The season 2 finale of "Empire" ended with a bang, with the Lyons once again embroiled in a messy family affair. From Hakeem's (Bryshere Y. Gray) fiasco of a wedding, to Anika (Grace Gealey) and Rhonda's (Katlin Doubleday) catfight, there is so much going on for the entire cast coming into the next installment.
During the finale, Laura (Jamila Velazquez) decided she could not push through with the wedding. Her decision was due to her inability to accept the kind of family she would shorty be joining. Lucious (Terrence Howard) and Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) brought a criminal to the wedding, who showed up with a couple of hookers in his arms. Shyne (Xzibit) knew he could do whatever he wanted since he had Lucious where he wanted him to be. A court summon for Lucious was even delivered during the ceremony, which led Laura to burst into tears and run away.
According to executive producer Ilene Chaiken, Xzibit's character would play a huge part in season 3. In a recent interview, she said that aside from Shyne, another one to watch out for was Lucious' half brother Tariq, who would be portrayed by Morocco Omari, an FBI agent who has a personal grudge against the Empire founder. TV Line described Tariq as "extremely bright and supremely confident" who "never shows his hand, but doesn't hide his intentions." He was a hero in Philadelphia, where he served before joining the Bureau.
"Well, Shyne Johnson is a character who was spoken of in the pilot and mentioned once or twice in Season 1 before, and we met him in the last episode of Season 2. Shyne is going to be a big character in our third season, as is Lucious' half-brother Tariq who happens to be a fed with a very, very personal agenda to finally be the one to make this case against Lucious Lyon and Empire," Chaiken told Deadline
