GAME TIME
Three swift knocks on the door, and she walked into the room. She went straight to the bathroom and changed her clothes. When she walked out, she had gotten into character.
The man looked at the girl as she walked out of the bathroom. She fit his order perfectly. He was pleased.
She came nearer, and an involuntary tremor ran through her. She took a deep breath and smiled at the lecherous old man. He seemed uncannily familiar to her, but she knew she had never crossed his path. She would have remembered.
Her mother looked at her, and shook her head. The same thoughts ran through her mind as usual. She wished her husband had lived to see how much stubbornness he succeeded in passing to their only daughter. Maureen shifted in her chair, and looked away from her mother, while she gave her the usual lifestyle speech. It hurt her whenever her mother was in this mood. After all it was because of her she went down the path she chose.
How else would they have survived? She remembered all those times her mother had to hawk for them to be able to eat. Then the hit and run happened, and her mother had been bedridden for months.
Life went downhill from there, until she started working to fend for the both of them. If not for her, they would have starved to death. Now her mother didn't want her coming home late.If only she knew half of what Maureen has done to provide for them. Good reason why she preferred to stay in school.
Kelly walked out on his father, angry as usual. His mother called after him but her calls went unheeded. How dare him think he can dictate to him who he would marry? Least of all when the girl in question was a spoilt junkie.
Of course parents never knew the truth about these things. All they thought about was pedigree. He couldn't care less. He has had enough of being told what to do all the time. He thought about what to do, he has picked a wife. Its time for her to meet his family.
When Kelly gave her a ring, her joy knew no bounds. She was excited but as she looked at the ring glittering on her finger, she felt a wave of foreboding. She knew that if Kelly ever found out about what she did, he would leave her. Tears streamed down her cheeks, as she thought about her late father.
All she remembered about him was that he travelled a lot, and always brought her a gift whenever he returned. When she was five, he travelled and never returned. He died in a car wreck. Burnt beyond recognition. Even as a child, she knew what had happened. She watched her mother cry out her soul and seem to vanish before her eyes. Her father was gone. That was the beginning of the end.
Maureen and her mother walked into the five star restaurant where tables had been reserved for them. Kelly and his parents were on their way. She was supposed to be happy to finally meet his parents, but she wondered if they would like her, or approve of her. She straightened her gown and hoped for the best.
It all happened so fast. One minute introductions were being made, the next minute her mother had turned white as a sheet and fallen to the ground. Maureen screamed. she wished the ground could swallow her, because there in front of her was her last lecherous old man. He stood there with a look of recognition in his eyes.
Maureen sat on the floor, her heart threatened to fall out of her chest. She had cried enough tears in the last two days, that all she could do was heave and shake in pain. Life had been having a laugh in her face. Fate had been jeering at her even in sleep. Her mother was also inconsolable. Maureen wondered how one person could have such wickedness in his core.
Her father..... A taboo to even think of him as her father for he is also Kelly's father.
An even greater taboo, he was her last lecherous old man. Maureen wept.

THE BEGINING
Theodore looked into the eyes of his wife, as she put in the last items into his box. His daughter was sound asleep on the bed and Theo sighed. He had been dreading this day, but it was now an inevitability. What had started as a fleeting interest that fateful night. He saw her walk into the bar, and off came his wedding band.
He wooed her for weeks, and when she accepted him, he made his mark. Then the child was conceived and he went on and married her. His wife would never find out. She was abroad with their kids.
He shuttled between the two of them, but that had to end. His wife wanted him in London for good. Her father had tons of money and that was what attracted him to her in the first place.
He got the brilliant idea, to let her down easily. He knew she loved him so much, and would he better off as a widow than as a divorcee. He wished he could take his daughter with him, but she had insisted that he travelled alone. Moreover what would he tell his wife concerning the child. He walked out and never looked back.
THE END.
