DYING FOR LOVE part 7
Roaming the streets of Lagos, broke than I ever was,
missed death twice by the whiskers, not so happy to
be alive but thanking God for surviving the scary
journey of the day, then my phone rang which was
the only valuable property I had with me, I looked at
the caller and it was Tina,
"Baby, in a week time I'll be back, we need to talk!", She
said.
"Can't we talk on phone about whatever it is that is
bothering
you?" I queried.
She dropped the call and I was instantly super
charged, the quest to make money was reborn again,
caring less what I had past through, I needed to find
a solution to make this money in one week; buy a
house instead of building one so I thought.
I had retired at a beer parlour by the road side using
that spot as a place where I will pass the night before
thinking of what I will do the next day, that was
when I saw a poster on a wall which had this picture
of man in female makeup and he had four hands
instead of two, with "MONEY" written in capital
letter. I stood up from the chair I was sitting and
walked close to the poster and then began to read
what was written on it as it reads;
"India Mystic Powers! If you want to be rich and famous
call
Guru Dasami, you will thank your stars and your destiny will
be changed forever".
That was the solution to the problem I have been
longing for a success end, I punched the number on
my phone and then retired to the seat a happy man!
"You are destined to be wealthy at old age Mr man and
your
parents are not destined to taste the fruit of thy labour"
That was what Guru Dasami said the moment I
walked into his temple, a small hall with red linen
used to design the four walls of the hall, the stench of
incense filled the air as I was told by his guard to
take my shoes off.
When I saw Guru Dasami I almost urinated in my
pants, a short fair man with scary looking face, his
tongue rolled out each time he opened his mouth to
talk.
"But master, my mum is alive! Are you trying to say with
her
out of the way I can be very wealthy before one week" , I
asked.
"What are you scared of? You have killed your father so
why
are you scared of killing your mother?" .
He sent a spasm of shock down my spine as I stared
at him in awe, he then looked at me for while and then
continued,
"Get her here as soon as you can, we will sacrifice her to
the
gods and then after 3 days use her blood to bath you and
that
would draw the future nearer", he said.
At the middle of a cross road again, here I was
confused on the right direction to take, I thought
about the sweet smell of Tina's skin, the way she
cuddles me in bed when making love to her, nothing
on earth could replace that feeling so I made up my
mind to finish what I had started already, I would
give mama a befitting burial, something she would
never have gotten if I let live in the certain doom that
bemused us.
"See my pikin! I tell dem say you be child of destiny" mama
said.
As she saw me from afar walking down the street
towards her direction, she hugged me as she signalled
that I sit beside her as she blew the chaff of the
groundnut she had on a huge tray, she did that for a
while and then dropped it on the table where her
goods were on display and then struggled to stand
up, groaning in pain as she stood and then looked me
before saying,
"My pikin follow me!"
We both walked into our room without saying a word
and then I joined her, she sat on the wooden chair
which had foam on it and made it fluffy to sit on but
over the years the live-in rats had succeeded in
chewing almost all the foam and only the skeletal
structure of the chair was left, she shook her head as
she spoke,
"My pikin since you comot after your papa death, three
different Pastors don come here and all of dey talk the
same
thing"
"Wetin be the same thing all of them dey talk?" I chipped in.
Raising her hands up as she replied,
"Dem say na you kpai your papa wey be my husband!"
"God forbid!" , I yelled and continued " mama you sef how
you go dey believe all these fake Pastors?"
"Your papa people say make I tell dem wen you come so
dat
you go follow dem go swear juju"
That was ticking doomsday if it comes to pass, I tried
to download play the precarious situation as I tried
so hard to change the topic but mama was hell bent
on me proving my innocence, so to calm the situation
down I lied,
"Okay mama tomorrow tell dem make dem come carry me
go
juju" I said.
That seemed to ventilate the situation as she was
quick in changing the topic;
"Wetin you go chop? " She asked
I had no appetite but I needed to put up a good act
before she becomes suspicious of my movements, we
ate together that evening and then shared a bottle of
soft drink from the shop and then she took her
medications, I laid on the couch waiting for the right
time as she sat beside me discussing until she began to
nod her head as she was being swayed by sleep, it
was then I knew the drug was beginning to take
effect. I had swapped her high blood pressure drugs
with a very power sleeping tablet. When she finally
dozed off, I walked to where she was sleeping, scared
at first of the efficacy of the drug as I shook her in
pretence saying,
"Mama go sleep inside" .
And she laid there motionless, I took water from the
table and poured on her and yet she made not even a
single movement, that was when I called the driver I
had arranged who helped me in carrying mama's
lifeless body at the depth of the night and then
towards Guru Dasami temple.
Guru kept smiling as he looked me and made huge
promises,
"You will reign more than anybody in your generation, drop
her body here"
Pointing at a triangle drawn on the floor, my hands
shaking as I dropped the lifeless body of mama,
praying that I was taking the right decision and not
regret later as he escorted me out of the temple, my
feet was washed with what seemed like blood by his
servant before Guru Dasami came out again and gave
me instructions,
"Go to your house, empty a room for that where the
lifeless
body of your mother would be kept and she would vomit
currencies of different countries for you, come back in two
days time for her body" he said.
With a pat on my shoulder I left his temple a happy
man, for on the third day was the day the love of my
life, the woman whom I have sacrificed all for would
return, with the ritual in progress I was confident
that I would be able to buy a house and different
choice cars before Tina stepped her foot on Nigerian
soil.
I could virtually eat or sleep as I counted each hour
as it passed by, waiting on the said day so that I
could go claim my riches. I had emptied mama's
room preparing it for my imaginary pandora's box.
Neighbours who cared to ask about the whereabouts
of my mother, I bluffed each of them or gave them a
flimsy excuse because in 48hours I was going to leave
the slum for good. The day finally came when I was
to go carry mama's body back home and then begin
to reap the benefit of my labour, the motorcyclist who
carried me to junction leading towards Guru Dasami's
temple kept asking me strange questions as I boarded
his bike,
"Oga you be SSS?" He asked.
Puzzled at such question I decided to query him,
"I resemble SSS?".
He was quickly in replying me as he apologized,
"Oga no vex! As you shave your bear-bear na why I say
make I
ask you" .
I paid him his money as I came down from his bike,
facing the path that leads to Duru Dasami's temple I
saw a large crowd that gather, my heart skipped as I
walked faster to join the crowd to see what was
happening, as I got closer all I could hear from the
crowd were shouts of,
"Jesus! Jesus!".
Pushing through the crowd until I got close to the
entrance of the temple, there I saw Guru Dasami
handcuffed and his legs chained to a pole, as he was
covered in blood, his eyes swollen from the beating
he must have gotten from the crowd that gathered.
He couldn't even open his eyes, policemen walked
out from the temple carrying different body parts
and then displaying it for the public to see as shouts
rented the air, I could not believe my eyes what I saw
when next the policemen came out of the temple, one
carried the head of my mother in his hand as her
head had been sawed out of her body, her teeth
biting her tongue that came out of her mouth as her
eyes popped out, the crowd began to shout again in
agony as tears dropped down my cheek, I could not
believe that I had killed my parents all for the mad
rush of making money and yet that dream wasn't
achieved.
I scuffled through the crowd as I tried to hide my face
so that Guru Dasami would not recognise and then
walked away confused than ever the next line of
action again.
