Finally, The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has agreed to suspend their strike in consideration of the federal government’s offer.
This is a welcoming news and it’s comimg just after 12 hours, 30 minutes of a closed door meeting held between ASUU and a government delegation in Abuja which started 1:38pm on Thursday, September 7 and ended 2:15 a.m. on Friday, September 8.
Several other educational associations such as the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities (NASU) and the National Association of Academic Technologists, (NAAT), have been earlier reported to have joined the strike in the wake of today.
According to Premium Times, ASUU accepted the proposal from the government in promise of presenting it to its members and get back to the government in a week.
ASUU’s national president, Biodun Ogunyemi, enlightened journalists after the meeting that the union will come back in a week time to ascertain final decisions.
Excerpts from his words are : “Now we have some concrete proposal that we will take back to our members for consideration."
The minister of education, Adamu Adamu, informed the media that the demands of ASUU’s have been met and the union has promised it will get back to the government in a week time after meeting with its members.
