MultiChoice has reacted to the trending news of their impending shut down by June 2019. According to reports, DSTV and GOtv, PayTv services offered by the South African company will be shutdown after its expiration by June, 2019.
Sources say the reason why the operational license issued four years ago will not be renewed is due to the fact that it’s not in line with the Digital Switch Over (DSO) White Paper.
However, in a recent development, MultiChoice has given their say on the issue, indicating that their company complies with the regulatory requirements and applicable laws on TV broadcasting. They added that the next renewal will be done by March 2019, as opposed to the trending rumor of their license expiring by June 2019.
Below is an excerpt from the report;
“GOtv is provided under a fully licenced and registered entity in Nigeria, and this license comes up for renewal in March 2019”
“As a law-abiding and committed Nigerian operator which has fulfilled (and continues to comply with) all regulatory requirements and applicable laws, it is not clear how or why this license would not be renewed, and as such the company will investigate further in the best interests of the many customers it serves in the market”
“MultiChoice remains committed to providing its customers with a wide variety of quality entertainment through the usual best standards.”
MultiChoice is a South African company launched in Nigeria in 1994. One of its services abbreviated DSTV (Digital Satellite Television) was launched in 1995, a year after its inception in Nigeria.
GOtv was launched in Nigeria in 2011 and offers cheaper subscription cost compared to DSTV.
They are the two most popular PayTv networks in Nigeria.
