There are certain food that people generally refrigerate, but refrigerating these food does them, and you more harm than good. A lot of us make several of these common mistakes, which of them are you guilty of? These are just 10 of the foods common in Nigeria that you should never ever refrigerate.
1. Tomatoes
Refrigerating tomatoes not only causes hem to lose their flavor but also causes them to change texture. They lose freshness all together. The best way to keep your tomatoes is in a basket or a glass bowl on the kitchen counter. notavailable 2. Garlic
Garlic has the same problem with fridge that potatoes have. You should keep it in a cool and dark place instead of the fridge. In cold temperatures, garlic will start to sprout and it may become moldy too. notavailable

3. Potatoes Potatoes should be kept in a cool and dark place, not in a cold place! Cold temperatures turn the starch of potato into sugar more quickly than you think. It is better to put potatoes in paper and not plastic bags because potatoes can receive more air in paper bags, which will slow the deterioration process. notavailable 4. Ginger All the fridge does to your ginger is make it dry out, keep them in a basket and place them in airy locations in the kitchen instead. notavailable SOURCE:http://kokofeed.com/2015/01/13/10-common-nigerian-foods-you-should-never-refrigerate/

5. Onions The moisture in onions makes them soft and eventually moldy of you put them in the fridge. Instead, keep them in a dry, cool and dark place. However, keep potatoes and onions separate when placing them in that dark and cool place at your home. The reason for this is because when stored together- onions and potatoes deteriorate faster. notavailable Never Keep Onions And Potatoes Together! 6. Bread Yes, bread! the best way to keep a fresh loaf of bread fresh is to freeze it, not refrigerate it. the bread crust dies out and becomes crusty in the fridge. When you are ready to eat it, simply take it out of the freezer, let it thaw and then microwave it. notavailable

7. Butter Infact, all oily foods, eg butter, margerine, olive oil, vegetable oils should not be kept in the fridge. In low temperatures oil and fat condenses and turns into a harder consistency, instead, leave your butter and oils in a cool, dark place. notavailable 8. Honey You should not keep honey in the fridge because- there is no need to if you keep it tightly sealed. This way it will be good forever. On the other hand, if you keep honey in refrigerator it may crystallize notavailable

9. Citrus Lemons, oranges and limes should be stored at room temperatures and on your kitchen counter. Cold air can damage the quality of these fruits. Be sure not to keep them too closely outside the fridge, though. Keeping them to tight together can make them mold more quickly notavailable 10.Ketchup Don’t be surprised! Even when opened, ketchup can be kept in the pantry. Because it contains large amounts of vinegar and preservatives, it will not go off outside the fridge. And if you don’t believe, just think of the ketchup packets at fast food restaurants. notavailable
