Following the deadly
violence in Nasarawa
which occurred on
Monday, the state
Governor Umaru
Tanko Al-Makura has
imposed curfew.
The Chief Press
Secretary to the state
governor, Yakubu Lamai
who confirmed this told
Premium Times the
curfew will be between
the hours of 6pm. and
6am.
Lamai who said the
Goveernor himself had
gone round town after
the incident happened
said that the curfew
will ensure that people
do not leave their
communities to attack
others elsewhere.
According to Yakubu
Lamai: “What we mean
is that people can move
in their own areas but
should not cross over to
other areas that are
not theirs and this is
only applicable to Lafia
the state capital alone”.
It was reported earlier
today that the violence
which reportedly left
one person dead
, was reportedly due to
some youth chasing
away Eggon residents
from the state capital
and burning their
properties.
Over the past weeks,
Nasarawa state has
experienced several
attacks.
On November 9, it was
reported that no fewer
than 32 displace
persons returning home
were ambushed and
killed by unknown
gunmen
on Sunday morning
along Arikye Village in
Nasarawa Eggon Local
Government Area,
Nasarawa state.
Also it was reported
that Mairuwa, the head
driver to the State
Governor, Umaru Al-
Makura was recently
killed by unknown
gunmen
who shot him in the
presence of his wife
while heading to his
home town in Keana
local government area
of the state.
