The Federal Government of Nigeria has reached
a resolution to ban all music videos and
Nollywood movies shot outside Nigeria, as they
opine that goods consumed by Nigerians should
carry the Nigerian factor in it; not a foreign
element.
This was made known on Saturday the 15th of
July 2017 in Lagos by the Minister of
Information, Mr. Lai Mohammed, who
categorically stated that the Federal Government
is keen on promoting Nigeria to the world and
having Nigerians consume Nigerian made
products. To this end, the shooting of music
videos and movies abroad is forbidden!!!
Mr. Lai Mohammed paid a visit to the
headquarters of the Copyright Society of Nigeria
(COSON). During his visit, Lai Mohammed
brought the Federal Government’s resolve to
public knowledge. In his words:
“This government has agreed that henceforth,
whatever we consume in Nigeria in terms of
music and films, must be made in Nigeria. We
cannot continue to go to South Africa or any
other country to produce our films and then send
them back to be consumed in Nigeria. The
Broadcasting Code and the Advertising Code are
very clear on this. For you to classify a product
as a Nigerian product, it must have a certain
percentage of Nigerian content.”
