DYING FOR LOVE part1 When we doffed our hats and said goodbye to the memorable days of University life, I was one person who left the school arena with a high morale, I remember walking to the podium as my name was announced from the loudspeakers that was mounted at every strategic point of the hall, Deans and Heads of Departments sitting on the high table with the ecstatic mode that filled the air and the emcee wiping the sweat off his face, a short fat man with a protruding tummy that could be mistaken for pregnancy as the bulging stomach stretched the buttons of the white long sleeve shirt he word:"Daniel Davidson a student of petroleum engineering, a first class degree holder with a CGPA of ...."He called out my name and the hall divided into two, parents who accompanied their child all stood up clapping as other students joined too, my feet trembling as the Vice Chancellor posed with me for a photograph, I felt like I was floating, from the crowd that had joined in celebrating my success story, I saw Tina and then winked at her before shifting my gaze to where my parents were seated, my father a plumber working with a construction company while my mum was a housewife who sold food items in a makeshift kiosk built in front of our house, here I was making them proud and feeling fulfilled when they joined me on stage.I remember my father giving me a path on the shoulder as we sat at a corner of the hall eating the jollof rice and salad mum had prepared the previous day for this occasion, shaking hands with other of my classmates and their parents who came to congratulate me on my achievement, he looked at me as tears drooled down his chin and then wiped it off with his handkerchief and said: "I know say I no go school, but na wetin I promise your mama before I marry am say I go make sure say all my pikin finish school, see as you don make me feel like big man today, everybody wan snap picture with me, shebi you say e get the one wey una dey call Masters? Begin prepare cuz you go do am join sef" I was indeed a lucky fellow who had the support of his family, then Tina walked in on us, as she hugged me right in front of my parents and then gave me a peck before turning towards them and then greeted them, only my father responded as he stretched his right hand and then used his left hand to adjust his spectacles and then said"My pikin you be junior classmate?"Tina flashed her white set of dentition as she smiled, using her hand to arrange her long curly her and then drew her short gown down a bit as her thighs were on public display and then replied my father,"Am his girlfriend, we are of different department but of the same faculty, I studied chemical engineering"Those words were alien to dad as he could barely understand what she was saying, so he laughed and then said in a comic way,"My pikin I no understand this one but e good say una be friend"Mum sighed as she stood and then began to arrange the food flask, I could not phantom why of all people my mum choose to dislike was Tina, she had this beautiful skin, a height of that of a model on a runway with a smile that could turn my moody day into a sunny day, even the cats would be jealous of her eyes as she had these eyes that would pierce through the heart of even an assassin, she was revered in our school as her beauty made guys scared to talk to her, she came from a rich home so she lacked nothing, I had nothing but yet she choose me amongst all the rich kids who had flashy cars.I was regarded as a riffraff but not until Tina came into my life, many times my friends would tease me as they would say that the only reason Tina was with me was because I was brainy as I helped her do her assignments and sometimes sneak into the exam hall to write exams for her, there might be an iota of truth in that but cared less because after all said and done she goes home with. She then excused me from my parents and then dragged me to a corner, smiling as she looked at me and then kissed me, instantly I knew something was up, and then she held my hands as she said,"Daniel you made me proud today, sincerely I feel happy for you but there is something I need to tell you"That was when I got really curious as I grabbed her hand tight as she continued,"I got a scholarship to travel abroad for my Masters and I will be leaving in a week time".I could not find the right emotion at that moment, if I should be happy that she got a scholarship to study abroad or be sad that she was going to leave, I knew in situations like that my opinions where like breeze on a rainy day, it won't be noticed by her as she seemed overwhelmed about going abroad, we shook hands as we joined the rest of our classmates to party all night."Bros! I envy you oh!, me na 3rd class them give me o, but no wahala sha I better pass plenty people wey no graduate"That was what Kelvin said as he dragged me out of the party to congratulate me personally, he had always wanted to be my friend but I never liked him so I snubbed him each time he stretched the arm of friendship towards me.... ...to be continued...

DYING FOR LOVE- part 2 How fast the hand of time flies, three years down the lane and am left with nothing, broke than I was when we were in school, still living in my parent's house while my mates who envied and wished they were in my shoes are all better than me, though Tina and I were still in contact as she finished her masters and then decided to work for a while before coming back to me and then we get married, the truth was that I kept feeding Tina with lies over the phone about how successful I had become as she was eager to come home to me and start a family, over the phone I'll tell stuffs like "Baby am caught in between buying a range rover or any of these formative cars" It was not planned at first but when she fed my ears with stories of how some of our classmates are doing fine, I decided to up my ante and just tell all sorts of lies. In the area where I live people have started gossiping about me, what made matters worst was when the company dad worked for did this mass retrenchment, it affected my dad as he was sacked, then did the real brutal blow of poverty showed its imprint on our faces, our only source of livelihood was the kiosk outside our house. It could be the shock of retrenchment or the constant thinking that hit my dad so much as we woke up one morning and saw him on the ground lying unconscious, as I and other tenants helped in lifting his lifeless body, on getting to the hospital the doctor said he slipped into a coma and we were required to pay thirty thousand naira as deposit before he could be attended to, I had no dime on me as I looked confused, pleading with the young nurse to be benevolent as to convince the doctor to start treatment while I go on a wild goose chase, hoping to get the money from wherever I could and she agree. Walking through the busy bus stop as cars honked at each other, a taxi driver who was trying to take the wrong lane pulled his head out of his car window, pointing at the driver who is on the right lane," Oloriburuku! Why you dey block the road? Abi your papa na federal government?, comot make I pass jor" An obvious act of wrong driving yet the driver was raising the tone of his voice as if he was right, I just shook my head as I was contemplating on my nextline of action, I knew no uncle or extended family, I trekked home as fast as I could, hoping to sell some of our electrical appliance to be able to foot the hospital bill. Struggling with the television as I lifted it on my head, I staggered to an uncompleted building, the owner of the building had refused to come complete his house after been threatened by the hoodlums that his house was the palace to the kingpin of our area, the moment I stepped my feet into the house where I was hearing voices of people discussing, slowly I walked and saw a group of boys who were startled by my appearance because I seem to have caught them off guard, I couldn't recognize any of the guys present for I had disassociated myself with anything that had to do with miscreants, they all stared at me each dipping there hands inside their trouser of which it meant that virtually all of them had a rifle on them, when a dark thin guy amongst them decided to speak, "No be Daniel first class be that?" I smiled shining only my teeth, and they all burst into laughter as I tried to speak, I felt a hand on my shoulder, I turned to see Alhaji, a notorious thief now celebrated as a hero because most times he uses the loot in helping people who lived in the slum with us, though fidgety as I turned and then greeted him; "Aah! Alhaji I greet you boss" He just smiled and looked at me pointing his longfinger that is almost the size of a dagger, as he sat on a bench and then slowly dipped his hand into his pocket, brought out a pack of cigarette, lit one as he puffed the smoke into the air and then coughed, he used his left hand to press against his chest as he asked me; "Padi man, wetin carry you come dis our zanga? Hope you no wan come open our yansh give ekelebe oh!" Snitching in the slum is the gravest crime to ever commit as most people who are even suspected to be snitches didn't live to tell the story, so instantly I had to prove my innocence; "I can never snitch you guys, actually the reason am here is to see if you can lend me thirty thousand naira to foot my father's hospital bill, I'll pay you back once I get a job" That must be the joke of the century to them as those words left my mouth they all burst into laughter, especially Alhaji who laughed so hard until he fell of the bench he was sitting on, holding unto his stomach as he struggled to speak; "Na today I know say you be fool, so na we wey no go school you want to borrow you money abi? When we dey street they ginger to collect money shebi you go bury head inside book "I was puzzled at his assertion as I tried to hold the water that had began to gather at the corner of my eyes, I looked at Alhaji as I knelt down and began to beg, hoping to make him consider my plight when another member of the gang who was sitting at corner said; "Athink when dem say you come out with first class, nobody allow us hear word, na why I hate school, see as dey don make a whole ghetto pikin like daniel lazy, no him dey wait for office job"I noticed that this was a brick wall so without further delay, I stood up and then decided to go source for money another place, I walked back home and then decided in my heart that whatever be the outcome of my dad's ill health I'll take in good faith ....to be continued!

DYING FOR LOVE part 3 ... on my endless trekking to the hospital walking through the ever busy road when a car behind me began to blare his car horn, angrily I turned and then began to shout at the driver only for the driver to alight from the car and it turned out to be Kelvin "the no good", out of the exquisite jeep he came down and the smoky effect from the air condition oozed out of the car door and I was confused, we hugged eachother and then I could not hide my true state, as my worn out trousers which were what I wore during our school days and the shirt I bought from the popular Tejuosho market, startled as he observed me from head to my toes and then asked, "Daniel what is wrong? Your not looking okay "I was lost for words as I knew not the right answer to that question, of course I thought all was fine when we got out of school but here was I at the rockbottom. He took me to his car as I began to narrate my ordeal to him, he was patient enough until I had finished telling him my sad story and with a very serious face he looked at me saying, "I can change all that for you Daniel, although you rejected my long arms of friendship, am still willing to lend a helping hand "I was shocked that the rejected stone is now the corner head stone, he drove me down to the hospital were my father was and paid for the hospital bills, seeing the wads of Naira notes in his pigeon hole, my eye popped out and he gave me extra fifty thousand Naira to cater for any other bill and promised to come check on me later, and that was when curiosity did set in for I was stunned at how a 3rd class graduate would be doing so fine while I roamed the street like a mad man with my first Class. Sitting inside his car as he kept looking at his expensive wristwatch, tapping his foot as if he was in a haste, so I asked, "Kelvin, seems you are running late for an appointment?" He wiped his face with his right hand as he turned and replied, "Yes I have a deadline to meet with my other business associates " Almost immediately I asked," And what are you into? "My ears itching to find out what has transformed Kelvin into this world class business man before me "Oil and Gas" Those were the words that came out of his mouth as I decided not to get too inquisitive, so I decided to take the answer but would push further on our next meeting for further clarification. Dad got home few days later as the money Kelvin gave me helped a great deal, but that was when things changed, I got a call from Tina that she would be coming home in two months time during the Christmas holiday, I went dumb on phone as she said, "Can't wait for you to come pick me at the airport with your rangerover evogue "Those words choked as I stood in our living room dazed, I was able to mutter, "Y..e..s of course " I thought about my life the whole day and how I would be able to fit into the world of lies I had webbed myself into, I got my phone out and dialed Kelvin's number, a female voice came alive on the receiver, "Hello, your unto Engr. Kelvin's Office, please can I know you and your reason for calling "I imagined Kelvin in an office with a big desktop computer on his table, piles of book stacked in the shelves behind him, then I explained who I am to the lady as she answered in her Queen's English with a British accent, "Gimme a minute sir, am transferring the call to his office" And that was when I heard the husky voice of Kelvin, the moment he said, "Daniel how far na, how your side? "I answered, "Brother all is not well, agwo nor na akirika" He laughed over the phone and said, "Take it easy everything would be fine""Boss no be so! I need to make money like you na, abi you think say range rover no dey good for my body" , I replied. He burst into another bout of laughter before trying to control himself as he said, "Money no get friend oh! If you want to be like me, the matter no be small one oh!" ."Boss leave dat thing, even if na to carry gun or kill person me I ready, this Christmas I wan drive my own range rover" I answered him.We booked for an appointment by 4pm, as he promised to come pick me up. At exactly 3pm I was already dressed up, sitting at the veranda and waiting on him for this is one opportunity I would not blowup for anything, at exactly 4pm a white colored Prado jeep veered off the road and parked right in front of our house, as the door open here was Kelvin decked in designer suits and had this shiny Italian shoes that glitters. We shook hands as I hopped into his car and then he began to drive towards the highbrow areas of the city and finally our car took abend into a street as the car got pulled over in front of a hotel, we came down and then walked into the hotel, drinks were ordered as we sat at a secluded corner reserved for VIP's, then he began to explain to me what it takes to make the kind of money his got. "I was desperate like you one year ago, but since I met BabaOlumo, my story changed "I smiled as I asked him,"That's all? So if I see baba olumo my problems are over? "He smiled as he stretched his hand and gave me a pat on my shoulder and said, "Relax man! Don't be in a hurry, though some sacrifices are made to appease Baba Olumo ""Okay let's start going", I said As I tried to stand up from the chair, he pushed me back to the chair and then said,"Daniel go home and think about this one, for no one who goes to see Baba Olumo rejects his offer and stays alive" ....to be continued!

Snail don big pass tortoise DYING FOR LOVE part 4 I can vividly remember that night as he dropped me at home, I was lying on bed as my mind kept reminiscing about the event that played out during the day, I thought to myself what could possibly be the sacrifice? Should I be swimming in penury and allow Tina marry someone else? I couldn't afford to loose Tina for my world revolves round her, I picked my phone up and dialed Kelvin's phone number, it rang the first time but he didn't answer, so I dialed his number again and this time his husky voice came alive, sounding like was fast asleep,"Daniel whatsup!"His sluggish way of talking couldn't deter me as I went straight to the main reason why I called him at the depth of the night,"Kelvin am ready to take whatever steps involved, so far as at the end I become rich" I said"Okay! Come to my house by morning, since its Saturday, let's go see Baba Olumo together" He said. Walking through the bush paths as Kelvin had parked his car by the road and we engaged in this long tedious trekking into the forest, though Kelvin walked with confidence while I stood behind him as he led the way, we got to a spot as he stopped abruptly and then turned to me as he spoke with a low tone almost whispering,"We just stepped into Baba Olumo's shrine, be mindful of the thing you do or say to avoid repercussions "My feet began to shake as I used my eyes to scan to see if I could signify that we were in the presence of Baba Olumo but nothing signified, so I began to walk so close to Kelvin and then from my side I saw the swiftness a cat used in running beside me, I could not contain my fear as I screamed very loud and turned to see the direction the cat was coming from, only for me to see an elderly man with long white beards and a walking stick, he was stack naked as I closed my eyes for my being was engulfed in a whirlwind of fear, and that was when I heard Kelvin's voice,"Great Baba Olumo, the ancient and modern, the olumo rock himself, we greet you"I peeped and saw that Kelvin was kneeling down, instantly I joined him too in kneeling, I was abashed when Baba Olumo called me by my name without me telling him who I was,"Daniel you have been brought to the right place, we would break an ancestral curse placed on you by the slaves your grand father sold to the white man, to do that we need blood" ,Baba Olumo declared.I was petrified to even open my eyes but suddenly Baba Olumo began to sing in a funny language only him could understand, and then paused at intervals as he danced from end to another,"The blood of a family member is needed to break this curse, infact Bring you father on your next visit, he shall be sacrificed on the altar of Olumo to appease the wailing voices of the slaves, Olumo has spoken" he said. My eyes still closed as I was too afraid to open my eyes, it was Kelvin who informed me that I could open my eyes that it was time for us to go and that Baba Olumo was gone."We would plan as if its kidnap and then send boys to bundle him and bring him down to Baba Olumo's shrine" Kelvin said. I was surprised at the way he talked about my father without any emotions, this was a man that gave me his best so that I could be bigger than him, I was bleeding inside but kept a straight face, a date was agreed for the kidnap. I sat with Papa at the veranda eating his favorite egusi soup, my heart was bleeding because any moment the planned kidnappers would come to carry him to be sacrificed on the alter of Baba Olumo, he noticed that my countenance was a bit different as he kept asking, "Are you sure you are okay? "Not long had I carried the empty plates to the backyard of the house did I hear the sound of a car screeching in front of the house, then the voice of people shouting, by the time I could run to the front of the house, the car was long gone! The deed has been settled, though I was sad but a part of me was happy that I would be officially ushered into the big league. I was home that evening attending to sympathizers who came in numbers to console us.By the break of dawn I quickly dressed and rushed towards Kelvin's house, as I got to his gate the security man who would swing the gate wide open refused me from gaining entrance, leaving me with aflimsy excuse,"Oga sey make we no allow anybody enter him house today"Pissed at the gateman, I decided to sit by the corner of the gate and wait for Kelvin's car, sitting under the scorching sun for almost three hours and the gate opened as Kelvin's car drove out, he had two other male companion in his car, I stood up and wiped the dust off my buttocks as I ran towards his car, he stopped the car the moment he saw me and then whined down his car glass and then asked me,"Daniel, what are you doing here?""Kelvin is that not a weird question? Thought we had a deal that we are meant to settle today?" I replied, He smiled and shook his head, then looked at the two guys with him inside the car and smiled again before looking at me and said,"You are just a big fool, I swear! I never knew you could fall for such hoax, if you don't get out of my front, I'll reverse this car and then jam you"I was petrified as I could not phantom the huge dilemma I had engulfed myself into, I began to scream, shouting at the top of my voice,"What have you done to Dad?"Kelvin was unperturbed at my actions if it could raise suspicion, he stretched his hand on the dashboard, pulled out his sunglass, wore it as he looked at the other guys in his car and they all burst into laughter and chorused,"Baba Olumo!!".Almost the same time, one of the guys that was in the car looked at me though still smiling as he said,"You are lucky we did not put you were your father is too, don't you know your organs are far more healthier than that of your father, just thank Kelvin here who was kind enough to exclude your name from our prospective list, the dead carcass of your dad is in the booth, if you want it we can hand it over to you".I fell to the ground as I was speechless, tears drooling down my cheek, shocked to my being that I had killed the one man who had faith in me, I was dazed the more when the third accomplice pulled his head out of the window and said,"Don't bother to call the police because that would be a total waste of time".And then immediately they drove off, I sat down on the floor crying, cursing mother earth and myself when my phone rang, I pulled it out of my breastpocket only to see that the caller was Tina....

Mhnnn, ma fwend, to be candid you have not done the right thing. Imagine what your dad has done for you but all you could do is to sell him away coz of money out of frustration. Find your way man and rescue him I believe he is still alive As for Tina, since you've been lying since then maybe this is not the right time to stop lying just cook up another lie about things going worse or tell her the truth and face the consequence hope she won't leave you

DYING FOR LOVE :- part 5 I wiped my tears as I answered her call, pretending to be happy, I was able to switch mode as I heard her voice and then she said, "I'll be coming home this Christmas, Probably on the 24th" "Ooh! That would be great baby! Can't wait to pick you at the airport ", I lied. As the call dropped I looked into the sky confused as to what next to do, passersby all stared at me as I was straddled on the ground with my body covered in dust, I stood and then greet a heavily pregnant woman who stared at me the most with Her protruding stomach which seemed like she had hidden something under those 'buba' she had on, she nodded her head in response to my greeting and then muttered few words, "All these blood money people dem no go rest for this Eko". That I could clearly hear as she walked past me, it dawned on me that I was acting all weird and if I don't leave soonest the crazy frustrated youths of this Lagos who are angered by the poverty that has embraced all of us would pounce on me, Pummeling to pulp as they would level an allegation against me, I was quick with my steps as I walked out of that street. "I no trust this man my guy! First class na jew man, abi una dey see am as person wey fit hold machine like", One of Alhaji's cronies named Small, nature dealt a heavy blow on him, stealing every quality of grown man from him, as he was smallish in stature, no beards and very feminine voice that made him look like he was fourteen years of age, Small had this passionate hatred for me and the four walls of an institution of learning, most times he would point at well dressed people in suit and tie saying, "See dis mumu oh! For dia mind dem better pass us, if I enter Oshodi now I go buy that cloth ", That was his view about highly educated people, so that was where his hatred for me was stemming from. I had convinced Alhaji to recruit me into his group since I could not go home to my wailing mother whose tears and my conscience were like gravitational force pulling me down on my knees, so I thought to myself that it was better I joined them to raise money that I would use to welcome my darling Tina. "Shatap! You no know sey First class go school so him go sabi many things pass us, na big boy o! If no be dis government wey no send us" , Alhaji said. I felt this leap of joy in my heart, if the leader of the gang was in favor of me, nobody could disapprove of me, Small frowned his face as he picked a pistol from the numerous assaulted rifles that was on the ground that we had encircled, handing it over to me as he asked, "Oya First class athink you go school?, oya show me where trigger dey for here". I smiled as he handed the heavy metal to me, that was the first time I was coming in contact with a gun, but this was no time to show that I was a novice as I carried the pistol and then pointed at the trigger, looking at Alhaji as his face brightened up, and then the mistake happened!, as I tried to drop the pistol back on the floor where it was before, I didn't know that the pistol was loaded and corked, I squeezed the trigger and then the gun fired, as the bullet went straight to Small, shooting his left arm and in fear because of the loud bang that came out of the gun, every other member of the gang took their heels including Alhaji who was caught unawares, with only Small and I in the uncompleted building as he wriggled in pain and was bleeding profusely as he kept screaming, "I don die! Yekpa!!!" Minutes later, the rest of the gang members began to come one by one as they tiptoed into the scene. Immediately Alhaji commanded the rest as they helped in carrying Small to the nearest hospital as nobody could believe the turnout of events. Small had continued with his long unparalleled hatred for me as he was vexed by my actions, my instincts like a guardian kept telling me that Small would retaliate somehow but that uncertainty was what scared me the most, as we parlayed and drank together, though he did that with some resentments as he could not hide it even as Alhaji had called us to a round table and then settle every grievances he had against me for I was a new comer and I had not even have any robbery experience with them. Empty bottles littered all over the table, as the other members puffed marijuana from their burnt dark nicotine laddened lips, prostitutes at the brothel caressing the chest of every member of our five man gang, flapping their ass to the rhythm of the music from the speakers. From the entrance I noticed a young lad in his teen ages, too young to be seen in places like this; "the cooking pot of devils disciples", the prostitutes that thronged the brothel began to scream his name as he smiled revealing the gap in his gum, two teeth were missing which I guessed immediately must have been knocked out during a brawl. He held his trouser by the hand as he had no belt on, he walked straight to where we were and lay flat on the ground by the side of Alhaji who smiled the moment the boy did that, he gulped his beer and then stretched his hand to touch the boy on his head and then looked at me saying, "First Class! You see dis Engine? Dis small boy them dey call Engine, him go first plenty of him mate join dis our work, infact one day him go lead zanga like me" The young lad smiled sheepishly as he stood off scratching his over grown hair and then put both hands back as he spoke in a rather awkward voice tone, "Baba! I bring racket come for you o! That school wey dey after bridge, my informant don give the confirm info when them go carry teachers money come give them for school dia" Alhaji began to clap as he smiled and then turned to me and said, "First Class you see why I yarn you say this guy go travel pass me for dis business?" And I replied, "Yes! He seem to have prospect" And Small jumped in pointing his finger at me saying, "Oloshi! Prospect ko! Prospect ni! You think say na school we dey abi?". I didn't bother to respond to his ranting for I know he still had that anger bottled inside him and also jealous that I was Alhaji's new confidant, Alhaji made a hand gesture to Engine who then came closer and whispered some words into his ears, Alhaji kept nodding and smiling all through and then finally he dipped his hand into his pocket and brought out old rumpled notes of two hundred naira denomination and then counted aloud, "One Two ... Five!, take this money take carry ashawo, in fact wait make I call Temitope make she come carry inside her room do you well" Temitope seemed to have been eaves dropping because the moment her name was mentioned she appeared out of the blue, spotting a bra and bum short, revealing her over bleached skin that had stretch marks all over her thigh like she had been stricken by thunder in the past. She held Engine by the hand as she led him to her room. "We get better job tomorrow! Better 1.5 million naira go enter that school tomorrow, we suppose go burst am collect the money". Immediately, other members of the gang began to make animal sound as they were joyous at the announcement and then he continued, "Make una prepare o! I no wan hear say me Alhaji no confirm that money for my hand". ...to be continued.

DYING FOR LOVE part 6 (yawa don gas) "See Engine! E be like say him don dey go confirm with our informant", Small said. Our car was parked exactly opposite the school, pretending we had a flat tire as I and Alhaji came out of the car while Small was sitting on the drivers seat. I had the premonition that something wasn't going to go right but with the tales of how successful all their previous robberies were. I had to give my conscious mind a bench of doubt to sit on for Tina's welfare when she comes back to Nigeria was superior. I watched as Engine came out of the school gate, smiling as he arranged his shirt and then walked to a shop beside the school where drinks and snacks were sold and sat down. Alhaji gave me a pat on the shoulder as he smiled and then said, "I trust this boy pass my mama!, you no see say him don give me signal say make we dey enter". I felt this cringe in my stomach immediately as fear engulfed me, rubbing my sweaty palm on my jean as Small brought his head from the window with his unkempt hair giving him the look of a beggar, he spoke in his tiny feminine voice, "Make una go collect dis money come make person comot from here na". He spoke with so much confidence like the money was his and that he was ordering us to go get it. Alhaji stared at him for a moment without saying a word and then without thinking he crossed the road in a swift action caring less if a car was on high speed, still undecided on my next line of action to follow when Small brought out his ugly looking head and yelled at me in a low tone, "First class! If you no cross this road now follow Alhaji, I go show you why dem dey call me Small". And that was when I decided to cross the road and join Alhaji who was far ahead of me, I could still hear Small ranting and bleating like a goat, "Oloshi! You think say dis one na classroom, come carry first class make we see..." Slowly like the sound of a drum from a distance his voice faded away into thin air, I increased my steps walking faster so as to catch up with Alhaji who had already pushed the school gate open before I got there, but as I got closer I heard Alhaji's voice, he was discussing with someone so I pushed the gate open in a hurry and saw Alhaji talking to a tall lanky guy who wore a uniform like that of the prison warders, an ash trouser and shirt sewn in military form, he had sandals on as his feet came out of the sandals, a sign that he had worn those sandals for years and has outgrown it but no money to get a new one. He smiled at Alhaji as he pointed towards a bungalow that was painted white and had flowers around saying, "Na the office be that, just the first office as you reach there, the owner na one woman wey wear big oyinbo eye glass". Alhaji shook hands with him and then began to walk majestically towards the direction, as I walked past the security man, he was quick as he smiled at me and then muttered, "Make una no forget me o". It was then it dawned on me that the security man was Engine's informant, a total contrast to what I had expected that the same person employed to safeguard the school is the one masterminding the robbery. Before I could get to the office, I saw Alhaji running towards me with a huge bag on his left hand and a pistol on the right hand, immediately I turned and then began to walk back to the gate when I heard a woman's voice screaming, "Thief o! Thief o! Security Thief o!". I was the first to come out of the school gate only for me to see Engine running towards our car as he crossed the road without looking and a car on high speed knocked him down, first flinging him to the high heavens before landing on the bonnet of the car as I noticed blood on his shirt but couldn't detect the exact place he was bleeding from. With speed, Alhaji ran past me without looking out for an oncoming vehicle, people had begun to gather at the accident scene as I looked carefully before crossing the road, behind me I could hear same voice that was raising alarm inside the school premises shouting, "Catch him for me! That guys is a thief". I increased my pace as I ran towards the car, Alhaji got to the car before me, opened the door and dived inside as Small looked at me running toward them and spat out of the window and said, "You don die today!". I felt my world crash, the whirlwind of failure encircled me like a hurricane, spinning and whispering tales of sorrow to my ears, I could hear the footsteps of the crowd running and shouting, "Ole! Ole! Ole!" I watched the car as it sped off and then turned facing the crowd with my mind made to accept the death sentence that would be melted out on me by these street urchins who are more of a criminal than me. I guess they derive joy in killing another criminal so that it would be only them existing and no competition would pop up from anywhere. First was this big blow to my head that sent me straight to the ground and I felt dizzy as I used my hand to press against my eyes and then the crowd that had gathered began to hit various objects on my back, in pain I removed my hand from my eyes but vision was blurry, all I could hear was, "Bring tyre, Who get fuel o?" My life was fizzing away before my very eyes as vision became better that was when they hung this large tyre over my neck and then began to pour fuel all over my body. I began to beg for that was the only commodity I could sell for freedom, "I no follow oh! Am a respected citizen of this country". From nowhere someone gave me a hot slap shouting, "Shatap! See your mouth like respected". The next that followed was not imagined as I heard someone say, "He is not among! Stop he is not among the thieves". It was the same voice that was screaming inside the school premises, that was when they stopped and then began to apologize to me, a man from the crowd pushed me by the head and said, "You be real mumu! So you no follow and you no dey talk, e be like say you wan die like fowl". The woman helped in raising me up as others helped in carrying me into the school premises and the woman's office who turned out to be the owner of the school. Walking back to our hideout that evening, as I passed the street that leads to the uncompleted building, everybody I passed kept starring at me like they had seen a ghost while others in groups whispered to themselves as I walked past them, not until I had walked past a kid I was teaching lesson during holidays that he greeted me and held unto my hand not letting me go further and then I inquired, "Why are you holding my hands boy?" He scratched his head and then looked in both direction and then buried his head on the ground and said, "Broda! Those people you dey follow these days, Police come with that boy dem dey call Engine come arrest everybody including Oga Alhaji, people even say dem shoot Small for leg wen him be wan escape, as I dey talk to you police round the place". My heart almost jumped out of my body, without thinking I turned immediately and then began to walk out of the street and then boarded a cab that was going to a direction I didn't bother to ask so far as I was leaving that vicinity. ..to be continued...

DYING FOR LOVE part 7 Roaming the streets of Lagos, broke than I ever was, missed death twice by the whiskers, not so happy to be alive but thanking God for surviving the scary journey of the day, then my phone rang which was the only valuable property I had with me, I looked at the caller and it was Tina, "Baby, in a week time I'll be back, we need to talk!", She said. "Can't we talk on phone about whatever it is that is bothering you?" I queried. She dropped the call and I was instantly super charged, the quest to make money was reborn again, caring less what I had past through, I needed to find a solution to make this money in one week; buy a house instead of building one so I thought. I had retired at a beer parlour by the road side using that spot as a place where I will pass the night before thinking of what I will do the next day, that was when I saw a poster on a wall which had this picture of man in female makeup and he had four hands instead of two, with "MONEY" written in capital letter. I stood up from the chair I was sitting and walked close to the poster and then began to read what was written on it as it reads; "India Mystic Powers! If you want to be rich and famous call Guru Dasami, you will thank your stars and your destiny will be changed forever". That was the solution to the problem I have been longing for a success end, I punched the number on my phone and then retired to the seat a happy man! "You are destined to be wealthy at old age Mr man and your parents are not destined to taste the fruit of thy labour" That was what Guru Dasami said the moment I walked into his temple, a small hall with red linen used to design the four walls of the hall, the stench of incense filled the air as I was told by his guard to take my shoes off. When I saw Guru Dasami I almost urinated in my pants, a short fair man with scary looking face, his tongue rolled out each time he opened his mouth to talk. "But master, my mum is alive! Are you trying to say with her out of the way I can be very wealthy before one week" , I asked. "What are you scared of? You have killed your father so why are you scared of killing your mother?" . He sent a spasm of shock down my spine as I stared at him in awe, he then looked at me for while and then continued, "Get her here as soon as you can, we will sacrifice her to the gods and then after 3 days use her blood to bath you and that would draw the future nearer", he said. At the middle of a cross road again, here I was confused on the right direction to take, I thought about the sweet smell of Tina's skin, the way she cuddles me in bed when making love to her, nothing on earth could replace that feeling so I made up my mind to finish what I had started already, I would give mama a befitting burial, something she would never have gotten if I let live in the certain doom that bemused us. "See my pikin! I tell dem say you be child of destiny" mama said. As she saw me from afar walking down the street towards her direction, she hugged me as she signalled that I sit beside her as she blew the chaff of the groundnut she had on a huge tray, she did that for a while and then dropped it on the table where her goods were on display and then struggled to stand up, groaning in pain as she stood and then looked me before saying, "My pikin follow me!" We both walked into our room without saying a word and then I joined her, she sat on the wooden chair which had foam on it and made it fluffy to sit on but over the years the live-in rats had succeeded in chewing almost all the foam and only the skeletal structure of the chair was left, she shook her head as she spoke, "My pikin since you comot after your papa death, three different Pastors don come here and all of dey talk the same thing" "Wetin be the same thing all of them dey talk?" I chipped in. Raising her hands up as she replied, "Dem say na you kpai your papa wey be my husband!" "God forbid!" , I yelled and continued " mama you sef how you go dey believe all these fake Pastors?" "Your papa people say make I tell dem wen you come so dat you go follow dem go swear juju" That was ticking doomsday if it comes to pass, I tried to download play the precarious situation as I tried so hard to change the topic but mama was hell bent on me proving my innocence, so to calm the situation down I lied, "Okay mama tomorrow tell dem make dem come carry me go juju" I said. That seemed to ventilate the situation as she was quick in changing the topic; "Wetin you go chop? " She asked I had no appetite but I needed to put up a good act before she becomes suspicious of my movements, we ate together that evening and then shared a bottle of soft drink from the shop and then she took her medications, I laid on the couch waiting for the right time as she sat beside me discussing until she began to nod her head as she was being swayed by sleep, it was then I knew the drug was beginning to take effect. I had swapped her high blood pressure drugs with a very power sleeping tablet. When she finally dozed off, I walked to where she was sleeping, scared at first of the efficacy of the drug as I shook her in pretence saying, "Mama go sleep inside" . And she laid there motionless, I took water from the table and poured on her and yet she made not even a single movement, that was when I called the driver I had arranged who helped me in carrying mama's lifeless body at the depth of the night and then towards Guru Dasami temple. Guru kept smiling as he looked me and made huge promises, "You will reign more than anybody in your generation, drop her body here" Pointing at a triangle drawn on the floor, my hands shaking as I dropped the lifeless body of mama, praying that I was taking the right decision and not regret later as he escorted me out of the temple, my feet was washed with what seemed like blood by his servant before Guru Dasami came out again and gave me instructions, "Go to your house, empty a room for that where the lifeless body of your mother would be kept and she would vomit currencies of different countries for you, come back in two days time for her body" he said. With a pat on my shoulder I left his temple a happy man, for on the third day was the day the love of my life, the woman whom I have sacrificed all for would return, with the ritual in progress I was confident that I would be able to buy a house and different choice cars before Tina stepped her foot on Nigerian soil. I could virtually eat or sleep as I counted each hour as it passed by, waiting on the said day so that I could go claim my riches. I had emptied mama's room preparing it for my imaginary pandora's box. Neighbours who cared to ask about the whereabouts of my mother, I bluffed each of them or gave them a flimsy excuse because in 48hours I was going to leave the slum for good. The day finally came when I was to go carry mama's body back home and then begin to reap the benefit of my labour, the motorcyclist who carried me to junction leading towards Guru Dasami's temple kept asking me strange questions as I boarded his bike, "Oga you be SSS?" He asked. Puzzled at such question I decided to query him, "I resemble SSS?". He was quickly in replying me as he apologized, "Oga no vex! As you shave your bear-bear na why I say make I ask you" . I paid him his money as I came down from his bike, facing the path that leads to Duru Dasami's temple I saw a large crowd that gather, my heart skipped as I walked faster to join the crowd to see what was happening, as I got closer all I could hear from the crowd were shouts of, "Jesus! Jesus!". Pushing through the crowd until I got close to the entrance of the temple, there I saw Guru Dasami handcuffed and his legs chained to a pole, as he was covered in blood, his eyes swollen from the beating he must have gotten from the crowd that gathered. He couldn't even open his eyes, policemen walked out from the temple carrying different body parts and then displaying it for the public to see as shouts rented the air, I could not believe my eyes what I saw when next the policemen came out of the temple, one carried the head of my mother in his hand as her head had been sawed out of her body, her teeth biting her tongue that came out of her mouth as her eyes popped out, the crowd began to shout again in agony as tears dropped down my cheek, I could not believe that I had killed my parents all for the mad rush of making money and yet that dream wasn't achieved. I scuffled through the crowd as I tried to hide my face so that Guru Dasami would not recognise and then walked away confused than ever the next line of action again. ..to be continued...

DYING FOR LOVE Part:8 (FINAL EPISODE) The female voice from the loudspeakers hung at every strategic point came alive as I sat at the arrival point waiting for Tina, hiding behind a tall pillar so as to be able to conseal my identity when the voice announced that the plane had arrived as crowd went about their normal business of the day, as the passengers began to walk into the arrival lounge, I was alert to see if I could catch a glimpse of Tina, for I had resolved not to see her in my poor state. She appeared before me, putting on a red bum short and blue singlet that revealed her cleavage as she clinged unto her bag, I looked at my old shoe and worn out shirt and then properly hid myself well when a kid from the arrival side who had flask on his hand screamed; "Daddy!" to the man closely sitting beside me dragging the attention of everybody towards my direction but the final bubble did burst when the flask fell off the kid's hand and then smashed right at my foot and then officially I was the center of attention, that was when Tina saw me and smiled as she screamed; "Baaaaaby!!!". All I could do was give out a faint smile, as she ran towards my direction and then hugged me as I stood up slowly, after hugging me she held me on both arm and looked at me saying; "Why are you dressed like this baby?" That was every bit a conundrum as I tried to open my mouth but words couldn't form and I ended up stammering; "Ermmmm! It is..., I will explain". Surprised she was as she stared at me, and I then grabbed the handle of her bag, "No! No! No! Leave the bag! I can carry it myself before something gets stolen", She said. That was the first missle aimed at me, staring at her when she made such utterance, she bluffed me with a smile as she carried her box, dragging it by the roller as we walked out of the arrival lounge to the car park, I began walking towards the direction where cabs conveying passengers parked when I noticed that Tina was following me closely behind. I turned and saw her standing and looking at me in awe; "Come on Tina, I will explain to you later", I tried convincing her. "Seriously, Daniel you are not serious, do you think I came back to Nigeria to do that same thing we did in the University where I practically fed you for four years", She said. The taxi drivers came out of their cars to watch the mild drama that had ensued when a car honked at Tina and then parked beside her as other two exoctic cars lined up at the back of the one that parked beside Tina, the doors opened in uniform as if it was choreographed and three hefty men accompanied Kelvin as he came out of the car decked in a black suit, when Tina turned and saw him, she left her bag on the ground and rushed towards kelvin who was walking towards her smiling with his hand stretched out as they began to kiss. I watched Kelvin squeeze Tina's butt in public like she was some whore, the weight of the world was as if it was on my shoulder as I watched helplessly, I tried to walk away but my legs couldn't move an inch, in anger I ran towards them pushing them apart as they stared at me surprised at my actions, it was Kelvin's bodyguards who bundled me away. "Tina you will regret this, don't make the mistake of your life", I screamed. "Sorry Daniel, can't you see we are no longer of the same class?", She said. Watching her enter Kelvins car my knees failed me as I knelt down on the ground crying, not for Tina but the impunity I had carried out with my bare hands all because of Tina, as the cars drove off, the drivers that were been entertained by my predicament began to laugh, as amongst them one shouted; "You be mumu, see as you dey here dey cry because of woman, abi you no know woman second name na comfort?". Sitting in my room contemplating suicide, as I had gotten a rope and then tied to the fan with a knot waiting for my neck to be hung on it and then slip to death. I dropped a suicidal note detailing all that I have done and why I was killing myself, took a chair towards the fan, climbed on it and then hung the rope on my neck before kicking the chair off to let my body dangle as my wind pipe got strangulated and then I struggled for breath, slowly the thing called life was fizzling away as my eyes were getting bloodshot when my door was smashed open and I could see our neighbour and a policeman, they both shouted as they held me up and then brought me down from the fan. Still gasping for breath, our neighbour; my mother's best friend kept on shouting; "Officer arrest him, am telling you I saw this boy carrying his mother out of here in the middle of the night and two days later her dead body was found in that ritualist home". I flashed my eyes on the table where I kept the suicide note that was the only evidence to nail me to the cross but it was missing! "Madam no worry dis boy dey follow me go station, anything wey him do me I fit swear say e dey inside dis letter", the policeman said as he brought out the suicide note from his breast pocket, and that was how I was bundled into their van in handcuffs and sent to prison by the judge and sentenced to life imprisonment after my suicide note was read for all to hear in court. Two years later, I was visited by a friend who told me that Kelvin sedated Tina and then harvested her womb for sale and dumped her body by the road, thinking she was dead only for a kind hearted Nigerian who happens to be a lawyer that helped her by taking her to the hospital, he pursued the case to conclusion as Kelvin was served same life sentence and was serving his jail term in another prison. The END!!! Leave a comment on lesson learnt. Like FB page "Ak maxx" for more story updates and gists

@wyse-one, I agree wt u. I also don't see what's in ds money, dt will make us do evil to get it. I jst learnt that: 1. It's not good to be desperate as desperation makes a person to act irrationally. 2. It's not good to live in lies & deceit as one will need more lies to cover up previous lies. So when there ar no more supply of lies, one tends to get desperate on wht next to do to cover d lies. 3. It's not good 4 us to value d irrelevant ppl & neglect d most important ppl in our lives. If Daniel had more love and regard 4 his parents, who painstakingly saw him through school, than he had 4 dt his disloyal girlfriend, things would hav been a lot more better & easier 4 him. 4. It is good to be true to ourselves. Tell d person u care abt d real truth abt urslf, (ppl make ds mistake often) if he/she accepts u, good; if not, then it means d person does not value d real u, & it doesn't make u less of a human, it simply means dt such a person doesn't even deserve u. Someone out there needs u in his/her life, look 4 dt one person & u see ur star shining. Come to think of it, why would u be tied down wt someone who u hav to boast of havin ds & dt to? And why would u be in a relationship wtout progressing? Don't u knw some friends need to be out of ur life & some need to come into it 4 ur life to be in order & hav a meaning? I really learnt alot 4rm ds story. Thumbs up to u @Ak-Maxx. Even if it's a fiction, bits of it hpn in our daily life. Ppl kill their parents, wives, children and even use parts of their own body 4 money rituals. Women leave their boyfriends, fiances, even husbands bcos of money. Ppl go 4 robbery, ppl ar duped everyday so there's no part of ds story dt does not reflect our society. In conclusion, d story is good & there's a lesson 4 everyone.
